This finalizes a deal that was agreed to on Friday. Ibáñez, who hit .239/.301/.352 for the Tigers last season, will probably get a spot on the Dodgers bench initially, though he might just be keeping a seat warm for Kiké Hernández, who is widely expected to be re-signed by the Dodgers and who is due to miss the first month or so after elbow surgery. Until then, Ibáñez figures to see starts at second and third versus left-handed pitchers.

Both hits came off Eduardo Rodriguez. The plan likely is for Ibáñez’s stay to be a short one, but he can help against lefties and play quality infield defense if the Tigers want to keep him around.

Ibáñez receives the call back to Detroit to fortify the club’s bench. It’ll likely only be a temporary stay since they’ll need to free up an active roster spot for newly acquired starter Chris Paddack in a couple days.

The 32-year-old has made a career for himself by mashing against left-handed pitching, but he struggled mightily in his time at the dish this season — slashing a woeful .213/.292/.319 with only two home runs and 15 RBI in 106 plate appearances. He’ll attempt to work through his issues in an everyday role at the Triple-A level. Jahmai Jones was promoted to the big league roster to take his spot on the Tigers’ bench.

The 32-year-old lefty-masher did his job in this one, roping a run-scoring double off of Kyle Freeland to open the scoring in the top half of the first inning. He also chipped in a sacrifice fly in the second that extended the Tigers’ advantage to 5-0. For the season, he’s now hitting .259/.339/.407 to go with two home runs and 12 RBI.

Ibáñez did what he does best in this one, which is mash left-handed pitching. He tagged Royals’ southpaw Cole Ragans for a 396-foot (103.9 mph EV) solo shot to open the fourth inning, giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead that they would never relinquish. On the season, the 32-year-old infielder is now hitting .171/.256/.371 with a pair of homers and eight RBI.
