The Yankees have been going with six lefties against most right-handers, but Aaron Boone wanted more balance with the Jays throwing a bullpen game tonight. Of course, there’s still no room for switch-hitter Jasson Domínguez, who apparently returned to his home planet weeks ago.

The 38-year-old first baseman led off the ballgame with a single and scored the first run on Amed Rosario’s two-run double. Goldschmidt then smacked a run-scoring single in the seventh inning that extended the Yankees’ lead to 4-0 and he scored on a two-run double off the bat of Giancarlo Stanton. With the two-hit night, he’s now hitting .280/.331/.415 with 10 homers and 44 RBI over 510 plate appearances on the season.

Goldschmidt will be available off the bench in a limited capacity as he nurses an ongoing knee issue. The 37-year-old veteran has made only two starts over the past week for New York and isn’t a fantasy-relevant option outside of AL-only formats.

That right-hander is Kevin Gausman, who Goldschmidt is 10-for-19 with a homer and five walks against lifetime. With Goldschmidt in the lineup, Ben Rice is catching and Austin Wells is on the bench tonight.

This doesn’t come as a surprise, as Goldschmidt has basically been relegated to the short side of a platoon at first base over the second half of the season. The 37-year-old slugger has hit just .222/.268/.348 with four homers, 15 RBI and one stolen base over 248 plate appearances since the calendar flipped to June.

Goldschmidt returned after missing three games with right knee soreness. The 37-year-old smacked three hits including two doubles and drove in a run against his former team the Cardinals. Goldschmidt has seen his production and playing time wane over the last two months as he’s hitting .220 with two home runs in his last 40 games.

Goldschmidt is back at first base and batting sixth following a three-game absence due to right knee soreness. The hope for the Yankees, and fantasy managers, is that the quick breather enabled him to put the issue to bed before it developed into a greater concern.

Goldschmidt will miss a third consecutive game because of soreness in his right knee. The 37-year-old won’t face his former team again — and seems likely to miss Sunday’s contest, as well — with Ben Rice playing first base in his absence. Giancarlo Stanton is also out of the lineup Saturday with Jose Caballero getting the start in right.

The 37-year-old first baseman banged his knee on the ground after he slipped while trying to catch a foul pop during Wednesday’s game against the Twins. He’s still considered day-to-day. Cody Bellinger will cover first base on Friday night while Jose Caballero will draw a rare start in right field and bat ninth against Andre Pallante and the Cardinals.

Goldschmidt banged his right knee on the ground after his left leg slipped out from under him while he was trying to catch a foul popup on Tuesday. The Yankees are calling the injury a sprain, but they’re hopeful he can avoid the injured list.

Goldschmidt’s homer off Robert Garcia ended the scoring for the day. Goldschmidt went 14 years in between his first pinch-hit homer, coming as a rookie in 2011, and the one he hit May 14 against the Mariners. Now he has three in 38 career appearances as a pinch-hitter. He also has two homers in three games after going six weeks without one. He’ll probably still be on the bench Friday against the Astros’ Hunter Brown, but he should start versus lefties the following two days.

It will be Ben Rice starting at first base and hitting second. After a strong start to July, Goldschmidt is hitting .224 in 16 games since the All-Star break with 18 strikeouts and just a .616 OPS. It makes sense for Rice to be getting more playing time than him at first base, and Goldschmidt does not need to be rostered in shallow fantasy leagues.

Occupying the leadoff spot, Goldschmidt wasted no time starting the game with a home run off Patrick Corbin in the first inning. The 37-year-old first baseman would go on to have three hits and score three runs in the contest. Goldschmidt last had three hits in a game on July 11 against the Cubs and his last home run before Monday was June 19 against the Angels. To say things have slowed down for Goldschmidt after a hot start to the season would be putting it mildly.

While Goldschmidt’s playing time has been more sporadic since Giancarlo Stanton returned to his usual everyday DH role, it’s hard to argue with his results lately. The 37-year-old first baseman is splitting time with Ben Rice at the cold corner, but after hitting .143 in June he’s rebounded with a .333 average so far in July. Goldschmidt’s hit just two home runs since the end of May. He’s hitting .289 with a .781 OPS and 37 RBI on the season, and his lack of playing time and power make him only a fringe starter in deeper fantasy leagues.

Goldschmidt will get a chance out of the leadoff spot during Saturday afternoon’s matinee at Yankee Stadium. The 37-year-old veteran hasn’t exactly set the fantasy landscape ablaze this season, but he’s been a stabilizing presence for New York as a platoon first baseman. Ben Rice is on the bench to open Saturday’s contest with veteran southpaw Matthew Boyd taking the ball for Chicago.

It’s Goldschmidt’s fourth straight start after he spent a lot of time on the bench against righties the previous two weeks. That he’s getting picked over Ben Rice today surely has a lot to do with him being 7-for-13 with a homer and five walks lifetime against Gausman.

Goldschmidt had sat against four of the previous seven righties the Yankees had faced, so it was a little surprising to see him get the nod against flamethrower Chase Burns tonight. It didn’t wind up working out, though we don’t know that Giancarlo Stanton would have fared any better had he been in there. Goldschmidt is now batting .244/.287/.330 against righties, compared to .408/.494/.711 against lefties.

Goldschmidt figures to get plenty of chances this week with the Yankees set to face at least two left-handers, including Cincinnati southpaw Nick Lodolo on Monday night. The 37-year-old sat both games over the weekend against the Orioles after making four straight starts. It’ll be Ben Rice on the bench with Giancarlo Stanton occupying the DH spot.

Both off southpaw Tyler Anderson. Goldschmidt now has a 1.252 OPS against lefties, compared to a .647 mark against righties. The Orioles are throwing all righties this weekend, so it will be interesting to see how many games he starts. Manager Aaron Boone said Goldschmidt will not be platooned, but Goldschmidt was out of the lineup in favor of Ben Rice the last two times the Yankees faced right-handers.

It’s the lowest he’s hit in the order this season, and Goldschmidt didn’t do anything to justify hitting any higher. The good news for Goldschmidt is that the Yankees face lefties the next two days, and Goldschmidt has torched them all year.

Goldschmidt had the decisive hit, a liner to first that went off Vinnie Pasquantino’s glove. Pasquantino picked up the ball and belatedly tried for the out at first, which led to Pablo Reyes attempting to score from second on the play. Reyes, though, stumbled around third, nearly falling down, and should have been a dead duck, except Lucas Erceg botched the throw home for a run-scoring error. In truth, it could have been two errors on the play, since Goldschmidt’s liner was only 93 mph off the bat and really should have been caught. Since the run came on the error, this was a rare contest with zero runs batted in.

It looks like nothing more than a routine night off for the 37-year-old first baseman. Ben Rice will start in his place at first base and bat second for the Bombers against Slade Cecconi and the Guardians on Thursday evening in New York.

Blackburn is currently on the 15-day IL with a knee injury but will need to be activated from his rehab assignment soon. The Mets will play 10 consecutive days on their upcoming road trip, so it makes sense to add Blackburn to the rotation over that stretch. Where he would slot in and which team he would face remain to be seen.

Goldschmidt takes a seat with Ben Rice getting a turn at first base and Aaron Judge getting a break from patrolling right field at DH. The 37-year-old has been excellent this season in his Yankees debut, posting an .889 OPS with five homers and four steals through 52 games.

Goldschmidt’s hardest-hit ball of the day, a 108.5-mph grounder in the first, produced his lone out. It’s his seventh three-hit game of the year, and he’s hitting a stunning .344. It’s been 10 years since he hit a career-best .321 in 2015.

Goldschmidt’s average is up to .349 on the year. The 37-year-old first baseman is coming through as a classic older Yankees free agent acquisition. The two RBI give Goldschmidt 24 RBI on the season and his OPS is up to .904.

Goldschmidt was responsible for one of the four homers the Yankees hit Friday night, with the other three coming off the bat of Jasson Dominguez. The 37-year-old first baseman also singled and walked, and he’s now hitting a robust .345/.397/.486. There were plenty skeptical of the Goldschmidt signing after his disappointing 2024 campaign. So far, those skeptics have been proven quite wrong.

The 37-year-old first baseman did his damage against Mason Montgomery in the fifth inning of this one, blasting an 0-1 fastball for a 350-foot (96.7 mph EV) game-changing home run. Goldschmidt also singled in the ballgame, finishing the evening 2-for-4. While the power hasn’t quite been there to start his Yankees’ career, Goldschmidt is slashing a robust .361/.406/.500 with three homers, 16 RBI and one stolen base.

Goldschmidt gets an opportunity in the leadoff spot on Wednesday night with young lefty Cade Povich toeing the rubber for Baltimore. It’ll be red-hot Trent Grisham batting second followed by franchise cornerstone Aaron Judge and emerging slugger Ben Rice in the heart of the order.
