Fulmer heads to Seattle as emergency organizational relief depth after being released earlier this week by the Royals. The well-traveled 32-year-old veteran made three relief appearances earlier this season between the Cubs and Red Sox.

Fulmer was brought up to the active roster on Monday and threw three shutout innings while allowing two hits and striking out one. With Shota Imanaga back from injury, the Cubs needed a roster spot and decided to move on from Fulmer. He’ll likely latch on with somebody else or look for another chance with the Cubs.

Fulmer gets the call to Chicago after signing a minor league contract back in late April. The 32-year-old righty made one relief appearance earlier this year for the Red Sox before being cut loose. He’ll likely operate in middle relief out of the Cubs’ bullpen.

Helman was just claimed off of waivers from the Cardinals on Wednesday, but he became a roster casualty once again as the Pirates needed to free up a spot on their 40-man for Nick Solak on Friday. Once again, he could attract some interest on waivers.

Fulmer is removed from the active and 40-man roster to make room for Hunter Dobbins. Fulmer, 32, will now hit the waiver wire, but there’s a good chance he’ll go unclaimed. He’ll then need to decide if he wants to report back to Triple-A, or elect free agency.

Fulmer hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2023 campaign, but he’s getting the call to augment Boston’s injury-depleted mix ahead of Sunday’s series finale in Chicago. The 32-year-old righty is unlikely to make a significant impact for fantasy purposes, especially with both Brayan Bello (shoulder) and Lucas Giolito (hamstring) close to making it back from the injured list.
