Holliday was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup due to discomfort in his knee and was held out of action on Thursday as well as a precautionary measure. It appears to have been just a minor issue though as he’s right back in there on Friday and batting leadoff against Will Warren and the Yankees.

Holliday was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup with knee discomfort, and he will not be in the lineup on Thursday either. With Baltimore already eliminated from playoff contention, it makes no sense for them to put the 21-year-old in the lineup unless he’s 100 percent. Whether or not he makes it back into the lineup this weekend remains to be seen. Jorge Mateo will start at second base in Holliday’s place on Thursday.

It sounds like the Orioles aren’t going to take any chances in what amounts to a meaningless contest with Holliday experiencing some knee discomfort. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the 21-year-old former top prospect sit out a couple additional games during the final week of the season for precautionary reasons. Jordan Westburg moves over to the keystone with rookie standout Jeremiah Jackson handling the hot corner.

Holliday broke the 0-0 in this game with a run-scoring single in the third inning. That would wind up being the only run the Orioles would push across as the Blue Jays stormed past them. He’s had an excellent month of September with a .353/.450/.559 slash line as he tries to finish what’s been an otherwise disappointing season strong.

After breaking up Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s no-hit bid in the ninth inning of Saturday’s game, and jump-starting an eventual comeback victory, Holliday takes a seat with lefty Clayton Kershaw toeing the rubber for Los Angeles in this one. It’ll be rookie Luis Vázquez getting an opportunity at the keystone in this one.

It looked like Holliday was merely sparing the Orioles some embarrassment in a night on which they were celebrating the 30th anniversary of Cal Ripken Jr. breaking Lou Gehrig’s consecutive games streak, but after Yamamoto departed, Blake Treinen loaded the bases and walked in a run and Baltimore ended up winning on a two-run single from Emmanuel Rivera. The homer was Holliday’s second in three games and 17th overall. He’s mostly been treading water lately with his .248/.316/.394 line.

Holliday ensured that the Orioles wouldn’t be shut out in this one as he smacked an RBI double off of Spencer Bivens in the ninth inning and then scored on an RBI knock by Gunnar Henderson. The 21-year-old infielder has started to come into his own this season, slashing .246/.313/.384 with 15 homers, 51 RBI and 14 stolen bases (in 23 attempts) over 556 plate appearances.

Holliday came up big with a two-run homer in the eighth inning to tie the game at 4-4. It’s the first time he’s gone deep since July 20, which helps explain how his slugging percentage has dropped from .416 go .389 in that timeframe. Holliday has upper-echelon talent, but the ability to apply it is obviously a work-in-progress.

Holliday came up huge with a double in the ninth off Matt Brash to score Dylan Carlson from first base. The 21-year-old has been awful in August with a .373 OPS, and this was his first extra-base hit since the calendar turned. Perhaps this gets him back on the track, and the long-term potential is still readily apparent.

Holliday is 5-for-38 with no extra-base hits and a 10/1 K/BB in his last nine games, causing his OBP to dip below .700 for the first time since May 15. It’s really rather stunning how little he’s walked this season. He had a 17 percent walk rate in the minors in 2023 and was in at 22 percent in Triple-A last year. However, in the majors, he was at seven percent last year and he’s at just five percent right now. With his OBP sitting at .301, the Orioles might be sending him the wrong message by letting him lead off.

Holliday led off the game with a walk and swiped second base, but the O’s were unable to cash him in from there. He then tallied one of their three total hits with a single off of Cade Horton in the third inning. On the season, the 21year-old phenom is now hitting .262/.310/.412 with 14 homers, 43 RBI and 11 stolen bases (in 19 attempts) over 435 plate appearances.

Jordan Westburg slides over the second base, and will handle the leadoff spot, on Sunday afternoon against Rockies left-hander Austin Gomber. It’ll be Ramón Urías entering the lineup at the hot corner in this one. It’s an extremely rare day off for Holliday, who has played pretty much every game this season for Baltimore.

Holliday’s game-tying blast against Guardians starter Clade Cecconi was his lone hit in three at-bats during the low-scoring affair at Progressive Field. The 21-year-old former top prospect in baseball has homered four times in his last 15 games and is batting .290 (18-for-62) during that span. It’s been a rollercoaster season overall for Holliday, but he’s on pace to comfortably eclipse 20 homers and has a decent shot at reaching 20 steals as well.

Holliday got the scoring started with a solo home run in the first inning off Ryan Pepiot. It was his 13th home run and 39th RBI of the season. Since the 21-year-old took over as the regular lead-off hitter in Baltimore, he has hit .255/.292/.409 in 56 games with eight home runs, 28 runs scored, and 26 RBI with seven steals. It’s not otherworldly production, but it’s solid work from such a young player after a really poor MLB debut last season. The arrow is still pointed firmly up for Holliday.

Holliday needed this one. The 21-year-old is having a strong season, but also came into the day hitting .223/.273/.331 in 30 games since June 1st with 38 strikeouts and nine walks. He’s up to 11 home runs on the season with 36 RBI and a .260 average, so the season itself has been great, but there will be some bumps along the way for a player who is so young. Perhaps this is a sign that he’s coming out of his cold spell.

Holliday was responsible for Baltimore’s entire offensive output in the early stages of the contest as he scalded a run-scoring double to right field in the third inning before taking Rangers veteran lefty Patrick Corbin deep for a gargantuan 402-foot moonshot in the fifth inning. It was his ninth big fly of the season, ending a 14-game homerless drought in the process. He capped off a three-hit performance with an eighth-inning single to right field. The 21-year-old has experienced the typical ebbs and flows in production that many top prospects encounter as they acclimate to life in the majors, but he’s shown real flashes of superstar upside potential with greater frequency this season than last year’s underwhelming rookie campaign.

It’s Holliday’s first day off since May 24. He’s been struggling a bit of late, hitting .248/.275/.421 with four homers and five steals over his last 30 games. There’s been zero indication that Baltimore is considering any alternatives for the leadoff spot. It’ll be Luis Vázquez getting his first start at the keystone.

That homer came off J.P. Sears in the fifth, and tied the game at 4-4. He also doubled for the ninth time in 2025, while the roundtripper gives Holliday eight over the first 62 games of the season. The current .268/.320/.445 slash that the 21-year-old registers is far from a bad one, but there are signs that suggest we haven’t seen anything close to the best of Holliday just yet.

Holliday’s double in the third inning was his eighth of the season and set the Orioles up with runners on second and third with no outs. Baltimore would capitalize with two runs scored in the inning. Holliday continues to bat leadoff under new Orioles manager Tony Mansolino. The 21-year-old second baseman is hitting .269 with a .759 OPS and 25 RBI on the year.

Holliday started the bottom of the first inning with a leadoff homer off Davis Martin to put the Orioles on the board. It was the first leadoff home run of Holliday’s career. The 21-year-old second baseman is making tremendous strides at the dish this season, hitting .270/.320/.439 with seven homers, 25 RBI, and five steals across 203 plate appearances.

While the rest of the Orioles’ season has all but fallen apart, Holliday has turned a corner at the plate. All three of his batted balls in this game were hard-hit and the newly minted lead-off hitter has a .297/.336/.466 slash line over his last 30 games. There aren’t many second baseman who have looked more potent at the plate lately.

Holliday roped a first-pitch fastball from Joel Payamps for a two-out RBI triple in the seventh inning that pulled the Orioles to within a run at 3-2. That would be as close as they would get though. The 21-year-old phenom has been swinging a hot bat over the past few weeks and is now hitting .272/.331/.449 with six homers, 18 RBI and a pair of stolen bases through his first 160 plate appearances on the season.

The 21-year-old is now up to six home runs and 17 RBI on the season. He has been particularly good in May, going 18-for-57 (.316) with four home runs and eight RBI. The Orioles have also rewarded him by moving him up to lead off in the order, which should help his runs scored if this offense ever figures it out. We expected it to take a little while for Holliday to grow into his MLB power, but he seems to be doing that right now. When the humidity starts to kick in over the summer months in Baltimore, we may see the former top prospect push for 20 home runs this season.

Holliday hit .213 with two home runs and six RBI in his first 18 games this year. After a three-hit game against the Nationals on Friday, he’s 21-for-68 (.308) with two home runs and four RBI. The 21-year-old infielder’s average is up to .264. While he’s not exactly crushing it in the other categories with four home runs and two stolen bases, this represents progress for the former top prospect in all of baseball.

Holliday has looked the part as of late, and is hitting .384/.417/.682 in his six games in the month of May. Meanwhile, Cedric Mullins has gone just 1-for-26 over his last few contests, so he’ll be bumped down to sixth against the Halos on Saturday. Holliday is an intriguing fantasy option hitting lower because of his skill set, but there’s a lot more to like if he can hit at the top of this lineup.

Holliday also drew a walk for a nifty three-reach game, and picked up his second double of the campaign. The 21-year-old has picked up hits in six of his seven games played in May, and since the middle of April, he’s (mostly) looked like the player who was ranked by most as the top prospect in baseball. The future is bright, but this version of Holliday certainly has relevancy in most fantasy leagues.

With Cedric Mullins sitting out on Thursday, Gunnar Henderson will bat lead off, and Holliday will jump up from sixth in the order to second. Holliday is riding a hot streak right now, and the Orioles are taking advantage. This is likely just a one-game sample with no Mullins or Adley Rutschman in the lineup, but Rutschman has been struggling, so perhaps it could become a more permanent spot in the lineup for Holliday moving forward.

Holliday now has four home runs and 11 RBI on the season. The 21-year-old has been with hits in seven of his last eight games, but the power was nice to see here. Holliday hadn’t hit a home run since April 16th and had just one RBI since then as well, so even though the recent hot streak has been nice, Holliday hasn’t contributed outside of batting average. Perhaps today will be the beginning of a change.

Holliday has been seeing the ball well of late, hitting .268 (11-for-41) with one homer and one steal over his last 15 games. It’ll be veteran Jorge Mateo getting an opportunity to face Kansas City left-hander Kris Bubic.
