Gimènez took Mariners starter Luis Castillo deep for a go-ahead homer in the third inning. The 27-year-old infielder has gone deep in back-to-back playoff games after managing just seven round-trippers in 101 regular-season contests. He put the finishing touches on Toronto’s victory with a two-run single up the middle against reliever Emerson Hancock in the eighth.

The 27-year-old infielder smacked a run-scoring single off of Luke Weaver in the seventh inning that extended the Jays’ lead to 3-1. He then came around to score on a two-run double off the bat of Nathan Lukes. Giménez added an RBI double in the eighth inning and scored on an RBI single by Lukes.

This will be the first time that Giménez has started a game at shortstop since 2002. With Bo Bichette out of action with his knee injury, the Blue Jays will give the 27-year-old a chance to show what he can do on the other side of the bag. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will get the start at second base and Ernie Clement will handle third with Addison Barger out of the lineup Friday against Baltimore.

His three balls in play were all pop flies with xBAs of .000, .010 and .010. His glove remains exceptional, and Statcast thinks he’s been pretty unlucky in batting .213/.290/.316, but this was another brutal offensive game from a guy who had a lot of them this year. He’s started 79 games and gone hitless in 36 of them.

Giménez’s homer was his first since coming off the IL two weeks ago and sixth in 74 games this season. He’s hit just .220/.306/.321 and he’s stuck at the bottom of the Jays lineup, but in such a strong offense, he’s a mixed-league option anyway. It helps a bunch that he’s 13-for-14 stealing bases.

The 26-year-old second baseman has been sidelined since early July due to a left ankle sprain. Prior to landing on the injured list, he was hitting .218/.300/.322 with five homers, 23 RBI and 10 stolen bases in his first 238 plate appearances. He’ll start at second base and bat ninth against Javier Assad and the Cubs on Tuesday evening in Toronto.

The Jays want Giménez to get about 20 at-bats in the minors as he returns from an ankle sprain, so he’ll probably be activated early next week.

He’ll be joined by George Springer (concussion) at some point later this week as the pair get ready to rejoin Toronto’s lineup for the stretch run. Giménez has been out since early July working his way back from a left ankle sprain. When he does return, it would seem likely that Giménez would bump Ernie Clement from playing time against right-handed pitching which would allow the Jays to keep Addison Barger at third base and allow Joey Loperfido and Nathan Lukes to continue to play.

He’s still in Toronto working out but it sounds like he could be ready to head out on a minor league rehab assignment soon. The slick-fielding 26-year-old second baseman has been shelved since early July due to a left ankle sprain.

The 26-year-old infielder has been doing treatment for his injured left ankle, but it sounds like this is going to end up being a long-term issue. As of now there’s still no clear timeline for a potential return to the Jays’ active roster.

The 26-year-old infielder landed on the injured list on Sunday after aggravating his left ankle injury during Friday’s game against the Angels. The Jays hope to have an estimate on his timeline after he’s re-evaluated next weekend, it sounds like it could be a while though. Davis Schneider seems to be the largest beneficiary in terms of playing time for the Jays’ while Giménez is sidelined.

Giménez winds up landing on the injured list after aggravating a left ankle issue during Friday’s contest against the Angels. Th 26-year-old second baseman figures to miss at least a couple weeks. It’ll be some combination of Leo Jiménez and Davis Schneider filling in at the keystone.

It’ll be Davis Schneider taking over at the keystone on Saturday after Giménez aggravated a lingering left ankle issue during Friday’s contest. The 26-year-old second baseman is slated to undergo an MRI this weekend, which should provide some much-needed clarity concerning the severity of the issue. It’s possible he’ll wind up requiring a trip to the injured list, but that’s not a lock at this juncture.

The Blue Jays want to get the imaging done to get a better idea of what they’re dealing with after Giménez aggravated an existing ankle injury on Friday while going first to third on a single off the bat of George Springer. Fantasy managers should be sure to check back prior to Saturday’s game to see if he’ll ultimately require a trip to the injured list.

Giménez aggravated the injury as he went from first to third on a single off the bat of George Springer. It looked like he was attempting to talk his way into staying in the game, but the decision was ultimately made to pull him. As of now it doesn’t sound like any additional testing is scheduled, so the 26-year-old infielder should still be considered day-to-day.

The homer off Max Fried was his first against a lefty this season. It was also a rare center field blast for a guy who typically has to pull the ball to get it over the fence. Gimenez, who came into the day right on the Mendoza Line (40-for-200 this season), is now batting .207/.293/.315.

Things have gotten bad enough for Giménez that he faked being hit by a pitch in the second inning today. Fortunately, it didn’t work. Giménez had a nice game Friday when the shoe was on the other foot for the Blue Jays, but he’s batting just .198/.281/.294 on the season.

The Jays had Bo Bichette DHing today and Ernie Clement playing short, so their options were limited after Guerrero exited. Giménez, who was primarily a shortstop in the minors, had played second base exclusively since starting 13 games at short for the Guardians in 2022. He finished today’s game against his old team 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

The 26-year-old second baseman gave the Blue Jays an early advantage in this one with a 387-foot (101.2 mph EV) three-run blast off of Miles Mikolas in the top half of the first inning. He also drove in a run with a two-out single off of Chris Roycroft in the ninth inning that made it a 9-6 ballgame. With his two-hit night, Giménez is now hitting .213/.287/.333 with four homers, 14 RBI and nine stolen bases in his first 42 games with the Blue Jays.

Ernie Clement did a fantastic job filling in for Giménez at second base, but he’ll return to third base now. As productive as he’s been lately, he’ll probably be the everyday guy there, leaving Addison Barger to shuffle between the outfield and DH. Jonathan Clase, who has been getting starts in left, figures to lose playing time.

Giménez did some more running prior to Tuesday’s contest against the Padres at the Rogers Centre, but he’s going to need a handful of minor league contests to get back up to speed again. The 26-year-old second baseman hit the injured list back on May 8 with a right quad strain.

The 26-year-old second baseman has been sidelined since May 8 due to a strained right quad. He has been increasing baseball activity in recent days though and running at full speed will be the last hurdle that he needs to clear before he’s able to return to game action. It’s unclear if he’ll require a minor league rehab assignment or not before returning to the Blue Jays.

The 26-year-old second baseman hadn’t played since leaving Wednesday’s game against the Angels due to tightness in his right quad. Since the team was playing it day-to-day, they’re hopeful that he won’t require much longer than a minimum stint on the injured list. Ernie Clement is starting in his place at second base once again on Friday night and should continue to see increased action there while Giménez is shelved.

Giménez appeared to suffer some sort of leg injury while legging out a bunt hit in the seventh inning. He managed to remain in the contest initially, but was replaced by Addison Barger at second base in the bottom of the frame. There should be an update on his status following the contest.

Giménez is slashing just .190/.272/.298 on the season and has been moved to ninth in the batting order. The Blue Jays just acquired him this offseason and are paying him a lot of money, so he’s going to remain in the lineup, but it’s been hard to hold onto him in shallow fantasy leagues.
