Legumina was designated for assignment on Tuesday and the Mariners were apparently able to find a trade partner. Tampa Bay Times’ Marc Topkin reports the Mariners are reacquiring RHP Ty Cummings from the Mariners. Legumina posted a 5.62 ERA in 48 outings for the Mariners last year and was at 4.63 in eight outings this year, but he has struck out 82 batters in 83.1 career MLB innings.

Legumina has been booted from Seattle’s relief mix after posting a pedestrian 4.63 ERA and 9/3 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings across eight appearances this season. The 28-year-old should attract some interest on waivers as quality middle relief depth. He’s made 73 career appearances in the majors between the Mariners and Reds since 2023.

The Mariners reinstated Logan Evans from the injured list on Sunday and needed to clear a spot in the bullpen in order to do so. Unfortunately for Legumina, he was the odd man out this time around. The 28-year-old hurler has posted a 5.62 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and a 55/25 K/BB ratio over 49 2/3 innings in 48 appearances with the M’s.

Legumina has already made 45 appearances out of the Mariners’ bullpen this season, posting a 5.79 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a 51/23 K/BB ratio over 46 2/3 innings of work. He’ll return to a middle relief role for manager Dan Wilson. José Castillo was designated for assignment in a corresponding move on Friday.

Legumina was lit up for five runs over two innings Monday, so he’ll pay the price and head back to Tacoma. The 28-year-old will very likely be back with Seattle before 2025 comes to a close.
