Gasper had been with the Red Sox previously, so this is a bit of a reunion for the 30-year-old. He has hit .303/.406/.512 in 117 games in Triple-A over the last three years, but that has not carried over to the MLB level, where he’s slashed .133/.250/.195 in 58 games with the Red Sox and Twins over the last two years.

It was a big homer, too, tying the game in the ninth off Jeff Hoffman. The three-hit game was also a first for the 29-year-old catcher/infielder. Gasper came into the night with a .115/.250/.131 line in 73 plate appearances this season. He went 0-for-18 for the Red Sox in his major league debut last year.

The 23-year-old struck out four and walked two on the day. In five starts this season, Abel has a 3.18 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 30:11 K:BB ratio in 28 1/3 innings. He was once one of the top pitching prospects in baseball but struggled badly last season. He seems to have turned things around a bit in 2025, and with Cristopher Sanchez battling an arm injury, Abel, who is on the 40-man roster, could get a shot to make his MLB debut soon.

The Twins needed to free up a spot on their active roster for the arrival of Luke Keaschall on Friday and Gasper was the odd man out. The 29-year-old went just 2-for-18 (.111) with a 7/4 K/BB ratio in 10 games with the big league club.
