Gomber receives a fresh start in Chicago after being released by the Rockies back in late August after five lackluster seasons. The 31-year-old lefty struggled to a bloated 7.49 ERA across 57 2/3 innings over 12 starts earlier this season. He’ll presumably head to Triple-A Iowa to close out the final month as a bit of a reclamation project.

The outright waiver process is meant to be confidential, so the Rockies won’t be able to confirm or deny the report. The 31-year-old lefty, who was one of the main components of the ill-fated Nolan Arenado trade back in 2021, has struggled to a disastrous 7.49 ERA across 57 2/3 innings (12 starts) this season. He was lit up for seven runs over three innings on Tuesday in a loss to the Dodgers.

A walk and two doubles brought two runs home for the Dodgers in the first inning. Gomber then surrendered two more runs in the second on a pair of solo homers before allowing three more runs in to score in the third. That would do it for Gomber as he was replaced on the mound to start the fourth inning. The 31-year-old left-hander ends his day with a 7.49 ERA, 1.72 WHIP, and a 34/17 K/BB ratio across 57 2/3 innings. He’ll face the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Gomber struck out two and walked one, but allowed two home runs that accounted for three of the runs against him. The left-hander posted just an eight percent walk rate and 26 percent CSW and is not an option in fantasy leagues.

The 31-year-old southpaw issued three walks on the evening while striking out three. He allowed a bases-clearing double to Blaze Alexander in the first inning, then served up a solo homer to Alexander in the fourth inning and a two-run blast to Corbin Carroll in the fifth. Gomber got just two swings and misses on 92 pitches on the evening, posting a CSW of 27 percent. Still searching for his first victory of the season, he’ll bring a 6.52 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and a 30/14 K/BB ratio (49 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Roberts has been solid out of the bullpen in the minors for the Marlins, recording a 3.98 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and 44/22 K/BB ratio in 40 2/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season. The 27-year-old Roberts has led the Marlins organization with 122 appearances over the last 3 seasons with Double-A Pensacola & Triple-A Jacksonville, so he gives the Brewers solid organizational depth in the bullpen.

Gomber surrendered a leadoff home run to Liover Peguero in the first inning. He settled in for three scoreless frames before Peguero took him deep again in the fifth for a three-run shot. Gomber would finish out the inning and end his day after five with five strikeouts. The 31-year-old left-hander will carry a 6.18 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and a 27/11 K/BB ratio across 43 2/3 innings into a start against the Diamondbacks in Arizona on Friday.

Gomber walked three and struck out two while throwing 47 of his 78 pitches for strikes. He allowed two extra base hits, including a home run to Tyler O’Neill, and will take a 6.28 ERA into a start in Coors against the Pirates next week. We would still prefer to avoid using him in fantasy leagues.

Gomber was facing his former organization, and things went poorly. Again. He did hold St. Louis off the board through the first three innings, but things unraveled in the middle innings to push his ERA to 6.03 with an 0-4 record. He did strike out six with zero walks, but that’s small consolation. Gomber shouldn’t be started against the Orioles over the weekend.

Gomber struck out three and walked two, and needed 90 pitches to get 13 outs. He posted just a 10 percent whiff rate and 21 percent CSW and should not be trusted in fantasy leagues.

Gomber’s velocity has been down in five starts since returning from shoulder inflammation, but it was a little better tonight; he averaged 89.5 mph with his fastball, down from 90.5 mph last year. That helped him pick up five strikeouts and 11 missed swings. That might not sound like much, but he came into the night with a total of six strikeouts in 19 2/3 innings. He’ll take a 5.92 ERA into his next start against the Reds.

Gomber was fortunate to allow just the two runs as he gave up eight hits and only struck out one hitter, but he deserves credit for wiggling out of jams; even if they didn’t come from missing bats. He still has an ugly 5.49 ERA, but it it’s worth noting that he’s given up no more than two runs in three of his four starts. He’s still not a good streaming option for his scheduled start next week against Boston.

Gomber walked one and struck out one batter on the afternoon. It was a nice bounce-back effort from the 31-year-old southpaw after he was clobbered for nine runs on 12 hits over 4 2/3 innings his last time out. The lone tally against him in this one came on an RBI infield single off the bat of Mookie Betts in the third inning. Gomber got six whiffs on 77 pitches on the day, registering a CSW of 23 percent. He’ll look to further improve upon his 6.14 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 5/3 K/BB ratio (14 2/3 innings) when he does battle against the Astros on Wednesday.

Woof. Gomber also issued one walk on the night and didn’t strike out a batter. The Diamondbacks scratched out single runs in each of the first two innings against him then broke the game open with four runs in the fourth — including a three-run blast off the bat of Ketel Marte. After the Rockies scored six times to take the lead in the home half of the fourth, Gomber came back out and served up another pair of homers in the fifth inning to give it back. He got just four whiffs on 81 pitches on the night, posting an underwhelming CSW of 19 percent. He’ll bring a disappointing 8.38 ERA and 1.66 WHIP into a brutal matchup against the Dodgers at Coors Field on Thursday.

Gomber gave up two hits, walked one and struck out four. The 31-year-old left-hander was making his first start of the year after dealing with a shoulder injury. Gomber stymied the Braves’ offense for all five innings, but didn’t get the win as Colorado’s offensive explosion came after he left the game. Gomber still isn’t much of a fantasy asset as a finesse pitcher who makes half of his starts at Coors Field. He’ll face the Diamondbacks at home next weekend.

Gomber will make his season debut on Sunday against the Athletics after missing nearly three months at the outset of the year working his way back from shoulder inflammation. The 31-year-old lefty is not a recommended option for fantasy purposes after posting just 116 strikeouts over 165 innings (30 starts) last year for Colorado.

Gomber will make his season debut after missing the first two-plus months of the season with his shoulder issue. The 31-year-old has been effective at times, but his inability to miss bats while playing for a team that has shown an inability to be competent makes him a hard pass in fantasy leagues.

Gomber has been on the injured list since early March with a shoulder injury. He suffered a setback when he first tried to begin his rehab process in early April, and now will try and begin the process again. It will likely be early July before he becomes an option for the Rockies.
