Lombard earns a promotion to the doorstep of the majors after hitting .324/.414/.595 with 12 extra-base hits, including four homers, and four steals in 19 games for Double-A Somerset. The 20-year-old former first-round pick is ready to play in the majors right now from a defensive standpoint and could push Anthony Volpe for New York’s starting shortstop job later this summer.

The 20-year-old former first-round pick will open the year in the upper minors and could potentially arrive at Yankee Stadium before the regular season comes to a close.

Valera, who returned from a ruptured patella tendon in July, will make his major league debut after hitting .255/.346/.457 with three homers in 28 games for Columbus. He’ll probably see a fair amount of time against righties as the Guardians try to figure out whether he should be in their plans for 2026. It could mean fewer at-bats for Daniel Schneeman and Angel Martínez.
