Fitts left last night’s game after feeling something in his forearm while throwing a pitch. The Red Sox will need to look elsewhere for a fifth starter this weekend and could turn to Kyle Harrison, who many thought would be the choice over Fitts on Monday.

Fitts will presumably continue undergoing further evaluation and testing to determine the severity of the issue. The 25-year-old righty left the contest with a trainer immediately after throwing one pitch at the outset of the sixth inning. There should be some additional clarity regarding his outlook in the near future, but it seems like a virtual lock that he’s headed for the injured list.

Fitts departed with a trainer after throwing just one pitch at the outset of the sixth inning. He was charged with three runs and struck out six over four innings in relief. We’re hesitant to rush to judgement, especially with injuries, but this certainly didn’t look good. Any sort of extended absence would be yet another hit to Boston’s pitching depth, which is really down to just Kyle Harrison and top prospect Payton Tolle.

The Red Sox will use Brennan Bernardino as the opener to face left-handed hitters Jackson Holliday and Gunnar Henderson, and possibly even a second inning against Colton Cowser and Samuel Basallo before bringing Fitts into the game. Fitts has been solid for the Red Sox as a rookie, but has allowed five runs on seven hits in four innings his third time through the order, so being in a bulk relief role might be best for him. He’s on the streaming radar in deeper formats for this one.

Fitts provides the Red Sox with some extra long relief depth heading into Thursday’s series opener against the Yankees. The 25-year-old righty has shown some flashes of fantasy potential this season, but he’s not a recommended option outside of extremely deep mixers.

It will not be Justin Slaten who takes the roster spot of Isaiah Campbell as expected, but instead it will be Fitts for that contest. The 25-year-old has pitched decently at times for Boston, but fantasy managers should probably look elsewhere for a streamer Thursday.

He also struck out five and walked two while registering a 24 percent whiff rate and 33 percent CSW. Fitts sported a bit of a new changeup in this one, coming in two mph slower but with two inches more drop and four inches more arm-side run. Deepening his arsenal might convince the Red Sox that they can use Fitts a third time through the order. He could be a better option for them than Walker Buehler.

Fitts has minor-league options left and the Red Sox desperately needed to bring up some additional bullpen depth in the wake of Monday’s rain-soaked marathon in Minnesota. The 25-year-old righty lasted just four innings in his latest outing and has struggled to work deep into games. He should return at some point in August, but the expectation here is that the Red Sox will add a veteran starter at the trade deadline to fill his spot.

The rookie walked three and struck out two on the day while registering a 24 percent whiff rate and 26 percent CSW. Despite the walks, Fitts was in the zone often during the day; he simply didn’t get many swings and misses outside of the zone on his breaking stuff, which is a larger issue he’ll need to address. Still, Fitts was at just 58 pitches through four innings, but Alex Cora decided to remove him from the game rather than let him face the Twins order a third time. Fitts is scheduled to face a depleted Astros lineup on Sunday, but the Red Sox may have traded for a starting pitcher by then.

Fitts struck out four and walked none, but he gave up homers to Max Kepler and Kyle Schwarber. Even a reasonably good outing from Fitts wouldn’t have done much for the Red Sox with the way they looked against Cristopher Sánchez tonight. Fitts figures to make another start Monday against the Twins, but if the Red Sox are serious about contending, there’s a good chance he’ll be supplanted by a trade deadline pickup after that.

Fitts will get first crack at taking the rotation spot that was previously occupied by Hunter Dobbins, with Dobbins now out for the year due a torn ACL. Fitts has shown flashes of being a competent fantasy option, but fantasy managers can likely find a better option for that Tuesday outing.

Fitts returns to the majors to bolster Boston’s bullpen this weekend after Hunter Dobbins suffered a torn ACL during Friday’s series opener against the Rays. The 25-year-old righty might end up pitching in relief initially, but should slot back into the Red Sox’ rotation mix coming out of the All-Star break.

This comes one day after Fitts beat the Rockies for his first major league victory. The Red Sox are planning on activating Hunter Dobbins this week, and they’ll probably have Tanner Houck back next week, so it may be a little bit before Fitts gets another chance.

A home start against the Rockies is as easy as it gets, but Fitts will definitely take the win after going 0-4 in spite of a 3.33 ERA in his first 11 career starts. The Red Sox had been 0-10 in those games until finally winning a Fitts start in the suspended game against the Reds last week, when rain brought things to a halt with Boston up 2-1 after three. Fitts allowed five hits, walked one and struck out six tonight. He should stay in the rotation for now and face the Rays on Sunday, but things are about to get complicated with Hunter Dobbins and Tanner Houck close to returning.

It’ll be picked up on Wednesday afternoon with the Red Sox holding a 2-1 lead. Boston starter Richard Fitts allowed one run over three frames at the outset of the contest while his Cincinnati counterpart Brady Singer was charged with two runs in his abbreviated outing.

He struck out six. Fitts was working on three scoreless frames before Jo Adell and Travis d’Arnaud homered consecutively to begin the fourth. Since he’s still building up after missing six weeks with a lat strain, Fitts was lifted from a tie game after four innings and 83 pitches. The Red Sox went on to lose from there to fall to 0-10 in Fitts’ starts since he debuted last September. It’s a pretty crazy record, given that Fitts has allowed zero runs four times (including the three-inning outing in which he was hurt in April) and more than three runs only twice. It’s unclear if Fitts will stick around, but if he does, he’ll probably face the Reds on Tuesday.

This isn’t a surprise, but the Red Sox were open to the possibility of using Fitts in relief after calling him up Sunday. Since he hasn’t been needed, he’ll get the nod in Hunter Dobbins’ place versus the Halos.

Fitts appears poised to take the ball on Wednesday against the Angels out in Los Angeles with Hunter Dobbins landing on the injured list with an elbow strain. The 25-year-old righty tossed five scoreless innings on Tuesday in his latest start for Triple-A Worcester. He offers some intrigue for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues.

Fitts was rushed back from his earlier rehab assignment after a pectoral injury because the Red Sox were without Walker Buehler and Tanner Houck at the time and weren’t comfortable with Hunter Dobbins pitching three times through a batting order. Unsurprisingly, rushing Fitts back didn’t go well, and he returned to Triple-A to essentially finish his rehab assignment. Fitts looks like he’s ready to rejoin the rotation, and with Walker Buehler having yet another poor start after returning from the IL, you have to wonder if Boston is willing to make a change.

The decision shifts fellow prospect Hunter Dobbins back into Boston’s rotation. Fitts will continue building up his pitch count in the minors in the wake of Monday’s disastrous outing against the Angels at Fenway Park when he was torched for six runs in his lone inning of work. The 25-year-old righty has pitched well this season overall, but the club clearly rushed him back too quickly from the injured list. He should return to the big leagues in a couple weeks once he’s had a chance to iron things out in Worcester.

Holy schnikes. Fitts coughed up a staggering three homers, including a gargantuan 454-foot blast to Mike Trout, and was lifted after just 39 pitches (24 strikes) in his second start back from the injured list. It’s a bit perplexing why the Red Sox didn’t give him a couple additional rehab starts, especially with Hunter Dobbins holding his own at the highest level. We’re optimistic on Fitts from a long-term perspective, but he’s simply not ready to help fantasy managers right now.

The Red Sox knew this would be a short outing; it really ought to have been his second minor league rehab start as he makes his way back from a strained pec. Fitts did a nice job, though, allowing just two hits, walking one and striking out two. Perhaps knowing that he’d be a shorter night, he showed great velocity, averaging 95.9 mph and topping out at 97.1 mph with his fastball. He had averaged 94.7 mph previously this season. It’s unclear if Fitts will get another start right away next week, but he seems like one of Boston’s top five options.

Fitts will take the ball for Tuesday’s game against the Brewers after missing just over six weeks recovering from a pectoral strain. The 25-year-old righty pitched to a solid 3.18 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 13/5 K/BB ratio across 17 innings (three starts) before hitting the shelf in early April. There’s some risk here in a hitter-friendly ballpark, especially since he won’t have an astronomical pitch count, but Fitts represents an interesting streaming option for fantasy managers in deeper formats.

It might depend on how the team fares today. If Garrett Crochet goes long, the Red Sox might just do a bullpen game Tuesday. If not and a few relievers have to work today, it’s more likely Fitts, who has missed six weeks with a pectoral strain, will be activated. Fitts threw 53 pitches over three scoreless innings in his first rehab start Thursday for Double-A Portland.

Fits landed on the injured list back on April 13 with a mild right pectoral strain, so it’s encouraging that he’s making serious progress just a couple weeks later. The 25-year-old should advance to facing hitters at some point in the near future, which puts him in line to kick off a minor league rehab assignment before the end of May. There isn’t a path to starts at the highest level at the moment, but he should be an option for Boston’s rotation at some point in June.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora refused to speculate on a potential timeline, but it’s seemingly a positive development that Fitts isn’t dealing with a high-grade strain. The 25-year-old hit the injured list this past weekend and is likely facing a multi-week absence, even in a best-case scenario. There should be some clarity here once he’s cleared to start a throwing program.

Not good. Fitts is headed back to Boston to undergo additional evaluation and testing to determine the severity of the injury after making an early exit from Saturday’s start against the White Sox with right shoulder pain. It’s an encouraging development that it’s not directly shoulder-related from a structural standpoint, but the 25-year-old righty could be facing an extended absence. The positive news for the Red Sox is that both Brayan Bello (shoulder) and Lucas Giolito (hamstring) are close to making it back to the rotation mix.

Fitts was in the midst of the strongest performance of his young career when he was forced to depart the contest with apparent shoulder discomfort. The 25-year-old struck out five and scattered three baserunners over five scoreless frames before leaving the contest at the outset of the sixth inning. Any sort of extended absence would put some additional strain on the Red Sox’ injury-depleted rotation. He’s headed back to Boston to undergo additional testing, including an MRI, to determine the severity of the issue. He’s obviously in serious jeopardy of missing his next scheduled start on Friday against the White Sox. There should be an update on his status in the coming days.
