Imai is starting to ramp up his throwing program after hitting the injured list with arm fatigue earlier this month. The 27-year-old underwent an MRI that didn’t reveal any structural damage. He also divulged to reporters that he’s struggled to make the transition to life in the majors both on and off the field during his Astros debut. He doesn’t appear close to returning to Houston at this juncture.

The 27-year-old right-hander told reporters, through his interpreter, that he felt good after the session but isn’t sure when he’ll be cleared to throw off of a mound. It sounds like it could wind up being a while before he’s ready to contribute to the Astros’ rotation.

The bigger concern here is that Imai told reporters through an interpreter on Tuesday that he hasn’t been able to adjust to an American lifestyle in terms of baseball and outside of baseball citing travel and team meals as specific aspects of the transition he’s been struggling with. It’s not great. The 27-year-old starter is clearly going to need some extended time away from the club to focus on getting right both physically and mentally. At this point, it’s challenging to envision him making a significant fantasy impact this season based on his comments and on-field performance.

The Astros might just need to check in on how Dallas Keuchel and Jordan Lyles are doing. Perhaps get the whole 2013 band back together. Imai complained of arm fatigue a day after getting just one out against the Mariners in his start Friday. Colton Gordon was recalled and figures to join the rotation in his place.

Imai, who got just one out and walked four in his start against the Mariners on Friday, could become the third Astros starter to land on the IL since the beginning of the season. Ryan Weiss might be next in line to join the rotation.

Not good. McTaggart adds that there is usually an injury concern, typically to be evaluated by team doctors, when a player leaves the club on a road trip. Nothing official from the club, but there should be an update shortly. Imai walked four batters, gave up a hit and also hit one batter, before being lifted after needing 37 pitches to record just one out during Friday’s meltdown start against the Mariners. We’ll have updates on the developing situation as they unfold.

The bottom of the first started walk, walk, single, walk and HBP before Imai finally got his first out on a grounder. Another walk followed, and Imai was done after 37 pitches. Imai now had 13 strikeouts and 11 walks through 8 2/3 innings as a major leaguer. He’ll probably have more good starts than bad this season, but since he’s still working to adjust to the MLB baseball and a new pitching schedule, he’ll be considerably more interesting in fantasy leagues next year than he is right now.

Imai was dominant in Sacramento on Saturday, holding the A’s scoreless into the sixth. Two walks in the inning would put just the second runner in scoring position on the day before Imai’s day was done at 94 pitches. The 27-year-old right-hander generated an impressive 18 whiffs to collect nine strikeouts. It was a nice bounce-back after giving up four runs in his debut. Imai lines up for a start against the Mariners in Seattle on Friday.

Imai struggled with his command in this one, issuing four free passes while striking out four opposing hitters. He kept the Angels off the board through his first two frames, but they broke through in the third on a three-run double by Jorge Soler and an RBI single by Jo Adell. Imai got seven swings and misses on 74 offerings in the ballgame, posting a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll look to shake this one off and show the world what he can do when he takes on the Athletics in Sacramento on Saturday.
