Gusto was previously seen giving up eight runs and one of Nick Kurtz’s four homers Friday against the A’s. This one obviously went a lot better, as he allowed four hits, walked one and struck out five against a lackluster lineup. This makes Gusto 7-4 with a 4.92 ERA, and it will help his chances of sticking in the rotation a little longer as the Astros start to get Spencer Arrighetti, Lance McCullers Jr. and Cristian Javier back and maybe also acquire a starter. Gusto should face the Marlins next week.

On the plus side, Gusto did manage to record five strikeouts on the night while issuing one free pass. The A’s jumped on him from the get-go, with three runs in the first, a solo blast from Nick Kurtz in the second, a solo shot from Tyler Soderstrom in the third and an RBI double by Kurtz in the fourth that finally chased him. The 26-year-old hurler got 15 swings and misses on 81 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 27 percent. With Lance McCullers Jr. sidelined, it’s possible that he’ll get another opportunity to start next week, but after this debacle it’s no guarantee. `

Gusto managed just one strikeout and gave up 12 hard-hit balls today, but it all worked out for him, as the hard contact produced only one double and three singles. He’s now 6-3, even though he has a 4.61 ERA in 12 starts and seven relief appearances. He’ll face the Rangers next weekend.

On the plus side for fantasy managers, the 26-year-old right-hander did manage to pile up seven strikeouts on the afternoon and didn’t walk a batter. Angels’ backstop Logan O’Hoppe tagged him for a two-run blast in the fourth inning to open the scoring, then Nolan Schanuel victimized him for a three-run blast in the fifth. Gusto generated 11 swings and misses on 79 pitches on the day — seven of those on his heater — while posting a strong CSW of 33 percent. Now 5-3 on the season, he’ll carry an uninspiring 4.62 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and a 67/23 K/BB ratio (60 1/3 innings) into a tough matchup against the Cubs on Saturday.

Both Gusto and Mitch Spence held their opponents to a single run in this contest, so both come away without their deserved victories. The only run Gusto gave up was a solo homer to JJ Bleday, and outside of that he allowed just two other hits and one walk in one of his best starts in the majors. Gusto will look to build on this outing and continue to lower a 4.31 ERA against the Angels over the weekend.

Gusto allowed just one walk, and he was able to hold the Pale Hose to just the pair of runs despite allowing seven hits. The 26-year-old’s seven punchouts are a career high, and it’s the third time in four starts that he’s allowed just two runs. The right-hander now has an ERA of 4.56, but that mark is inflated by one awful start against the Royals in May (seven runs allowed over 2 1/3 innings). He gets the Athletics in Sacramento next week.

Gusto’s first four major league starts produced a 3.00 ERA, but he’s given up 14 runs while pitching a total of 14 2/3 innings in the last four. He’s also walked 11 during that span. It might be time for the Astros to send him down and give Brandon Walter a real look. If not, Gusto will likely face the White Sox next week.

Cusick was designated for assignment Tuesday, and the Tigers claimed the former first-round pick and optoned him to Triple-A Toledo. He’s on the 40-man roster so he could help Detroit at some point this summer, but he hasn’t pitched well enough in the minors to suggest that’s going to happen.

The 26-year-old right-hander also issued three free passes while striking out four on the evening. While the Rays put plenty of pressure on him in the game, they were only able to scratch out single runs in the first and fourth innings against him. Gusto generated eight whiffs on 83 pitches on the evening — five on his heater — while posting a solid CSW of 30 percent. He’ll see if he can get back on track as he carries a 4.62 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and a 42/19 K/BB ratio (39 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

The procedural move opens up a spot on the club’s 40-man roster. Cusick has yet to appear in the big leagues and boasts a lackluster 6.75 ERA across 14 2/3 innings (13 appearances) this season for Triple-A Las Vegas.

Gusto has pitched well in limited opportunities this season, compiling a strong 2.93 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 29/8 K/BB ratio across 27 2/3 innings (nine appearances, four starts). The big concern here is that he’s made just one relief appearance and thrown 27 pitches since April 29. There’s probably going to be a strict pitch count during Monday’s start, but there’s some streaming appeal for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues.

Gusto has looked outstanding this season in his first big-league opportunity, recording a strong 3.00 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 29/6 K/BB ratio across 27 innings (eight appearances, four starts). The Astros are going to skip his next start on Tuesday against the Brewers with Lance McCullers Jr. (elbow) rejoining the rotation, but he’ll be available in a bulk relief capacity over the next few days. It’ll be Ronel Blanco, Hayden Wesneski and Framber Valdez starting the three games against Milwaukee. He figures to take the ball at some point later next week when Houston transitions back to a six-man rotation.

The 26-year-old hurler had been designated for assignment by the Cardinals earlier in the week. Loutos will add extra bullpen depth for the Dodgers. Blake Treinen was moved to the 60-day injured list to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster.

This was Gusto’s best start of the season, falling just one out short of a quality start. Nevertheless, his fastball starred forcing seven swings-and-misses at the top of the zone and was too much for the Blue Jays to handle. That pitch paired with his sweeper was enough to stifle right-handed batters. Against lefties, his curveball and cutter were just enough to get by while his changeup was a problem pitch. Of the nine he threw, none were in the strike zone and just one was chased. Still, his fastball is good enough to keep him relevant while he gets more chances in the Astros’ rotation. He’s scheduled to face the Tigers next time around.

Gusto pounded the strike zone; throwing 51-of-68 pitches for strikes in the victory. He caught a little too much of the plate, however, and was fortunate to give up just the pair of runs while striking out only two batters. Still, the results are once again solid for Gusto, and he improves to 2-1 with a 3.18 ERA for his trouble. He’s a risky streamer for Wednesday’s scheduled bout with the Blue Jays.

Gusto got the call to help out Houston’s injury-ravaged rotation and filled in admirably, limiting the Angels to just four hits and one walk over four frames. He struck out six and threw 72 pitches (48 strikes) in his first career start. He’ll presumably take the ball on Friday against the Padres, but that isn’t exactly official yet.
