Kowar finds himself on the move for the third time since late January. The 29-year-old righty should be able to secure a spot in Baltimore’s bullpen as a low-leverage option after making 15 relief appearances for the Mariners this past season. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.

The 29-year-old hurler was just claimed off of waivers from the Mariners last week, but the Twins needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster to add Anthony Banda on Thursday and Kowar was the odd man out. It’s possible that he could generate interest on waivers once more.

Kowar was designated for assignment last week to make room for Jhonny Pereda. The former first-round pick back in 2018 posted a 4.24 ERA and 15/7 K/BB ratio over 17 innings out of Seattle’s bullpen last season in his first year back from Tommy John. It’s not a bad gamble for the Twins.

There’s no reason to read much into it, but it’s still hilarious that the Rockies, finally having broken away from the old guard on the baseball operations side, are starting off the Paul DePodesta era by signing the son of their long-time GM Dan O’Dowd. Jack never hit as a second baseman and utilityman at the University of Texas, but he excelled in indy ball last season, batting .333/.449/.642 for Billings in the batter friendly Pioneer League. The 24-year-old has also been doing a little catching, though it’s unclear whether the Rockies will go forward with him there.

Kowar pitched in back-to-back games, and the Mariners will go with a fresh arm in the bullpen with Sauryn Lao joining the club. Kowar could be back before the end of the season, but obviously it will be in a role that isn’t relevant to fantasy leagues.

He’ll take the place of the injured Trent Thornton (Achilles) in the Mariners’ bullpen. Kowar, 28, has made nine appearances in the big leagues this season, posting a scintillating 1.54 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and a 9/4 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings.

Kowar, 28, will give the Mariners an added righty in the bullpen for the series against the Angels; a lineup that is predominantly right-handed. He’ll work a middle-inning role in this stint with Seattle.

Kowar returns to the minors to free up a spot on Seattle’s roster for ace Logan Gilbert to return from the injured list. The 28-year-old righty allowed just two runs over 8 2/3 innings (seven appearances) during a brief stint with the club dating back to May 28.
