The 6-foot-10 Gervase has allowed three runs, all on solo homers, in 6 1/3 innings of relief work for the Rays this season. He throws just 92-95 mph, but since he’s right on top of hitters when he releases the ball, he had a 39 percent strikeout rate in Triple-A. He was part of the Rays’ active roster before the trade, but the Dodgers will probably stick him in Triple-A for now.
