On the plus side, the 24-year-old southpaw managed to rack up six strikeouts in the abbreviated outing while issuing three free passes. He worked his way out of a bases-loaded one-out jam in the second inning, but didn’t have such luck in the fourth where the first five hitters before Harrison turned the ball over to the bullpen. He finishes the season with a 4.04 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and a 38/14 K/BB ratio over 35 2/3 innings of work between the Giants and Red Sox.

Sunday is Lucas Giolito’s turn, but with the Red Sox nearly assured of a Wild Card spot at this point, he could either be skipped or just pitch a couple of innings if he’d prefer to stay sharp.

Harrison was brilliant on Saturday in his first career start for the Red Sox, holding the Rays to just one run on a pair of hits in the fourth inning. He’d give Boston six frames, striking out five batters on 86 pitches in Tampa Bay. The 24-year-old left-hander is in line for one more regular season start against the Tigers in Boston next weekend.

Harrison took over to start the sixth with the Red Sox down 4-3 and gave the team a chance to come back. They finally did so with one run in the top of the ninth, but they lost the game that inning anyway. It’s unclear if Harrison will stick around after this. The Red Sox have Thursday and Monday off, so they have some flexibility if they’d like to add an extra hitter for the weekend.

Harrison will have a chance to make his debut with the Red Sox after being acquired by Boston in the blockbuster deal for Rafael Devers. Payton Tolle is starting Wednesday’s game, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Harrison worked multiple innings in this contest. There’s still considerable long-term upside in his left arm, but fantasy managers should wait to see his role before rostering in redraft formats.

Harrison was a potential option to start for the Red Sox last week, but an ankle injury kept him off the mound. The 24-year-old threw just 26 pitches on Sunday, allowing one run on two hits but striking out two. The Red Sox want to keep him as a potential option for innings on Wednesday against the Athletics, where he could form a bullpen game with fellow left-hander Payton Tolle.

Well then. Speier reports that Brennan Bernardino is expected to open with Dustin May working in bulk. The expectation was Harrison would make his debut with Boston on Wednesday, but for whatever reason(s), it appears he’ll have to wait at least another couple of days. Weird.

Boston doesn’t want Payton Tolle pitching on four days’ rest, so he’s expected to be held back until Friday’s game against the Diamondbacks. Harrison would be facing the Guardians, making him an intriguing streaming option. He has a 2.35 ERA in his last five starts for Triple-A Worcester.

Harrison and Richard Fitts are the front-runners to replace veteran Walker Buehler in Boston’s rotation. The most exciting option is top prospect Payton Tolle, but he might have to wait for his opportunity for now. Harrison came over from the Giants in the Rafael Devers stunner back in mid-June. The 24-year-old former top prospect remains a work in progress, but has strung together a couple encouraging outings in a row on the doorstep of the majors.

Harrison also struck out eight but walked four and threw 52 of his 94 pitches for strikes. The left-hander now has back-to-back shutout outings and has allowed just two runs on 11 hits in his last 15 innings. One thing to keep an eye on is that Harrison had trouble locating his fastball on Wednesday, and the pitch sat 1.4 mph slower than his season average. Perhaps it was just a one-game blip, and the results have been good otherwise.

Karros, the son of former Dodgers’ slugger Eric Karros, was slashing .301/.398/.476 with six homers, 26 RBI and seven stolen bases over 269 plate appearances across three minor league levels. The 23-year-old slugger will start at third base and bat eighth for the Rockies on Friday evening against Zac Gallen and the Diamondbacks. He could carve out some mixed league value over the final two months of the season if he plays his way into regular action with the Rockies.

The 23-year-old left-hander allowed two hits while walking three, striking out seven, and posting a 26 percent whiff rate and 30 percent CSW. He threw 61 of his 99 pitches for strikes, mixing in 17 of the new cutters Boston has been working on and generating a 33 percent whiff rate on the pitch. His curve (or slurve) is now down almost three mph with four inches more vertical break, and Harrison was able to push a 62 percent zone rate on the pitch. It seems like things are coming together for Harrison, and he could be an option in the starting rotation if Walker Buehler or Dustin May were to falter.

The 23-year-old left-hander was one of the key pieces in the trade for Rafael Devers. He “was electric” two starts ago, throwing all of his pitches in the zone and racking up swings and misses. However, his last start was not as efficient. “On Sunday, [his] stuff still looked good, but just a little bit more erratic. He walked five or six, was underneath the ball a little bit, losing it armside. So the outing wasn’t as crisp,” said Tracy. That inconsistency is not a surprise considering the Red Sox are overhauling his pitch mix and approach, but the team will need him to attack the strike zone more often to get called up. With the Red Sox looking for starting pitcher depth at the deadline, it could take the pressure off them needing to promote Harrison before he’s ready.

Karros, the son of former Dodgers’ first baseman Eric Karros, was promoted to Triple-A a little over a week ago, so this is his first home run at the level. On the season, Karros is hitting .297/.401/.460 in 67 games at Double-A and Triple-A with five home runs, 24 RBI, seven steals, and a 54/39 K/BB ratio. He could push to be the team’s starting first baseman in 2026.

Harrison also struck out five and walked one while throwing 61 of his 86 pitches for strikes. The 23-year-old seems to be starting to get comfortable with some of the changes that Boston has made to his pitch mix. On Tuesday, he threw 17 cutters, which only registered one whiff but had an average exit velocity of just 69 mph on all batted balls allowed. He also seems to have revamped his changeup, which had less spin than when he was in San Francisco, while also adding four inches of vertical drop. The pitch had a 50 percent whiff rate and 46 percent CSW on Tuesday. It’s conceivable that he takes Richard Fitts’ spot in the rotation sometime soon.

Harrison needed 92 pitches to get 11 outs, throwing 54 of those pitches for strikes while allowing four hits. Harrison threw primarily fastballs and got eight of his nine whiffs on his four-seam. He also threw 22 curves and mixed in 15 of his new cutters. Patience is required when making changes to an approach and pitch mix. Given the Red Sox’s success with their pitchers at the minor league level, it’s reasonable to assume Harrison will work out the kinks. But with Tanner Houck also nearing a return from the IL, they may not need to rush Harrison up to the big leagues.

Harrison struck out four and walked two while allowing three of his four runs on two home runs, one of which was on a cutter two inches off the inside part of the plate that was somehow pulled out of the stadium. The results are not the important thing here for Harrison as the Red Sox continue to change his pitch mix and approach. The 23-year-old has added a cutter and threw it 15 times on Tuesday. He threw 56 of his 84 pitches for strikes and continues to showcase a strong four-seam fastball as a foundation for his arsenal with a cutter he can now use to get ahead of righties and a slurve that remains a good swing-and-miss pitch to lefties. We’d expect to see him up in Boston by the end of July.

Harrison was due to pitch the night the Giants traded him to the Red Sox and then the Red Sox kept him out for some side work after acquiring him, so he was making his first appearance since June 10. The results obviously weren’t great, but they also don’t really matter at the moment, as the Red Sox have him doing some new things. He wound up throwing 11 hard sliders last night, which was a change from his usual fastball-curve-change arsenal.

Harrison will be throwing a bullpen on Saturday, and DeLucia was open about what the team is hoping to work with him on. “He has a sinker he’s been working on in the background in San Francisco. He’s going to showcase that, and then we’re working on a cutter variation. Another pitch to take pressure off the fastball.” Harrison has an elite four-seamer, so adding secondary pitches to support that would be a huge development for him. He’s going to remain in Triple-A for a few weeks while Boston continues to work on these pitch mix changes.

Harrison was then inexplicably optioned to Triple-A Worcester. Surely Red Sox nation won’t overreact to that at all. The 23-year-old southpaw has made eight appearances (four starts) for the Giants this season, compiling a 4.56 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 25/9 K/BB ratio over 23 2/3 innings. It shouldn’t take him long to get a real shot in the Red Sox’ starting rotation.

Bradish told reporters that his goal is to start live bullpen sessions in July, and then begin a rehab assignment. That could see the 28-year-old join the Baltimore rotation in August, but that’s far from a guarantee. It’d be nice to see Bradish on the bump for a couple of months to help determine his potential fantasy value for 2026.

Bradish still needs to progress to facing hitters before he’s cleared for a rehab assignment. He’s been throwing bullpen sessions for a couple weeks as he continues to work his way back from last year’s Tommy John surgery. He should be ready to make his season debut around midseason.

This was Bradish’s first bullpen as he recovers from Tommy John surgery he underwent last June. The hope is that Bradish can return to the Baltimore rotation at some point in the middle of the 2025 campaign.
