Gore struck out seven, but this was a mediocre, inefficient outing in which he needed 106 pitches to get his 15 outs. Still, at least now that he’s working in front of a quality defense and throwing to a solid catcher, his weaker outings look more like this instead of the three-inning, six-run affairs during his Nationals career. Gore will make his next start in Detroit.

Gore had been excellent in his previous bouts with the Mariners as both a Ranger and a National, but this one was ugly from the get. He allowed a solo homer to Rob Refsnyder to begin the game, and gave up two more homers to Randy Arozarena and J.P. Crawford; both of those with runners on. He did strike out five, but it was clear Gore just didn’t have his best stuff in this contest. He’ll try and bounce back and lower his 4.15 ERA versus the Athletics on Saturday.

Gore worked two scoreless innings in Sacramento, then surrendered a pair of runs in the third on a double, two walks, and a bases-loaded single, all with two outs. He walked two more in the fourth, then gave up a hit and a walk in the fifth before leaving with two outs at 94 pitches, walking six in total after walking five across his first three starts. The 27-year-old left-hander will take a 3.00 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and a 30/11 K/BB ratio across 21 innings into a start against the Mariners in Seattle on Sunday.

Gore has 25 strikeouts in 16 1/3 innings to start the year. When the Mariners were able to make contact against him today, they hit the ball pretty hard, with four of their six balls in play exceeding 104 mph off the bat. Still, it resulted in just one hit, a line drive single from Mitch Garver. That and a Cole Young single in the ninth were the Mariners’ only hits of the day. Gore is 2-0 with a 2.76 ERA. He’s due to pitch in Sacramento against the A’s next time out.

Gore gave up two homers today after allowing none in five spring outings and his first start against the Phillies last week. We still like how he’s throwing to start the year, especially with the 16 strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings. He’ll take on Seattle next.

After Gore retired 15 of 17 batters to begin the game, the sixth opened single, walk, single to bring up Bryce Harper with the bases loaded and none out. Gore actually struck out Harper, but he then hit Alec Bohn was a pitch and was lifted. Cole Winn replaced him and allowed only one of the three runners to score on a sac fly before retiring Bryson Stott to end the threat. Gore wound up with the win in his Rangers debut. He got off to a very shaky start this spring, but he turned things around in the second half of March and he was obviously effective today in striking out seven. He’ll next pitch at home against the Reds.

Gore scattered three hits and threw 51 pitches (38 strikes) in his final spring tune-up. The 27-year-old lefty will take the ball on Sunday against the Phillies, a familiar foe from his Nationals tenure, in his Rangers debut.

Gore didn’t give up much hard contact tonight, but the 3/3 K/BB wasn’t great. He actually had a 3/3 K/BB in 6 1/3 innings coming into the game, so no help there. Still, there wouldn’t seem to be much reason to be concerned.

Gore also issued three walks on the night while recording a pair of strikeouts. After the Rangers scored four runs in the top half of the first inning, Gore gave it back and then some in the home half as the Royals started with three straight hits and then Kyle Isbel was plunked to force in a run. Brandon Drury then delivered an RBI single, another run scored on a wild pitch and Josh Rojas smacked a two-run double. Gore was then lifted, and Rojas scored against the bullpen. He returned to work a scoreless second inning, but things got dicey again in the third as the Royals loaded the bases with no outs before Jonathan India bounced into a double play, ending Gore’s day. He’ll see if he can pick up the pieces and get back on track his next time out.

The 27-year-old southpaw struck out one batter on the afternoon and didn’t allow a base on balls. Gore also took a comebacker off of his shin in the second inning of this one but was able to shrug it off and remain in the ballgame. He threw 27 of his 38 pitches for strikes, generating six whiffs and posting a CSW of 34 percent. He averaged 95.5 mph on his fastball (+0.2 mph) and topped out at 97 mph. He should be a steady and reliable option for both the Rangers and fantasy managers in 2026.

It was Gore’s first start wearing a Rangers’ uniform, and fortunately, it’s an exhibition battle. The southpaw gave up a pair of run-scoring singles in the second inning before exiting. Gore’s fantasy value certainly ticked up after the deal from Washington this winter, and while he’s not likely to be an ace, there’s a good chance he’s a solid fantasy option in 2026.

Gore’s career 4.19 ERA went mostly unchanged last season, but he did seem to take a step forward with his 27.2% strikeout rate while being held back by one of the game’s worst defenses and, in particular, one of its worst catching situations. Things will get quite a bit better in Texas, which offers the additional perk of boasting one of the game’s toughest ballparks for right-handed hitters to homer in the last two years. If it holds up — and it may not, as Globe Life Field really has been all over the map since opening in 2020 — it’s a particularly good match for a flyball lefty in Gore. He’ll join Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi atop the Rangers rotation, with Jack Leiter as the heavy favorite for the fourth spot and likely Jacob Latz and Kumar Rocker competing for the fifth spot. The Rangers will pay him $5.8 million this year, and he’ll also be under control for 2027 before becoming a free agent.
