Garcia blew out his elbow for a second time in just his second start back from Tommy John surgery. He’ll miss all of 2026 and then be eligible for free agency after the season, so unless he and the Astros opt to do a modest two-year deal, he seems destined to be non-tendered.

It’s unclear what the 38-year-old hurler is dealing with, but he’ll miss the final two games of the regular season. He finishes the year with a 3.42 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a 48/26 K/BB ratio over 55 1/3 innings between the Dodgers, Nationals and Angels. Sammy Peralta was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move on Saturday.

Garcia is scheduled to undergo a major elbow procedure, likely another full Tommy John reconstructive surgery, at some point in the near future, which will keep him out until at least the 2027 campaign. It’s his second major arm surgery in the past two years and it’s completely fair to wonder if he’ll ever make it back to the big leagues.

With Kenley Jansen not traveling with the team over the weekend, it was up to Garcia to close it out with a three-run lead in the ninth inning. After retiring Tyler Freeman on a ground ball to start the inning, he made things awfully interesting by loading the bases on a pair of singles and a walk. He then got Jordan Beck to ground into a game-ending double play to put it in the win column for the Halos. On the season, the 38-year-old hurler now boasts a 3.48 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and a 48/25 K/BB ratio over 54 1/3 innings while recording two wins and a pair of saves.

Garcia landed on the 15-day injured list earlier in the week after experiencing renewed elbow discomfort. He wasn’t going to return this season so the Astros opted to put his spot on the 40-man roster to use, allowing them to promote Zach Cole from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday night. Still no word on the extent of Garcia’s re-injury and how much time he may miss.

Garcia will undergo further testing after leaving Tuesday’s outing, his second start back from Tommy John surgery. A clearer update should come in the next few days, but his season is over and the bigger concern is whether he’s facing another long absence — a tough development that highlights how unpredictable the road back from major surgery can be.

Not good. Garcia threw an 88-mph fastball in the second inning and immediately signaled for a trainer while gesturing to his surgically-repaired right arm. The 28-year-old righty was making just his second start back from Tommy John surgery. He dealt with diminished velocity throughout the early stages of this outing, averaging just 90 mph on his fastball. There should be an additional update on his status at some point in the coming days once he undergoes some additional imaging.

Garcia had his scheduled start over the weekend pushed back for some extra rest with ace Framber Valdez taking the ball on Sunday against the Rangers. The 28-year-old surrendered three runs over six innings with six strikeouts last Monday in his season debut against the Angels.

According to a team statement, Garcia is healthy but will likely have his next start pushed to Tuesday’s series opener against the Blue Jays, though that hasn’t been officially confirmed. The Astros have decided to hand the ball to ace Framber Valdez for Sunday’s series finale against the division-rival Rangers. The 28-year-old gave up three runs over six innings with six strikeouts last Monday in his season debut against the Angels. Fantasy managers should expect Houston to put a governor on his workload over the final three weeks as he returns from Tommy John surgery.

Garcia struck out six and didn’t walk a single batter while posting a 20 percent whiff rate and 25 percent CSW. All three of his runs came on two home runs in the fourth inning. The 28-year-old’s velocity was down all across the board, and he struggled to miss bats with anything apart from his cutter. However, it was still a nice debut for him after missing two years while coming back from Tommy John surgery. He’s a risky stream over the weekend due to his lengthy absence, but could be worth the risk in deeper leagues against a depleted Rangers lineup.

The 28-year-old right-hander has completed his long road back from Tommy John surgery and will make his highly-anticipated 2025 season debut on Monday against the Angels. Garcia registered a 3.30 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 38/7 K/BB ratio across 30 innings over nine minor league rehab appearances (eight starts). He looked sharp enough on his rehab stint that fantasy managers should be willing to gamble on Garcia immediately upon his return on Monday.

We’re not totally sure why Brown couldn’t confirm the exact timing of the move, but the Astros haven’t announced a starter for Monday’s series opener against the Angels, which seems like the logical landing spot for Garcia to make his season debut. The 28-year-old righty has made it back from last year’s Tommy John surgery and should offer some fantasy-relevance over the final month, especially in deeper mixed leagues.

Garcia had Tommy John surgery on May 19, 2023, so he is now 28 months into his rehab. During his rehab process of the last couple of years, he has had to push back bullpens and live batting practice sessions due to elbow discomfort. Garcia then “consulted with doctors about shortening his arm slot,” which he and the Astros believed could have been contributing to his setbacks. In his last rehab start on Tuesday, Garcia struck out five batters in six innings which allowing just one run for Triple-A Sugar Land. However, his fastball averaged just 91.7 mph, which is more than two mph below where he sat in his last full season in 2021. The Astros could activate the 28-year-old this weekend or next week for a start, but it’s unclear just what level of production we can expect.

García filled in for the injured Kenley Jansen after Reid Detmers worked a scoreless eighth. It’s his 16th career save in 592 appearances over 13 big-league seasons. Four of those came with the Angels last year before he was traded to the Red Sox. He’s allowed one run in eight innings since he rejoined the Halos after being acquired from the Nationals at the deadline.

Garcia struck out six and walked one while throwing 52 of his 77 pitches for strikes. He averaged 91.7 mph on his four-seam fastball, which is down over one mph from where he was back in 2023. However, he’s still getting plenty of whiffs on his cutter and sweeper, and despite allowing six hits, the average exit velocity on balls in play off of Garcia was just 85.3 mph on Wednesday. Given that he’s already up near 80 pitches, the Astros could decide to activate him next week, which would likely remove Jason Alexander from the rotation.

Garcia allowed three hits and struck out seven while throwing 37 of his 59 pitches for strikes. He was sitting just 91 mph on his four-seam fastball, which is down from where he was previously, but he’s still working his way back from Tommy John surgery. He likely needs another start or two before rejoining the Astros rotation.

García pitched well after signing with the Nationals with 0.90 ERA over 10 appearances with Washington. The 38-year-old will give the Angels bullpen a boost in the mid-to-late innings for the remainder of 2025.

Garcia also struck out four and threw 27 pitches in his two innings of work. This was a nice step in Garcia’s return from Tommy John surgery. He will likely try to push to three innings in his next start, which should come at a higher level in the minor league organization. At this rate, assuming he has no setbacks, Garcia could return to the Astros rotation, or perhaps piggyback with a starter like Colton Gordon or Brandon Walter, by the end of July.

Garcia was up to 25 pitches in his last bullpen session, so his first rehab appearance may be two innings at most. After this start, he could move up to Double-A or Triple-A to continue his rehab with a return in early August looking more likely.

Garcia was up to 25 pitches in this session, mixing in both fastballs and breaking balls. There is no word yet on what the next step is, but he could begin a rehab assignment and start at two innings before continuing to ramp up. At this point, we would expect an August return to be most likely for Garcia, and the Astros would certainly welcome him back, even if it’s in a piggyback role as they ease him into MLB innings.

García made Los Angeles’ season-opening bullpen but has struggled to a lackluster 5.27 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 24/16 K/BB ratio across 27 1/3 innings (28 appearances) this season in his Dodgers debut. The 38-year-old veteran reliever figures to pass through waivers unclaimed, but should be able to latch on somewhere else as emergency organizational depth.

Garcia continues to make solid progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The Astros are hopeful that the 28-year-old hurler will be able to return in late July or early August, which would provide the club’s starting rotation with a major boost over the final two months of the regular season.

The 38-year-old hurler has made 26 appearances out of the Dodgers’ bullpen this season, registering a 4.50 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and a 23/15 K/BB ratio across 26 innings of work. No word yet on how long the Dodgers expect him to be sidelined for. Noah Davis was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move prior to Sunday night’s battle against the Yankees.

Garcia had surgery early last season but had a setback in his rehab earlier in the spring when there was inflammation in his elbow. The Astros have recently started his throwing program back up and are hopeful he can provide some help for their beleaguered rotation in the final months of the season. He’s not a recommended stash for fantasy managers.

Gil resumed a throwing program back in late April and will progress to throwing off a mound for the first time since being shut down back in February with a high-grade lat strain. The 26-year-old figures to rejoin New York’s rotation at some point in late June or early July after getting a handful of minor league rehab starts under his belt.

It’s going to be several weeks of building up arm strength and stamina in bullpen sessions before Gil is ready for a minor league rehab assignment. The 26-year-old reigning AL Rookie of the Year is working his way back from a high-grade lat strain that he suffered back in spring training. He’s not expected to be an option for New York’s rotation again until at least some point in June.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Gil’s recovery from a high-grade lat strain is progressing as expected based on his latest MRI, and this isn’t a setback. However, the reigning AL Rookie of the Year won’t be medically cleared until later next week. It’s not a significant delay as Gil won’t be back until late May or early June, even in a best-case scenario. It’s looking more like some point in June following this latest update.
