The 24-year-old really struggled in his limited Grapefruit League action, hitting .091 (1-for-11) with a 1/3 K/BB ratio and three runs scored. Regardless of how he performed though, the O’s have a crowded mix of outfielders fighting for spots on the Opening Day roster and Bradfield was always going to be on the outside. He’ll open up the season as extra depth at Triple-A Norfolk.

Panama scored three times in a miscue-riddled sixth inning for Canada, with all of the runs against James Paxton being unearned. That gave Panama a 4-2 lead, and Bradfield nearly added to it in on José Caballero’s double in the eighth, only to be thrown out at home thanks to an awesome combined effort from Owen Caissie and relay man Otto Lopez. Canada came back with one in the bottom of the eighth, but it couldn’t even the score after a rain delay in the top of the ninth. Panama won for the first time in three games in Pool A. Canada is 1-1 with Puerto Rico and Cuba still on the schedule.

As expected, Hernández will miss the start of the season with his elbow injury, although the Dodgers didn’t disclose the specifics of the knock. The 34-year-old will be eligible to return off the injured list near the end of April, but there’s no guarantee he’ll be ready.

Bradfield has made some truly jaw-dropping catches in center field and is up to 11 thefts through 10 games this fall. The 23-year-old former first-round pick from the 2023 MLB Draft is knocking on the door to the majors after posting a .697 OPS with three homers and 36 steals across 76 games this past season in Baltimore’s system. He’s a classic better real-life than fantasy prospect since his main strength is on the defensive end of the spectrum, but he might enough stolen base upside to be impactful in deeper mixed leagues.

Apparently, someone told Kiké that it was already October. His double off Andrés Muñoz broke a 3-3 tie in the ninth. He’s 6-for-13 with four extra-base hits in his last three games, raising his OPS from .587 to .632.

It was Hernández’s 10th homer in 248 plate appearances this season. It’ll be fun to see how much faith the Dodgers put in Hernández’s run of excellent Octobers as they make out their lineups this postseason. The 34-year-old, who typically plays against lefties, is a lifetime .278/.353/.522 hitter in 259 playoff plate appearances, compared to .236/.304/.402 in 3,711 plate appearances during the regular season.

The Dodgers are hopeful Hernández will return at some point next week. The versatile 33-year-old utility specialist has been on the shelf since early July recovering from left elbow inflammation.

Jimenez didn’t have much of a path to playing time in Detroit with Josue Briceño and Thayron Liranzo ahead of him on the club’s minor-league depth chart. Hernández has seen an uptick in playing time since Max Muncy hit the injured list with a bone bruise in his left knee, but he’s going to miss a couple weeks. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Hernández has been dealing with the issue in his non-throwing elbow for nearly a month. The versatile 33-year-old figures to return at some point in the early stages of the second half.

Hernández also doubled. He obliterated his solo homer off a wholly ineffective Eduardo Rodriguez, with the ball traveling an estimated 438 feet. Hernández has not done much in the average category as a three-hit day still has him hitting .215, but the five homers and .468 slugging percentage are nice numbers. Maybe not nice enough, but nice regardless

Segura, who was signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2022, opened this season with a 3.18 ERA and a 19/8 K/BB in 17 innings for Low-A Clearwater. He was one of the Phillies’ better low minors pitching prospects, though he might wind up as a reliever in time.

Hernández gave the Dodgers a four-run cushion with his homer in the eighth inning to help Los Angeles to the come-from-behind win. He’s hitting just .145 on the season, but the power has been there with five homers over the first sixth of the season.
