No team was willing to roll the dice on Kavadas, who will remain with Los Angeles since it was the first time he’s been designated for assignment in his career. The 26-year-old first baseman has batted .168 (19-for-113) with four homers, eight RBI and one steal over 40 games at the major-league level over the past two seasons.

The Angels needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster on Friday night and unfortunately Kavadas was the odd-man out this time around. It seems likely that the 26-year-old first baseman will pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra depth for the Halos.

With Logan Davidson arriving to take a place on the Angels’ active roster on Thursday, someone needed to be sent out and it looks like Kavadas drew the short straw this time around. The 26-year-old first baseman has hit just .100 (2-for-20) with a 10/3 K/BB ratio in 23 plate appearances with the Halos this season.

The 26-year-old will add depth to the Angels’ bench with Mike Trout (knee) landing on the injured list on Friday. Kavadas was off to a decent start at Triple-A Salt Lake, slashing .248/.376/.450 with five homers and 20 RBI in his first 29 games. He’s unlikely to see enough playing time to warrant consideration for fantasy purposes.
