"{Fry} is doing OK, he’s in good spirits. He’s upright, he’s alert,” Guardians manager Steven Vogt told reporters while announcing the injuries. The 29-year-old was hit squarely in the face by a Tarik Skubal fastball during the seventh inning of Tuesday’s win. The Guardians announced that Fry will not need surgery, but he’ll have a 6-8 week timeline for recovery; meaning his 2025 season has come to a close. He should be ready for the start of the 2026 campaign.

Fry will likely be held overnight at the Cleveland Clinic after being struck directly in the face by a 99 mph offering from Tigers ace Tarik Skubal while squaring to attempt a sacrifice bunt in the sixth inning of Tuesday’s contest. There should be an update on his status at some point in the coming days, but it certainly sounds like he’s going to miss some time.

Fry’s home run was his eighth of the year. He hit a solo shot off Martín Pérez in the fourth inning. Fry now has five hits and six RBI over his last six games. The 29-year-old DH is hitting just .176 with a .620 OPS and 23 RBI as he looks ahead to a healthy offseason and hopefully a more productive 2026.

Fry’s first inning blast would be all the scoring Cleveland needed as they blanked the Rockies in what was a de facto bullpen game. That was Fry’s fifth homer of the season in what’s been a trying season for him after a sensational first half and All-Star berth last year. He’s been pushed back into just a weak-side platoon role and only starts against left-handed pitchers while Kyle Manzardo – who replaced Fry as a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning – has taken the lion’s share of starts at designated hitter.

Fry started the scoring for the Guardians with an RBI single to drive in Angel Martinez in the first inning. The 29-year-old DH came up again in the fourth inning and cleared the bases with a three-run double to put the Guardians up 5-0. Fry has seen the vast majority of his at-bats since returning from injury against left-handed pitching. With just 10 plate appearances so far against right-handed pitching, he doesn’t offer much fantasy value.

Fry’s home run was his fourth of the year. The 29-year-old DH had a delayed start to his season as he was recovering from offseason elbow surgery. Fry’s catcher-eligibility will keep him fantasy relevant for the rest of this season, though his overall production leaves much to be desired at this point.

The 29-year-old slugger tagged right-hander Shawn Dubin for a 361-foot (99.4 mph EV) solo shot in the sixth inning that trimmed the Guardians’ deficit to two runs at 4-2. That would be the extent of the scoring in the game. Fry also singled, drew a walk and struck out in the contest, reaching base safely in three of his four plate appearances. He has picked up right where he left off during his breakout 2024 campaign, slashing .300/.417/.600 with a homer and two RBI in his first 12 plate appearances.

Fry will make his season debut on Saturday against the Angels after missing the opening two months of the year recovering from offseason elbow surgery. The 29-year-old backstop was a key component of Cleveland’s surprising ALCS run last season, belting a career-high 14 homers in 122 games. His catcher-eligibility made him a mixed-league relevant option for fantasy managers in deeper formats.
