The cycle continues. Lawrence has been shuttled on-and-off Seattle’s roster for the last couple months. The 37-year-old journeyman figures to return at some point in the near future as an emergency stopgap option for the Mariners.

Lawrence was designated for assignment last week and sent outright to Triple-A Tacoma, but he’ll rejoin the big league bullpen on Thursday evening. The 37-year-old hurler holds a 4.08 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and a 7/1 K/BB ratio over 17 2/3 innings at the big league level this season.

Casey Lawrence was recalled to follow opener Casey Legumina as the bulk pitcher in Tuesday’s contest against the White Sox. He tossed a scoreless inning before Chicago brought a run in to score in the third on a pair of hits. Lawrence settled in for three more scoreless frames, scattering six hits in all while striking out two. The 37-year-old right-hander will likely return to the minors with George Kirby’s imminent return.

He’s back. Again. Lawrence has been on-and-off Seattle’s roster several times already this season and figures to continue lurking on the periphery of the club’s pitching mix until further notice. The 37-year-old journeyman will make a bulk relief appearance on Tuesday night against the White Sox in Chicago. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.

Casey Legumina will serve as an opener against the White Sox before Lawrence takes over. With George Kirby on the way back, Lawrence could be DFA’d after the game.

The saga continues. Lawrence has bounced between the Blue Jays and Mariners for what seems like an eternity, and after being waived by Toronto last week, he elected free agency and returned to Seattle. It’s anyone’s guess as to how long he stays with the Mariners until he returns to the Jays.

Lawrence has been the victim of the DFA several times in his career, and a few of them in 2025. He was just claimed off waivers from the Mariners, and the 37-year-old will hit the wire again. If he goes unclaimed, he can report to Triple-A or elect free agency.

Lawrence had already cleared waivers twice this month, but the Jays decided to bring him back to provide some innings for his original organization. He’s out of options — he is 37 after all — so he’ll be added to the major league roster on Tuesday, and he might get a start this week with Easton Lucas demoted. Lawrence had a 3.60 ERA and a 4/1 K/BB in 10 innings for the Mariners.

Of course they did. It’s just what they do. Lawrence threw five innings while allowing 10 hits and eight runs — two earned — after Logan Gilbert was removed with his flexor strain. Lawrence will likely go unclaimed and either report back to Triple-A or elect free agency.

Lawrence came in to pitch after Logan Gilbert after Gilbert left with forearm tightness, and while he obviously had some defensive gaffes behind him, he showed why he’s been designated for assignment a time or dozen. The 37-year-old will likely be designated for assignment again to make room on the 40-man roster for a fresh arm.

Lawrence has been shuttled back-and-forth between Seattle’s bullpen and Triple-A Tacoma in recent weeks, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him stick around as emergency relief depth after clearing waivers.

The 37-year-old Lawrence picked up his fifth career win after allowing two runs over three innings on Wednesday, but it proved to be his lone appearance for the Mariners. He should clear waivers, and though he’ll be eligible for free agency, there’s a good chance he’ll stay put.
