No word yet on the severity, which will determine how much time Kurtz winds up missing. The 22-year-old top prospect tweaked his hip during Saturday’s extra-inning affair with the Phillies and is likely facing a multi-week absence. The timing is extremely unfortunate for fantasy managers since Kurtz was finally starting to heat up at the dish, hitting .280 (7-for-25) with four homers and nine RBI over seven games prior to the injury. There should be a definitive return timetable at some point this week.

Kurtz will sit out Sunday’s series finale after suffering a left hip flexor during Saturday’s extra-inning affair with the Phillies. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. The 22-year-old top prospect has caught fire recently, hitting .280 (7-for-25) with four homers and nine RBI over his last seven games, after an ice-cold stretch to begin his major-league career. It’ll be Logan Davidson making his first-ever start to face Phillies southpaw Jesús Luzardo.

The A’s are facing a tough lefty in Jesús Luzardo on Sunday, so Kurtz might not have started regardless, especially with the team having Monday off. Logan Davison could fill in for him.

Kurtz, who is hitting .280 (7-for-25) with four homers and nine RBI over his last seven games, downplayed concern to reporters following an early exit from Saturday’s extra-inning marathon against the Phillies. He was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a pair of walks before leaving the game in the 10th inning. Kurtz was riding a six-game hitless streak before getting on base with a single in the second inning. He then went yard for his second home run of the season with a two-run blast in the fourth off Kyle Hendricks. The 22-year-old first baseman is hitting .222/.270/.346 with eight RBI across 89 plate appearances.

Kurtz has nice exit velocity numbers on contact, but he’s struck out 30 times in 81 plate appearances. He needs to do better there, or the A’s might start weighing sending him back down for some additional development time.

It didn’t necessarily have anything to do with his exit, but Kurtz was checked on by the trainer today after jamming his glove hand into Orlando Cabrera’s body on a play at first base. His three at-bats before leaving produced two groundouts and a strikeout.

Kurtz gets the matinee off even with right-hander Bryan Woo on the mound for Seattle. The 22-year-old rookie will take a seat with Seth Brown in the lineup in Kurtz’s absence.

Kurtz has consistently batted near the bottom of the lineup through his first couple weeks in the big leagues, hitting .275 (11-for-40) with one extra-base hit and five RBI through 12 games. It’s a bit concerning that the 22-year-old top prospect isn’t hitting for any semblance of power and striking out a bunch in his first taste of the majors, but it’s not completely unexpected as he acclimates to everyday life in the big leagues less than a calendar year after being drafted.

Kurtz also struck out twice, but this is a reminder that the rookie is going to strike out, but he is also likely to produce some big hits for the A’s. Give him some time to get acclimated.

Kurtz takes a seat with lefty Patrick Corbin on the mound for Monday’s series opener at Globe Life Field. The 22-year-old top prospect is hitting .250 (4-for-16) with three RBI through five games since being promoted last week to the big leagues. Some initial turbulence isn’t unexpected as Kurtz acclimates to life in the majors less than a calendar year after being selected fourth overall in the draft. It’ll be Tyler Soderstrom at the cold corner on Monday night in his place.

Kurtz got his first RBI and first hit in his first at-bat in the first inning. A lot of firsts. The 22-year-old is one of the best hitting prospects in the sport, and while he went hitless in his other three at-bats, he’s absolutely worthy of roster consideration for those who need help in the corner infield.

As expected, Kurtz is not in Tuesday’s lineup. He’s already joined the Athletics at Sutter Health Park for Tuesday’s series opener against the Rangers, but won’t be officially promoted until Wednesday’s contest since veteran lefty Patrick Corbin is on the mound for Texas. Athletics general manager David Forst told reporters that Tyler Soderstrom will see time in left field and at DH when Kurtz is at first base. The 22-year-old top prospect projects as an immediate four-category impact fantasy contributor and should be rostered in all formats.

Kurtz is with the A’s for tonight’s game against the Rangers and Patrick Corbin, but he’s not going to be activated until Wednesday. The A’s haven’t said who is being demoted to make room for him, but fellow left-handed hitter Seth Brown seems like the obvious choice.

It’s happening. Kurtz projects as an immediate four-category impact contributor for fantasy purposes and should be rostered in all formats. The 22-year-old burgeoning slugger controls the strike zone and boasts stratospheric raw power without sacrificing anything from an approach standpoint. He was selected fourth overall in the 2024 MLB Draft and gets the call to the majors after slashing a sublime .321/.385/.655 with seven homers and 24 RBI over 20 games for Triple-A Las Vegas. He’ll take over as the Athletics’ starting first baseman with Brent Rooker heading to the outfield and red-hot Tyler Soderstrom moving to DH. He’ll make his major-league debut on Tuesday night against the division-rival Rangers.

If we’re going to highlight the impressive homers then we can’t ignore a tough performance. The 22-year-old top prospect has gotten off to an exceptional start at the dish this season, hitting .344 (22-for-64) with seven homers and 22 RBI through 15 games. He won’t steal bases, but he’s going to make an immediate four-category impact for fantasy managers once he reaches the big leagues, especially at hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park in Sacramento.

Stop it. Kurtz has gone deep seven times in just 13 games this season and is on the precipice of reaching the big leagues after being selected fourth overall in last year’s MLB Draft. The 22-year-old prodigy’s latest gargantuan homer came just a few hours after the Athletics moved Brent Rooker back into the outfield for the first time in a regular season contest since last May. Kurtz is a strong defender at the cold corner, which makes it likely that Tyler Soderstrom will transition to more of a DH and part-time catcher role to keep his bat in the lineup. He’s close.
