Kwan was a late scratch from Saturday’s lineup due to stiffness in his neck, it appears to have been only a minor issue though. He’s back in center field and perched atop the Guardians’ lineup for Sunday’s matchup against Jays’ left-hander Patrick Corbin.

Angel Martínez takes over in center field and will hit leadoff on Saturday afternoon in his place. It sounds like a precautionary move since Kwan also sat out Friday’s series opener, but was in Saturday’s initial lineup. The 28-year-old outfielder is hitting .227/.315/.289 with one homer, eight RBI and two steals in 25 games. There should be some additional clarity on his status at some point this weekend. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

It’s Kwan’s first missed start of the season, as he’d played at least seven innings in each of Cleveland’s first 25 games. He’s hitting .227/.315/.289 in the early going and hasn’t had a multi-hit game since April 16. Angel Martinez is in left field for the Guardians tonight against RHP Max Scherzer.

Kwan smacked an RBI single off of Shane Baz in the fifth inning that increased the Guardians’ lead to 3-0. The 28-year-old outfielder is now hitting .253/.325/.333 with one homer, seven RBI, two stolen bases and a 9/7 K/BB ratio over his first 84 plate appearances on the season.

Kwan will get a breather against southpaw Chris Sale and the Atlanta staff. Angel Martinez moves up to the leadoff spot in Kwan’s absence and play left field. It’s Kwan’s first off-day of the season, and likely one of the last.

Kwan’s homer left the bat at 100.8 mph for just his second hard-hit ball in 47 plate appearances this season. His previous one barely clearled the threshold at 95.8 mph. Of course, Kwan has never been known for his hard-hit rates, but he’s been losing athleticism since the day he entered the league and it’s actually quite odd that the Guardians have decided this was the time to turn to him as a center fielder (he debuted with 80th percentile sprint speed in 2022, but he was down to 45th percentile last year and is in the 32nd percentile so far this season). His fantasy value would also seem to be trending downwards.

Kwan is still without a hard-hit ball in 22 at-bats this year, but he has mustered seven hits anyway. With his bat speed and his foot speed decreasing, he’s likely past his peak both for the Guardians and as a fantasy outfielder. Still, he should offer some mixed-league value anyway,

Kwan hasn’t started a regular season game in center field since his rookie year. He slid to that spot exactly one time last season and played there a good bit during spring training ahead of this season, hinting that this was something the Guardians were considering. He’s an exceptional outfielder so there’s no reason to think he can’t be at least passable there. Kwan playing center will open up left field for CJ Kayfus in this game as the Guardians try to get some more thump in their lineup.

Kwan had totaled two homers in 98 career spring training games prior to today, when he took Ryan Bergert and Nick Mears deep in back-to-back at-bats. The 28-year-old appeared to be a likely choice to replace Corbin Carroll on Team USA’s WBC roster before Roman Anthony got the nod instead. He’s 6-for-21 this spring.

Kwan is a Gold Glove winner in left field, but moving to center field could help the Guardians put their best offense on the field. That would open up left field for George Valera with Chase DeLauter playing right field. All three bat left-handed, so the alignment would obviously change versus left-handed pitchers, but this feels like a likely outcome if Kwan looks good enough in center field.

Kwan won a Gold Glove this year and hit .272/.330/.374 with 11 home runs and 21 steals in 156 games. His modest power surge from 2024 didn’t quite carry over, nor did his nearly .300 batting average, but he tied his career high in steals and remains a very solid outfielder.

Kwan started a three-run rally in the sixth inning with a bunt single off of Tigers’ ace Tarik Skubal. He ultimately scored on an infield single off the bat of Jose Ramirez. Kwan then doubled with two outs in the seventh inning and scored on a two-run single by Daniel Schneemann. With his two-hit attack, the 28-year-old is now hitting .277/.336/.383 with 11 homers, 55 RBI and 21 stolen bases across 672 plate appearances.

Kwan was on base three times and scored twice against the Rays on Friday. The 28-year-old outfielder is a solid producer with a .274 average, 70 runs scored, 10 home runs, 14 steals and 46 RBI. Kwan’s average is down from his .292 average last year and that’s stopped him from having a repeat of last year.

Kwan spearheaded a relentless offensive onslaught against Boston’s bullpen in this one as they scored seven runs over the first two frames to ostensibly put the contest away early. The 27-year-old table-setter, who has been mired in a weeks-long tailspin at the dish, reached base safely in three of his five plate appearances out of the leadoff spot. It’s encouraging to see some signs of life.

Kwan’s slump is over two months old at this point, and it’s actually getting worse; in his last 13 games, he is batting .189 and is even 0-for-2 stealing bases. Playing through an injury would seem to be the obvious explanation, because it’d be very discouraging if he were performing like this while healthy.

After watching Xavier Edwards and Jakob Marsee homer in the top of the first, Kwan hit a lead-off blast in the bottom half of that inning. That wouldn’t be nearly enough though as the Marlins poured on 13 runs in total. The homer was Kwan’s 10th, just four off his career-best 14 from last season.

Kwan had an .813 OPS through the end of May, but he came in at .683 in June and .699 in July and he’s at just .396 through 10 games this month. He’s also gone 37 straight games without a steal after collecting 11 in his first 78 games. There’s a chance for him to turn it around, but he’s been a mediocre player for the Guardians and a fantasy bust of late.

Kwan led off the fourth inning with a single off of Clay Holmes and came around to score the Guardians’ first run on an RBI knock off the bat of Kyle Manzardo. He then delivered the biggest hit of the night with a go-ahead two-out RBI single off of Tyler Rogers in the seventh that proved to be the difference in the ballgame. With his two-hit attack, the 27-year-old professional hitter is now slashing .285/.346/.400 with nine long balls, 39 RBI and 11 stolen bases on the season.

There’s been plenty of talk about the Guardians being willing to move Kwan, but now it sounds like it’s a priority; perhaps in an effort to “sell high” on the outfielder. Bieber also makes sense as a player who makes money for a team that doesn’t like spending it and is on the outskirts of contention. The right-hander is returning from Tommy John surgery and has completed four rehab starts, so he could help a team for the playoff push. He also has a $16 million club options and $4 million buyout for 2026.

Kwan has been “drawing a ton of interest...with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres believed to be among the teams in the mix.” He’s earning just $4.175 million this season and has two more years of club control, but the Guardians are unlikely to sign him when he becomes a free agent, so they will eventually trade him away and try to recoup value rather than losing him on the market for free. Whether that comes this week, over the offseason, or next trade deadline is anybody’s guess, but the countdown has begun.

A trade still doesn’t seem especially likely. Even if the Guardians are out of it this year, a Kwan trade would be a major blow to their chances of contending in 2026 and 2027, something that should give them serious pause. Moving on from their second-best player as they threaten to waste what will probably be José Ramírez’s final years as an elite player just doesn’t seem like a good idea.

Both homers from Kwan came off Charlie Morton, and both were solo shots. He also drew a walk to improve his slash .287/.353/.410 while upping his homer total to eight with 35 RBI. The 27-year-old has been the subject of trade rumors, but it seems very unlikely he’ll be playing anywhere but Cleveland for the remainder of 2025. One can’t help but wonder what he could do at the top of a better lineup, however.

Kwan gave Cleveland the lead with a two-out, tie-breaking single to left in the eighth inning. The 27-year-old All-Star left fielder was linked to the Padres and Phillies in a report earlier on Wednesday from Jon Heyman of the New York Post, but it would take a significant haul to pry him from the Guardians, especially since he’s under club control through 2027.

Kwan is back atop Cleveland’s lineup following a three-game absence recovering from a lingering right wrist issue that required an anti-inflammatory injection during last week’s All-Star break. It’s an encouraging sign that he’s feeling ready to return without requiring a trip to the injured list.

Kwan will sit out his third consecutive contest after receiving an anti-inflammatory injection during the All-Star break to address a lingering right wrist injury. The 27-year-old outfielder figures to be ready to return for Monday’s series opener against the Orioles, but that’s not a lock at the moment.

Kwan will sit out his second straight contest after receiving an anti-inflammatory injection during the All-Star break to address a lingering right wrist injury. The 27-year-old outfielder might wind up sitting out a few additional games, but we’re not forecasting an extended absence. It’ll be Nolan Jones taking over in left field on Saturday afternoon in his absence.

MLB.com’s Tim Stebbins reports Kwan received an injection during the All-Star break to address a lingering right wrist issue. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern, but there’s a chance he needs some additional time off this weekend to put the issue to bed. The 27-year-old All-Star outfielder should be ready to roll in a couple days, but fantasy managers should keep a close eye on his status for now.

Kwan will get a day off to open the second half of the season against the A’s. The 27-year-old rests with Nolan Jones handling left field and hitting fifth against southpaw JP Sears. Kwan should be back to hitting at the top of the lineup Saturday.
