Heim had gotten the day off Tuesday but stepped in as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning and slugged a two-run homer off Enyel De Los Santos to cut into the Astros’ lead. He then added a base hit with two outs in the ninth. The 30-year-old backstop is up to 11 homers and 43 RBI while slashing .219/.278/.345 across 411 plate appearances.

Tong came to the show with plenty of fanfare and delivered. This debut had plenty of high points, like a six-pitch first inning and finding his secondary stuff in the middle innings. It also had a few moments where he had to put his head down and show some grit, like working through an error by Francisco Lindor to get through the fifth and only generating seven total swings-and-misses. Yet, his lineup spotted him a 12-run cushion and he was able to work through these kinks to eventually earn the win. On top of that, his bubbly nature on the mound was infectious and the Citi Field faithful were behind him every step of the way. More whiffs will come with better fastball command and fine-tuning his sequencing between that fastball, changeup, and curveball. Still, it’s impossible not to be highly encouraged by this debut and he’ll have a chance to build on it next Friday night against the Reds in Cincinnati. However, the Mets adding Tong to their staff means they’re going forward with a six-man rotation, so there’s a chance they could shuffle their starters at some point this week with an off day on Thursday.

Tong is up to make his MLB debut against the Marlins on Friday. The 22-year-old has been sensational in the minors in 2025 with a 1.43 ERA and 179/47 K/BB over 113 2/3 innings. There’s some risk involved with a player making his debut — obviously — and Tong will occasionally deal with command issues, but there’s a considerable amount of upside in his right arm. The reward outweighs the aforementioned risk.

Tong, who has a 1.43 ERA and a 179/47 K/BB in 113 2/3 innings in the minors this season, made his last start for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, so the earliest he could pitch for the Mets would be Thursday. Friday or Saturday seems more likely, since he’s rarely pitched on four days’ rest. We assume the Mets are going to a six-man rotation for now, though it’s also possible there’s an injury we don’t know about yet. Regardless, Tong should be picked up wherever he’s available.

Tong has compiled a stellar 1.43 ERA and 179/47 K/BB across 113 2/3 innings in the upper minors this season. The electrifying 22-year-old strikeout artist will make his highly-anticipated major-league debut on Friday against the division-rival Marlins at Citi Field, according to Mets manager Carlos Mendoza. We assume the Mets are going to a six-man rotation for now, though it’s also possible there’s an injury we don’t know about yet. Regardless, Tong should be picked up in all fantasy leagues wherever he’s still available.

Tong continues to build a compelling case for a spot in New York’s rotation over the final five weeks with another gem on the doorstep of the majors. The 22-year-old piled up 21 swinging strikes and retired 13 consecutive batters at one point in this outing, He leads the entire minors with 177 punchouts over 113 2/3 innings (22 starts). His immense strikeout upside gives him instant appeal for fantasy purposes, even in shallow mixed leagues, once he ascends to the big leagues. He’s worthy of a speculative stash in case New York decides to give him an opportunity during the final month of the season.

Tong, who has established himself as one of the game’s top pitching prospects, is making his second Triple-A start tonight after throwing 5 2/3 scoreless innings and striking out nine a week ago. He has a 1.50 ERA and a 171/46 K/BB in 107 2/3 innings on the season, and if the Mets were to bring him up next month, he might offer some value in mixed leagues.

That’ll work. Tong didn’t skip a beat in his Triple-A debut, allowing just five baserunners and generating a whopping 18 swinging strikes while working into the sixth inning. The electrifying 22-year-old leads the entire minors with 171 punchouts over 107 2/3 innings (21 starts) this season in the upper minors. His odds of reaching the big leagues during the final weeks have evaporated with Nolan McLean grabbing a spot in New York’s rotation, but he’s going to make a significant fantasy impact once he arrives at some point in 2026.

Tong was dominant in Double-A on Sunday, allowing one run on three hits in five innings while striking out eight. He was then told that he would be promoted following the game, which is not surprising considering he has a 1.59 ERA and 162 strikeouts in 102 innings so far this season. There is a chance that the Mets will use him as a reliever in September, but it feels more likely that Tong will battle for a rotation spot in 2026.

Here’s an oversimplification: Tong is the most exciting pitching prospect in the fantasy landscape right now. The 22-year-old strikeout machine leads the entire minors this season with a staggering 154 punchouts across 97 innings of work. It’s highly unlikely the Mets will consider giving him a look down the home stretch, especially with Nolan McLean — who struck out seven over 5 2/3 scoreless frames on Tuesday at Triple-A Syracuse — and Brandon Sproat also pitching well. However, Frankie Montas’ ongoing struggles could open the door. It’s a situation fantasy managers should continue monitoring closely.

Heim’s home run was his ninth of the year. The 30-year-old catcher knocked in 95 runs, made the All-Star team and won a Gold Glove award in 2023. Unfortunately, he hasn’t come close to reaching those heights in either of the last two years. Heim is hitting .220 with a .622 OPS and 31 RBI this year.

The 26th-ranked prospect in Rotoworld’s midseason dynasty rankings update, Tong continued his dominant run in the minors this season by piling up another seven punchouts in his second-half debut. The 22-year-old prodigy retired 11 of the final 15 batters he faced to lower his ERA to a sparkling 1.71 mark with a minor league-leading 132 strikeouts over 84 innings (16 starts). It’s theoretically possible he could ascend to New York by the end of the regular season, but we’re anticipating he’ll be a part of the Mets’ rotation plans at some point early next year.

Heim hasn’t been great in batting .230/,266/.380, but the Rangers have favored him over Kyle Higashioka, who is receiving less playing time than it looked like he would at the beginning of the year. The start tonight was Heim’s 56th in the Rangers’ 81 games; he’s caught 47 times and DH’d on nine occasions.

It’s not out of the question that Tong could ascend to the majors before the end of the year, but the Mets have an extremely crowded rotation mix and little incentive to push him too aggressively. The 22-year-old righty notched his fourth double-digit strikeout performance of the season on Saturday and is up to 107 punchouts over 67 innings of work at the Double-A level. He’s one of the most intriguing pitching prospects in the fantasy landscape based on his ability to miss bats. He’s a name to watch in the second half of the year, even in standard re-draft formats.

The Rangers were one strike away from being shut out in this one when Heim blasted a 362-foot (96.1 mph EV) two-run shot off of Ian Hamilton to pull them to within three runs at 5-2. Heim also doubled off of Will Warren in the ballgame, finishing the night 2-for-4. On the season, the 29-year-old backstop is now slashing .262/.309/.429 to go along with six long balls and 17 RBI.

Heim got the Rangers on the board with an RBI single in the sixth, but it was the last run Texas would score against JP Sears and the Athletics’ bullpen. Heim has enjoyed a solid first month of the 2025 campaign with a slash os .261/.301/.464, but he’s only driven in nine runs over his 21 games.
