It’s unfortunate for fantasy managers that he’s getting his breather against Michael Lorenzen and at Coors Field, but Hernández deserves a day off every once in a while. Alex Call will start in his place in left field and bat sixth for the Dodgers while Ryan Ward makes his big league debut, starting at first base and batting seventh.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts continues mixing things up with Mookie Betts (oblique) on the injured list, moving Hernández up to the cleanup spot to face Mets southpaw David Peterson. Miguel Rojas and Santiago Espinal are also on the lineup card with lefties Hyeseong Kim and Alex Freeland riding the bench.

If you’re going to have to take a day off, doing so in a matchup against Jacob deGrom isn’t a bad idea. Alex Call will start in his place in left field and will bat eighth for the Dodgers on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles.

Hernández hit one of two homers off Jack Leiter in the first inning — the other by some guy named Ohtani — and it gave the Dodgers’ a 4-1 lead. The 33-year-old slugger has gone deep three times while driving in 11 runs over the first 14 games. Hernández hasn’t shown a lick of consistency over the past two seasons, but when he’s hot, there aren’t all that many better.

That’s two more RBI than he had against the Jays in 33 at-bats in the World Series last year. Hernández is hitting .353/.389/.559 with two homers through nine games. There isn’t much behind those numbers to suggest he’s swinging any better than he did during his disappointing 2025, but we’ll wait another couple of weeks at least to pass judgment there.

Hernández takes a seat for the first time this season after going 3-for-4 with three runs scored during Friday’s blowout win in Washington. The 33-year-old has recorded just one extra-base hit through seven games this season, hitting .320 (8-for-25) with a pair of RBI. It’ll be Alex Call in left field to face Nationals starter Jake Irvin.

Hernández is the owner of a weird early-season line, hitting .320/.320/.360 with one extra-base hit in his first seven games. It’s early, but his expected slugging percentage of .304 shows that this isn’t a major fluke -- his max exit velocity this year is 102.1, and his average is down to an MLB-average 88.6. He hasn’t barreled a ball yet all season. He’s also spent the majority of the year hitting seventh in a loaded Dodgers lineup. Miles Mikolas did what he could today, but Hernández needs to start finding his power stroke to remain a no-thought-about-it starter in 12-team leagues.

Hernández took Brewers starter Chad Patrick deep for an impressive 414-foot blast in the third inning. It was his third big fly of the spring. The 33-year-old corner outfielder’s plate skills slipped last year in his second season with the Dodgers, but he still provided his usual power and counting stats mix with 25 homers and 89 RBI in 134 games. It might be unrealistic to project a return to near-elite production but his spot in one of the best lineups in recent memory gives him an extremely high fantasy floor as a three-category contributor with a respectable batting average.

Hernández started the scoring in the home half of the first, smacking an RBI double off of Nick Lodolo. He then came around to score on Freddie Freeman’s run-scoring double. He followed that up by clobbering a 379-foot (101.6 mph EV) two-run shot off of Tejay Antone in the fifth that made it an 8-3 ballgame. The 33-year-old outfielder has been on another level this spring, hitting .464 (13-for-28) with a homer and eight RBI.

Hernández smacked an RBI double off of Mitch Spence in the first inning that extended the Dodgers’ early advantage to 3-0. He also drove home Ryan Ward with an RBI single in the fourth that capped off the scoring in the ballgame. He has been sizzling at the plate to start the spring, slashing .476/.500/.571 with four RBI and a 4/1 K/BB ratio through his first eight games.

Amazingly, the Dodgers put up 15 runs without hitting the ball out of the park. Hernández scored 20 percent of those runs while doubling and singling twice. The 33-year-old wasn’t great in 2026 and was the subject of trade rumors, but he’s an excellent bounceback candidate in the loaded Dodgers’ offense in 2026.

Hernández wouldn’t seem to be in great demand after performing as just a league-average hitter in the first year of a three-year, $66 million deal, but since that contract included a $23 million signing bonus, it’s pretty friendly going forward; he’s owed $33 million for two years or $41.5 million for three, with $16 million of that being deferred for six years. He wouldn’t be a bad pickup at that price, especially for a team that could give him some DH time. Still, it seems likely that the Dodgers will keep him unless they add a big name to their outfield.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has flip-flopped Hernández, who snapped out of an early-series slump with a four-hit effort during Monday’s Game 3 extra-inning marathon, and Max Muncy on his lineup card as they prepare to face Blue Jays veteran Shane Bieber on Tuesday night in Los Angeles. The only other note here is that the Dodgers continue sticking with Andy Pages in center field despite the fact he’s batting .083 this postseason. Here’s the full lineup: Shohei Ohtani (DH), Mookie Betts (SS), Freddie Freeman (1B), Will Smtih (C), Hernández (RF), Muncy (3B), Tommy Edman (2B), Enrique Hernandez (LF) and Pages (CF).

Hernández put Los Angeles ahead in the second inning when he connected on a hanging slider from Blue Jays starter Max Scherzer, sending a majestic 412-foot blast down the left field line. It was a much-needed big fly for the veteran slugger after going 0-for-7 with five strikeouts in the first two contests of the Fall Classic. He also made an incredible throw in the 10th inning to cut down Davis Schneider at home plate to keep the contest tied.

Hernández atoned for a costly mistake on the basepaths in the series opener by taking Brewers ace Freddy Peralta deep for a pivotal game-tying homer in the second inning after the Dodgers fell behind in the opening frame. It was his fourth playoff round-tripper. The veteran slugger continues to display a propensity for lackluster defense and suboptimal baserunning while making up for it with timely homers in clutch situations.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has Hernández hitting behind top-of-the-order staples Shohei Ohtani — who is mired in an uncharacteristic 4-for-27 (.148) slump this postseason — and Mookie Betts with veteran left-hander Freddie Freeman moved back to the cleanup spot with Milwaukee rolling with lefty opener Aaron Ashby to kick off the best-of-seven series. Here’s the full lineup: Ohtani (DH), Betts (SS), Hernández (RF), Freeman (1B), Will Smith (C), Tommy Edman (2B), Max Muncy (3B), Enrique Hernández (LF) and Andy Pages (CF).

Hernández transformed a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 advantage as he crushed a 1-0 fastball from Matt Strahm for a 394-foot (102.9 mph EV) three-run shot with two outs in the seventh inning. He struck out in each of his three other plate appearances in the ballgame yet still emerged as the offensive hero in the ballgame. The Dodgers will now look to take a commanding lead in the series on Monday evening in Philadelphia.

Hernández can erase an entire disappointing season with a strong October run here. He seemed up to the task with four hard-hit balls tonight. His homers both went 390 feet, leaving his bat at 108.7 and 104.3 mph, respectively. His single was a 106.5-mph grounder.

The 32-year-old outfielder plated Mookie Betts with an RBI double in the third inning that pulled the Dodgers to within a run at 4-3. He then gave them a lead they wouldn’t relinquish with a two-run double off of Kirby Yates in the fifth inning. Hernández also reached on a fielder’s choice in the sixth and scampered home on a wild pitch. Hernández took a Jeremiah Estrada offering out of the park to extend the Dodgers’ lead to 3-2. That’s the 19th homer on the season for Hernández, and he’s up to 72 RBI in 99 games. That’s the third homer of August for the 32-year-old, which is one more than he hit in all of July. It wouldn’t be a surprise at all if Hernández went on a hot run over the next few weeks. He’s tend to run hot-and-cold for most of his career.
