With AJ Minter (lat) expected to open the season on the injured list, the Mets wanted to add second capable left-hander to their bullpen mix to work alongside Brooks Raley. Hudson will get the chance to compete for that job with Joe Jacques and Anderson Severino during spring training.

The Brewers needed to clear a couple of spots on their 40-man roster before Friday and unfortunately Hudson is one of the players that drew a short straw this time around. It’s possible that the 28-year-old southpaw passes through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra bullpen depth at Triple-A Nashville.

Hudson is back after being demoted by the Brewers near the end of April. He’ll be a middle-inning bullpen arm in this stint with the Brew Crew. Elvin Rodriguez was optioned down Thursday to make room for Hudson.
