If this had been a do-or-die game, we imagine Gilbert would have been out after the second, when he allowed one earned and one unearned run. As is, he stayed in to give up two runs with his velocity down significantly in the third. His velocity bounced back in a scoreless fourth, but he was pulled after giving up a homer to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to start the fifth. Even accounting for the fact that the Mariners only needed to win one game in two days, leaving Gilbert into start the fifth seems like malpractice on Dan Wilson’s behalf. Squeezing those extra innings out of Gilbert might help the Mariners in Game 7, but it certainly hurt the cause tonight.

No surprise here. Gilbert gets the ball with a chance to send the Mariners to the World Series for the first time in their 49-year history to face the defending champion Dodgers. The 28-year-old allowed three runs and was lifted after just 58 pitches on Monday in Game 2 of the best-of-seven series. He’ll take the ball on Sunday evening opposite Blue Jays rookie phenom Trey Yesavage at the Rogers Centre for the biggest start of his career.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson opted to go to his bullpen after Gilbert needed 58 pitches (39 strikes) to navigate three frames just a couple days after throwing two scoreless frames during Seattle’s ALDS-clinching Game 5 marathon win. The decision paid off as the bullpen held Toronto scoreless for the remainder of the contest and the offense came through with plenty of run support. The 28-year-old ace didn’t get any help from his defense at the outset of the abbreviated outing as a throwing error contributed to a pair of runs crossing the plate in the opening frame. He gave up an additional run-scoring hit to Nathan Lukes in the ensuing frame. Fortunately, he received a touchdown worth of run support from his offense courtesy of homers by Julio Rodríguez and Jorge Polanco to erase his early struggles.

Gilbert started more recently than Luis Castillo in the ALDS and threw more than twice as many pitches as Castillo in relief in Game 5 (34 to 15), but such is the Mariners’ desire to pitch Castillo at home than they’re going to bypass him for now. He’ll presumably start Game 3.

Gilbert’s second career postseason start was a great one, as he went without a walk and generated 16 misses on 40 swings in 85 pitches. He’s just the second Mariners pitcher ever to finish with at least seven strikeouts and allow no more than one run allowed in a postseason game. The other was Freddy Garcia, who fanned eight in 6 2/3 scoreless innings against the Yankees in the 2000 ALCS.

Gilbert will take the ball in what could be a series-turning matchup after Seattle dropped the opening contest of the best-of-five round and are staring at Tigers ace Tarik Skubal on Sunday evening. The 28-year-old fantasy ace steps into a more prominent role with Bryan Woo (pectoral) out until at least the ALCS, if not longer. It’ll likely be Bryce Miller taking the ball in Game 4, if the Mariners manage to get there.

Gilbert was pulled with a 3-2 lead after 75 pitches, as the Mariners apparently wanted him fresh for the ALDS. They went on to lose afterwards, so Gilbert finishes up 6-6 with a 3.44 ERA and a 173/31 K/BB in 131 innings after overcoming a flexor strain. He’ll be pitching in the postseason for the first time this year at age 28.

Gilbert struck out four batters on the night while issuing one free pass. The only blemish on his day came on a solo shot off the bat of Zach Cole in the third inning. The 28-year-old hurler got 12 whiffs on 91 pitches on the evening — six on his splitter — while posting a CSW of 27 percent. He’s now 6-6 on the season with a 3.43 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 168/30 K/BB ratio over 126 innings through his first 24 starts on the season. He’ll make his final regular season start on Saturday against the Dodgers.

Gilbert struck out five and walked one in improving to 5-6 with a 3.53 ERA. His splitter velocity was rather oddly down more than two mph tonight, but it worked for him; he threw it 24 times and got seven whiffs. He’s due to face the Astros on Sunday.

Gilbert gave up a homer to Iván Herrera in the first and then loaded the bases with no outs before pitching his way out of it in the second. He was already up to 49 pitches at that point, ensuring that it wouldn’t be a long night for him, and he was lifted after plunking Willson Contreras with two outs in the fifth. Although it was all kind of a mess, his ERA went down a tad, and the Mariners wound up winning in 13 innings. Gilbert, who is sporting a 34% strikeout rate, will get the Royals next week.

Gilbert gave up five hits, walked one and struck out seven. The 28-year-old right-hander has allowed just one run in two of his last three starts. Gilbert has a 3.61 ERA and 151/27 K/BB ratio in 109 2/3 innings this year. He’s lined up to face the Cardinals at home next week.

Gilbert was solid, but not good enough to overcome the Mariners giving him zero runs of support before exiting. The 28-year-old gave up an RBI single to Bo Naylor in the fourth and a two-run shot to Kyle Manzardo in the sixth. It pales in comparison to his dominance Sunday against the Athletics where he struck out 13, but you can pitch much worse than Gilbert did Saturday. He’ll get Atlanta on the road Friday.

Gilbert allowed just three hits and one walk in the ballgame. The only blemish on his day came on a solo home run off the bat of Jacob Wilson in the second inning. Aside from that, he was absolutely brilliant. The 28-year-old right-hander generated a whopping 25 swings and misses on 93 pitches in the ballgame — 10 on his slider — while registering an absurd CSW of 42 percent. He’ll look to keep the good times rolling as he brings a 3.69 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 138/24 K/BB ratio (97 2/3 innings) into Saturday’s showdown against the Guardians in Cleveland.

Gilbert’s unexpected implosion was the shortest outing of his career that wasn’t impacted by inclement weather. He surrendered a staggering nine hits, including second-inning homers to Trea Turner and J.T. Realmuto, which accounted for half of the damage against him in a calamitous frame. The -year-old fantasy ace will attempt to put the rare meltdown, which caused his full-season ERA to jump from 3.31 to 3.83 in the process, in the past when he faces the division-rival Athletics on Sunday.

Gilbert blanked the Orioles without much trouble over his first six innings, but he left a pitch down the middle against Ryan Mountcastle in the seventh, and Mountcastle blasted a game-tying solo homer. He allowed another run after he exited on a terrible defensive play from Josh Naylor and Dylan Moore. A frustrating no-decision, but it’s nice to see Gilbert effective — as per usual — and get into the seventh inning; something he’s struggled to do for most of 2025. He’ll take on the Phillies next week.

The 28-year-old right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the day while issuing three free passes. The lone tally against him came on a solo blast off the bat of Michael A. Taylor in his final inning of work. He exited with a 2-1 lead and in line for a victory, but the Mariners’ bullpen couldn’t hang on for him. Gilbert got 16 swings and misses on 94 pitches on the afternoon — nine of those on his fastball — while registering a CSW of 24 percent. He’ll look to keep the good times rolling as he carries a 3.35 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and a 118/21 K/BB ratio (83 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Orioles in Baltimore.

Gilbert was excellent for five of his six innings. Unfortunately, he did allow a three-spot in the third, and the 28-year-old has struggled to avoid the big frame in 2025. Still, it’s a quality start for Gilbert and a reminder that he’s as capable as any starter in baseball. He should be able to put up some quality numbers against the White Sox on Thursday.

The 28-year-old right-hander punched out seven batters on the day while issuing three free passes. He retired the first 11 hitters that he faced in order and made it through four innings without giving up a run. The Angels broke through for four runs in the fifth though, capped off by a two-run blast from Mike Trout. Gilbert got 11 swings and misses on 88 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he brings a 3.36 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 105/18 K/BB ratio (72 1/3 innings) into Friday’s matchup against the Rangers.

Gilbert is certainly coming around over his last two starts. After giving up zero earned runs his last time out, he held the Brewers scoreless into the seventh inning on Tuesday. He allowed just two hits on the day with walking no batters and striking out 10 on 15 swinging-strikes. The 28-year-old right-hander will take a 3.07 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and a 98/15 K/BB ratio over 67 1/3 innings into a start against the Angels in Anaheim on Sunday.

Gilbert gave up six hits, walked two and struck out nine. He’s struck out at least seven batters in three of his last four starts. Both of Gilbert’s runs were unearned thanks to a throwing error by Luke Raley in the first inning. Gilbert should’ve been out of the inning before Dillon Dingler’s two-run double. He’ll take a 3.54 ERA and 88/15 K/BB ratio in 61 innings into the All-Star break.

Gilbert pitched four scoreless innings prior to a 35-minute rain delay. After coming back out, he allowed one run in the fifth on two singles and a walk. The sixth, unfortunately, started single, single, homer, walk, double, though Gilbert did get an out in there after Jazz Chisholm Jr. was caught stealing following the walk. Casey Legumina took over and immediately gave up a two-run homer to produce a fifth run against Gilbert. It’s easy to say things would have gone much differently if not for the delay, but there’s no way of knowing for sure. Gilbert will face the Tigers next.

Gilbert gave up a run in the first inning, and while he kept Kansas City off the board, the Royals made him work. He needed 95 pitches to get through the outing, as he struck out seven but also walked three. Gilbert hasn’t been able to get deep often in 2025, but the results when he’s been on the mound have been solid. His final start of the second half will likely come against the Yankees next week.

Gilbert struck out seven and allowed one walk. He gave up a homer to Corey Seager in the first, and then bounced back nicely over the next three innings. Unfortunately, some soft contact found holes in the fifth, and he was bleeped and blooped for a three-run outing. There was more good than bad from Gilbert in this one, but the result is disappointing. He’s now allowed eight runs over his last 10 1/3 innings, and he’ll hope to see better results while still missing bats against the Royals on Wednesday.

Gilbert gave up eight hits, walked none and struck out six. The 28-year-old right-hander was making just his second start since coming off the injured list with an elbow injury. Gilbert picked up just his second win in eight starts this year. He was able to throw 90 pitches, an increase of just six pitches from the 84 he threw in his last start against the Red Sox. The 28-year-old has a 3.12 ERA on the year and will look to continue building his pitch count up as he faces the Rangers on the road next weekend.

Gilbert gave up a solo homer to Roman Anthony in the first inning — Anthony’s first in the majors — and another run scored on a fielder’s choice. Outside of that, it was a dominant return from the injured list for Gilbert; one where he initiated a whopping 21 swings-and-misses over just 84 pitches. Gilbert is one of the best pitchers in the sport, and he’ll look to build on this impressive outing when he squares off with the Cubs on Sunday in Chicago.

Gilbert returns from the first-ever injured list stint of his career to take the ball for Monday’s series opener against a new-look Red Sox lineup without slugger Rafael Devers. The 28-year-old fantasy ace wound up missing just over seven weeks with a flexor strain in his right elbow. He shouldn’t have any significant restrictions from a workload or pitch count standpoint after throwing 72 pitches last week in his final rehab outing for Triple-A Tacoma.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson made it official that Gilbert will return to take the ball for Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox at T-Mobile Park. The 28-year-old righty struck out six over five shutout innings on Tuesday in his final minor league rehab outing for Triple-A Tacoma. He’s been on the shelf since late April recovering from a flexor strain in his right elbow.

Gilbert authored a dominant performance in his latest rehab outing, allowing just two baserunners and needing only 72 pitches (43 strikes) to navigate five shutout frames. The 28-year-old fantasy ace averaged an encouraging 95.5 mph on his fastball and was able to sustain his velocity throughout his third rehab tune-up. There won’t be official confirmation from the Mariners until later this week, but Gilbert appears ready to rejoin Seattle’s rotation either this weekend or early next week.

The biggest takeaway here for fantasy managers is that Gilbert won’t be returning to Seattle’s rotation next week. There isn’t an exact date for his third rehab outing yet, but it figures to take place on Tuesday at one of the club’s minor league affiliates. The 28-year-old fantasy ace threw 60 pitches on Wednesday in his latest rehab start, and dealt with some diminished velocity over the course of that outing, which is presumably why he’s being given another tune-up before returning to Seattle.

Gilbert notched a pair of strikeouts and threw 60 pitches (38 strikes) in his second rehab outing. It’s theoretically possible the 28-year-old fantasy ace will rejoin Seattle’s rotation early next week, but it’s worth noting that Gilbert’s final fastball of the game clocked in at 93.7 mph after being up to 96.8 in the 1st inning. We’re assuming he’ll get at least one additional tune-up outing to continue further building up his stamina and pitch count. He’s been out since late April, recovering from a flexor strain in his right elbow.
