Even though Detroit has hit .165/.246/.233 with 35 strikeouts through three games, there are no changes today. Colt Keith is again batting third and DHing, and Kerry Carpenter, who committed an error on a flyball last night, is in right field and leading off. Wenceel Pérez, who started the final 14 games of the regular season and then all three against the Guardians in the Wild Card series, remains on the bench.

After stunning the Mariners in Game 1 in Seattle on Saturday night, Tigers’ skipper A.J. Hinch didn’t feel the need to make any changes to his lineup behind Tarik Skubal in Game 2. Keith has been utilized as the designated hitter in each of the first two games instead of playing in the infield as they’re trying to be cautious with him while returning from the rib injury. Once again, here’s how they’ll lineup against Mariners’ right-hander Luis Castillo on Sunday: Gleyber Torres (2B), Kerry Carpenter (RF), Riley Greene (LF), Spencer Torkelson (1B), Colt Keith (DH), Dillon Dingler (C), Zach McKinstry (3B), Javier Baez (SS) and Parker Meadows (CF).

Keith had been shelved since mid-September due to right rib cage inflammation. His return bumps Wenceel Perez from the Tigers’ starting lineup. Here’s the full look at how the Tigers will line up against Mariners’ right-hander George Kirby on Saturday night in Seattle: Gleyber Torres (2B), Kerry Carpenter (RF), Riley Greene (LF), Spencer Torkelson (1B), Colt Keith (DH), Dillon Dingler (C), Zach McKinstry (3B), Javier Baez (SS) and Parker Meadows (CF).

Keith has been added to Detroit’s roster after missing the club’s Wild Card Series against Cleveland with right rib cage inflammation. The 24-year-old figures to get plenty of opportunities to face Seattle’s righty-heavy rotation. Reliever Brenan Hanifee is the only other new addition with Justyn-Henry Malloy and Paul Sewald being excluded.

How he comes out of that session will likely determine whether or not he’s ready to be included on the Tigers’ roster for their Division Series against the Mariners. Matt Vierling (oblique) will also take batting practice on Friday to see where he’s at. It sounds like the Tigers could soon be getting some reinforcements back to their offense if everything goes well on Friday.

Keith was placed on the injured list with rib cage inflammation on September 19. He is hoping to play in the AL DS, but the Tigers would need to get there first and he will need to clear his final hurdles for recovery.

The Tigers had thought it was a back injury that Keith was dealing with but an MRI exam revealed the rib inflammation. No word yet on how long he’ll be shelved for or if the injury will impact his availability for the postseason. Jace Jung was recalled from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move on Friday.

Keith was diagnosed with back tightness and recently underwent an MRI. He’ll likely miss all of Friday’s game with Zach McKinstry handling third base and hitting eighth.

The original thought was that he hurt his knee colliding with the wall on a foul ball, but he was also spotted grabbing at his back at the end of the second inning. He’s probably still day-to-day.

Keith banged his knee on the wall while chasing a foul popup, and though he stayed in initially, he didn’t come back out for the third. Trey Sweeney replaced him, with Zach McKinstry moving from short to third.

Keith went 7-for-8 stealing bases in a rookie, but he’d tried just one so far this year. The homer was his 11th, four of which have come this month. He’s batting .354/.418/.625 in 55 plate appearances during August.

Keith typically leads off against right-handers, but the Tigers are holding him out against a right-handed opener in Elvin Peguero tonight, knowing that lefty Tyler Alexander awaits as the bulk guy. Kerry Carpenter, on the other hand, is starting, even though he typically joins Keith in sitting versus lefties. The same goes for Zach McKinstry, who is playing shortstop and batting eighth.

Keith collected three hits in Detroit’s victory against the Phillies, including a solo homer off Zack Wheeler in the third inning to put the Tigers on the board. The 23-year-old infielder is slashing .258/.339/.416 with nine homers, 46 runs scored, and 33 RBI across 339 plate appearances.

Once again Keith finds himself situated on the bench with an opposing left-hander on the mound. This time it’ll be Andy Ibanez starting in his place at third base and batting third for the Tigers against Jesus Luzardo and the Phillies on Friday evening.

Keith also scored twice and drove in a run. The 23-year-old forged a .175 OPS in July; a number that isn’t anything close to elite but is good enough to keep him in the lineup more often than not. Keith still feels more like a long-term play than one you can trust as a solid fantasy option for these final two months.

Once again Keith finds himself on the bench with left-hander Jacob Latz taking the hill for the Rangers. Expect him to enter the game for Jahmai Jones once Latz is removed, creating an advantageous matchup against a right-handed arm out of the Rangers’ bullpen.

The Tigers clawed back from an early 2-0 deficit in this one with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings — the second of which was on an RBI single by Keith. Then with two outs in the seventh inning, after Zach McKinstry had walked and swiped a base, the 23-year-old slugger swatted a 1-0 changeup from Edwin Uceta for a 394-foot (101.2 mph EV) game-changing two-run blast. Keith finished the night 2-for-3 plus a walk and is now slashing .269/.350/.450 with eight homers and 30 RBI on the season.

Keith capped off an impressive three-hit performance with a solo shot to right field — his seventh round-tripper of the season — against Rays reliever Paul Gercase in the seventh inning. He’s been on a tear leading up to next week’s All-Star break, hitting .321 (17-for-53) with three homers and seven RBI over his last 15 games.

Keith smacked a one-out triple off of Griffin Jax in the eighth inning and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Gleyber Torres to pull the Tigers to within three runs at 4-1. That would be as close as they would get. On the season, the 23-year-old infielder is now hitting .241/.326/.401 with six homers and 24 RBI on the season.

The Tigers trailed 4-0 heading to the fifth inning where they were able to scratch out two runs off of Paul Skenes. They then put a man on in the seventh inning when Keith somehow clobbered an 0-2 Isaac Matson fastball that was nearly a foot above the strike zone for an opposite-field game-tying 353-foot (93.3 mph EV) two-run shot. Per the venerable Sarah Langs of MLB.com, at 4.22 feet above the ground, it’s the second highest pitch that anyone has hit for a home run this season, and the highest pitch that any Tiger has hit for a home run since pitch tracking began in 2008. Keith also drew a walk in the contest and reached on a fielder’s choice and scored a run in the fifth inning. The 23-year-old infielder finished the night 1-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI and is now hitting .247/.338/.400 with five homers and 22 RBI on the season.

The Tigers struggled to muster up any offense against Zach Eflin and the Orioles in this one. Keith’s double was their only extra-base hit and it drove home their only run. Alas, he’s put a sluggish start of the season behind him with a .797 OPS over his last 30 games.

Keith played third base at Arizona State and in the minors, but this will be the first time he starts at the position in the majors. The 23-year-old has been just so-so with the bat in 2025 with a .712 OPS, but he’s picked it up as of late, and the fact that he will likely have another position of eligibility — assuming this doesn’t go terribly — adds to the potential fantasy intrigue.

Keith has ostensibly split time with Kerry Carpenter at DH since center fielder Parker Meadows returned from the injured list earlier this week. The 23-year-old is expected to see action at the hot corner in the near future as Detroit tries to find creative ways to keep his bat in the lineup without moving Spencer Torkelson off the cold corner.

Keith moved to first base last offseason after spending the previous year at the keystone. He’s played third base in the minors, but has yet to make an appearance there in the big leagues. The added defensive versatility should help get him into the lineup more frequently as opposed to splitting time with Spencer Torkelson at the cold corner.

Keith has batted third against right-handed starters over the last handful of games for Detroit and he’s been productive, hitting .375 (9-for-24) with three homers and seven RBI over his last seven games. The 23-year-old former top prospect struggled mightily in April, but he’s really picked it up since the calendar flipped over to May.

Keith reached on a fielder’s choice in the second inning and raced around to score the game’s first run on a bloop RBI double off the bat of Dillon Dingler. Keith then drove in a run of his own with an RBI single in the fourth inning that plated Riley Greene from second. As a team, the Tigers totaled just three hits in the ballgame, with Keith accounting for two of them. He’s slowly bringing his slash line back to respectability, hitting .229/.357/.375 to go with four homers and 12 RBI.
