It feels like the magic may have run out for the Rangers’ “little rascals” as they’ve lost four games in a row and been swept by the Astros to fall further out from playoff contention. Jung’s double brought home one of their two runs and he;s desperately trying to close what’s been a disappointing season on a high note.

Jung will get a day off for the finale against Arizona. The 27-year-old will likely be available off the bench with Ezequiel Duran getting the start at the hot corner and hitting seventh.

Jung ambushed the very first pitch that J.T. Ginn threw in the second inning, crushing a 405-foot (103.3 mph EV) solo shot that increased the Rangers’ advantage to 3-0. He then added an RBI double in the ninth inning. Jung struck out in each of his other three plate appearances in the ballgame. For the season, the 27-year-old infielder is now slashing .259/.304/.405 with 13 homers and 53 RBI in 415 plate appearances.

Jung has been dealing with some calf issues and has been a part-time player of late, though this week, that was probably more about his performance than the calf; he came into tonight in a 5-for-43 slump since Aug. 6. He’ll probably reemerge as a full-timer until he gets hot, but he can’t be picked up in shallow leagues until that happens.

Jung took grounders before today’s game. He missed four games last week before returning as a DH on Monday. He didn’t start Tuesday, as the Rangers wanted Joc Pederson DHing against a right-hander, but he’s back in there today against a lefty. The Rangers are off Thursday.

Jung finds himself back on the bench with Joc Pederson, who belted a clutch game-tying homer against Yankees closer Devin Williams during Monday’s series opener, at DH. The 27-year-old third baseman, who crushed a walk-off homer in the 10th inning of Monday’s marathon affair, is managing a lingering calf issue. He should be available off the bench for a late-game situation, if necessary.

Jung’s home run was his 11th of the season. He hit a three-run walkoff home run off Jake Bird in the bottom of the 10th inning. Jung is 13-for-34 (.382) with three home runs and eight RBI over his last 10 games. He’s hitting .252 with a .697 OPS and 43 RBI this year.

There wasn’t a ton of reason for optimism after Jung missed four consecutive games due to a lingering calf issue, but he’s back in there for Monday’s showdown at Globe Life Field. It’ll be Josh Smith at the hot corner once again, but the Rangers will have Jung’s bat back in the lineup to face Yankees lefty Max Fried.

It’ll be versatile Josh Smith at the hot corner again with Jung taking a seat for the fourth straight game to address a lingering calf issue. The 27-year-old third baseman remains day-to-day heading into Monday’s series opener against the Yankees.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters he wants to give Jung another day off as he continues to battle a calf issue, which has kept him out of the lineup for three straight games at this juncture. It sounds like there’s a decent chance he’s ready for Sunday’s series finale against Seattle.

Jung sat out Thursday’s series opener due to calf soreness, according to Rangers manager Bruce Bochy. The 27-year-old third baseman figures to return to the lineup at some point this weekend. It’ll be versatile Josh Smith taking over at the hot corner on Friday night in his absence.

Jung didn’t exactly hit his way back to the majors during his brief Triple-A stint — he came in at .205/.225/.410 — but he came up big tonight in clubbing his ninth homer in 301 plate appearances. It’s the first time since 2023 that he’s scored three runs in a game.

Jung receives the call back to Texas after spending nearly three weeks working on things at the Triple-A level. The 27-year-old third baseman batted only .205 (8-for-39) in the minors, but did hit a pair of homers during eight games following his demotion. The hope here for the Rangers is that the demotion served as a bit of a wake-up call and gets him going for the final two-plus months of the season.

This certainly qualifies as an unexpected development. Jung has been mired in a prolonged slump at the dish for the last few weeks, hitting .164 (19-for-116) with one homer and 16 RBI over his last 30 games. He’s struggled to a lackluster .237/.283/.366 slash line with just eight homers and 35 RBI over 75 games this season. He’ll get a chance to reset at the Triple-A level and work on things out of the spotlight. It’ll likely be some combination of Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran taking over at the hot corner.

The homer was Jung’s first since May 16. He was hitting .291/.326/.507 at the conclusion of that game, but he’d come in at just .189/.250/.221 in 32 games since. Statcast thinks he’s been rather unlucky, but his exit velocity numbers aren’t nearly as good now as in his impressive rookie campaign two years ago. He needs to step it up in the second half to ensure that he remains the Rangers’ third baseman for 2026 and beyond.

Jung takes a seat for the second consecutive game as the Rangers attempt to give him an extended mental break in an effort to pull him out of an extended tailspin at the dish. The 27-year-old third baseman is hitting .172 (10-for-58) with zero homers and 19 strikeouts over his last 15 games. It’ll be Ezequiel Duran at the hot corner on Tuesday night in his absence.

Jung delivered a two-run single off of Simeon Woods Richardson in the fifth inning that extended the Rangers’ lead to 5-2, then scored on a a two-run double by Kyle Higashioka. He also added a two-run double as part of a six-run rally in the eighth inning and scored on a ground out off the bat of Higashioka. With his two-hit evening, the 27-year-old third baseman is now slashing .259/.305/.406 with seven homers, 27 RBI and four swipes in 226 plate appearances on the season.

There haven’t been any rumblings about any sort of injury for the oft-injured third baseman so it looks like just a routine night off. Josh Smith will cover third base in Jung’s absence on Friday night while Alejandro Osuna draws a start as the designated hitter and will bat eighth against Michael Soroka and the Nationals.

Jung may have felt disrespected as the Blue Jays intentionally walked Wyatt Langford with two outs in the eighth inning to pitch to him. He then battled Green to a full count before lining a go-ahead RBI single into center field to give the Rangers the lead. Jung then swiped second base, and an errant throw from Alejandro Kirk allowed Langford to score with a valuable insurance run. The oft-injured 27-year-old third baseman finished the night 1-for-4 and is now hitting .281/.328/.456 with seven homers, 20 RBI and four stolen bases through his first 183 plate appearances on the year.

Jung is now 12-for-29 over his last eight games with four home runs and nine RBI. He’s moved up to third in the batting order and seems to be making good on the upside many people were excited for before his wrist injury last season.

Jung took a fifth-inning pitch from Beau Brieske and hit it 392 feet at 107.4 mph for his fifth home run of the season. He also struck out twice, which has been a bit of an issue for him, and the 27-year-old is just 7-for-35 (.200) so far in May. With Jake Burger rumored to be on his way back to the big leagues, Jung will need to keep hitting to prevent himself from losing some starts to Josh Smith.

Dropped to ninth in the order of late, Jung hasn’t been as bad as that ‘demotion’ would indicate. His power has lagged a bit – this homer was only his third of the season – despite him missing a week with an injury, but he’s barreling the ball better than he ever has in his career and dropped his strikeout rate for what would be the third consecutive season if he keeps it up. He’s a better option than his surface stats, especially in a weak third base landscape.

Jung is back at third base and batting sixth for Monday’s series opener at Globe Life Field following an early exit from Sunday’s showdown against the Giants with a right finger laceration. The fact that he’s already back in the lineup seems to indicate that the Rangers aren’t too concerned, which has to give fantasy managers confidence ahead of weekly lineup locks.

Jung reportedly sustained the injury on a swing in which he shattered his bat, then he appeared to open the wound further while making a bare-handed play in the field. It doesn’t seem like the type of injury that should lead to an extended absence, but with Jung you can never be too sure. Expect the Rangers to provide an update on his status after the game.

Jung hit one of three solo homer for the Rangers in the contest, all off starter J.T. Ginn. The 27-year-old has homered twice in his limited action in 2025, and he’s up to seven RBI over the first 16 games. As long as Jung stays healthy, he should be a solid third base option.

Jung got the Rangers on the board with an RBI single and then blasted a two-run shot off Trent Thornton in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. That’s the first homer of the season, but Jung has been scorching hot since coming off the injured list and is hitting a robust .474/.474/.842.
