Minnesota made it official on Wednesday morning with an announcement from Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey. Shelton’s introductory press conference will be held next Tuesday. The veteran skipper spent two seasons as a bench coach with the Twins from 2018-2019 before six seasons at the helm with the Pirates where he went 306-440 (.410) before being fired back in early May.

Hill heads back to the injured list for the second time this season with a left wrist sprain. The 29-year-old center fielder missed nearly one month the previous time back in mid-April. It’ll be prospect Victor Mesa Jr. taking his spot on the roster with Kyle Stowers moving over to center field in his absence.

Hill, 29, will be out of action for at least a week, and likely won’t return until near the end of April or beginning of May. With Hill unavailable, Jesus Sanchez and Dane Myers will likely see the bulk of playing time in center for Miami.

This definitely weakens the Marlins’ outfield defense, but it was clear Kyle Stowers and Griffin Conine were going to remain the lineup following Sánchez’s return. The team could have one of those guys DHing tonight, but Matt Mervis is there instead, with Eric Wagaman playing first base. We imagine Hill will still play a fair amount of center field, but the 0-for-12 slump that’s dropped his OPS from .806 to .578 isn’t helping the cause.
