Lauer was supposed to lose his rotation spot to Trey Yesavage this week, but Max Scherzer’s IL stint gained him a reprieve, and he was successful while going through Boston’s lineup twice today, even though he allowed nine hard-hit balls and struck out just one in the process. Of course, he didn’t qualify for the win, even though he left with a 5-1 lead. That went to Brandon Fisher in relief. Lauer will likely start again next week against the Rays.

Lauer, apparently being held together by some blue tape on the back of his neck, had very little on his fastball at the beginning of today’s outing, averaging just 88 mph in his first two innings. He did get back up close to 90 mph afterwards, though he also gave up all three runs during his final three innings of work. The last was on a homer to Mike Trout, who he probably shouldn’t have been allowed to face a third time. With Trey Yesavage on the way back, Lauer, who has a 6.75 ERA in 22 2/3 innings, could head to the pen next week.

Lauer had better velocity tonight, with his fastball climbing 1.3 mph from his season mark of 90.2 mph. Still, he gave up a homer in his third inning of work and two runs on a walk and three singles in his fourth inning. He’s 1-3 with a 7.13 ERA, and he’s probably looking at getting bumped back to middle relief at the end of this month or in early May. First, he figures to start or again work behind an opener Wednesday against the Angels.

In theory it gets Lauer a better chance of a win, but it’s hard to recommend Lauer against the Diamondbacks in fantasy leagues considering the 9/12 BB:K ratio and 7.82 ERA.

Lauer’s velocity still wasn’t quite back to where he was in his first start after pitching through an illness his last time out, sitting 90.2 mph on Saturday. He tossed a pair of scoreless innings before unraveling in the third. Brooks Lee got to him with a solo homer to lead off the frame. Five straight batters would reach safely to bring in three more runs and leave two runners on for Trevor Larnach, who launched a three-run homer to make it a seven-run inning. Lauer came back with two more scoreless innings and recorded the first out in the sixth before departing at 95 pitches. The 30-year-old left-hander is in line to take on the Diamondbacks in Arizona on Friday.

Lauer was pushed back from Saturday to today because of the illness, but he still didn’t seem to be up to par, as his fastball was down about two mph from last week. With any luck, he’ll be back to full strength against the Twins next weekend.

Instead of opposing Anthony Kay on Saturday, he’ll square off with Davis Martin on Sunday. Either way, Lauer’s probably worth a stream in 14-team leagues against a 1-5 White Sox team that has been held to two runs or less in four of their first six games of the year.

The Blue Jays struck out 14 on the day, and one has to wonder if the A’s are going to break every strikeout record — the bad kind — by Memorial Day. That’s taking nothing away from Lauer, who was excellent. He generated 17 swings and misses, and the only two runs he allowed came on a homer by Max Muncy in the fifth. Lauer has not shown this kind of bat-missing ability in the past, but he’ll try and replicate it against the lowly White Sox next weekend.

Lauer earns his spot in Toronto’s season-opening rotation with rookie sensation Trey Yesavage (shoulder) along with veterans Shane Bieber (forearm) and José Berríos (elbow) heading to the injured list. Big-ticket offseason acquisition Dylan Cease will get the ball following Opening Day starter Kevin Gausman. It’ll be Cody Ponce and Max Scherzer rounding out the initial rotation.

With the Blue Jays being really cautious about the early season workload for Trey Yesavage, who has still yet to throw in a big league spring training game, it seems most likely that Lauer and Yesavage will work in tandem for the final spot in the rotation. However, these comments, also make it possible that Lauer could simply take that spot with Yesavage beginning of the year in the minor leagues to continue ramping up. Regardless, Lauer is probably worth drafting in deeper formats right now.

The first four batters reached against Lauer on three singles and a HBP. He retired five in a row from there, but the damage was done. A nice surprise in 15 starts and 13 relief appearances for the Jays last year, Lauer seems likely to spend most of 2026 pitching in middle relief with the team adding Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce and bringing back Max Scherzer.

Lauer threw 104 2/3 innings in 2025, managing a 3.18 ERA in 28 appearances while going 9-2. He was often used with an opener in 2025 and struggled to hit five innings, making him an unlikely source of wins in 2026. Still, Lauer is talented enough to remain on the mixed-league streamer radar.

Lauer came on after Louis Varland set down the first six Red Sox’ hitters in order. Lauer recorded a pair of strikeouts in the ballgame. He then passed the combined bid for a perfect game onto Yariel Rodriguez and then Braydon Fisher who ultimately gave up a leadoff double to Jarren Duran to open the seventh inning. Lauer has done a very nice job for the Jays this season, compiling a 9-2 record, 3.21 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and a 101/26 K/BB ratio over 103 2/3 innings in 27 appearances (15 starts).

The Jays must not be worried much about Max Scherzer’s back, as he’s scheduled to start Saturday. Lauer has been terrific for the Jays this season, but he did give up eight runs — six earned — in 4 2/3 innings last time out against the Twins. He’s 8-2 with a 3.21 ERA in 15 starts and six relief appearances this season.

Ouch. Lauer returned to the Blue Jays staff to make a six-man rotation since they are in the midst of a stretch with 14 games in 15 days. This was supposed to be a soft landing spot against a Twins lineup that only has a handful of major league-caliber hitters in it, but he got crushed. Byron Buxton took him deep twice and the Twins had four total homers plus 11 hard-hit balls among just 19 total balls in play. It’s unknown when his next turn in the rotation will be.

Shane Bieber is slotting into Lauer’s spot on Friday, but it sounds like the Jays will use six starters at times the rest of the season. Lauer has been the team’s most effective stater in going 6-1 with a 3.05 ERA since getting a spot in mid-June. The Jays are 11-3 when he starts this season.

Lauer surrendered just one run to the Rangers on a walk and a base hit in the third inning. He’d start the sixth inning and walked the leadoff man before his day was done at 102 pitches with four strikeouts. The 30-year-old left-hander now holds a 2.76 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and an 87/25 K/BB ratio across 88 innings. He’ll take on the Marlins in Miami next Saturday.

The 30-year-old southpaw also issued four walks on the day while recording four strikeouts. He gave up a pair of runs in the opening inning on solo home runs by Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman. He then walked Freeman with the bases loaded in the second inning to force in another run. Lauer got just six swings and misses on 71 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 27 percent. He’ll look to put this one behind him and bounce back as he carries a 2.82 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and an 83/22 K/BB ratio (83 innings) into Saturday’s battle against the Rangers.

Lauer came into this one 0-6 with a 12.43 ERA in seven career starts at Coors. He’d allowed 40 runs — 33 earned — over 23 1/3 innings. This, however, seems to be an improved version of the old Lauer, largely thanks to the gains he’s made with his cutter. Of course, it’s also a hideous Rockies offense that he was facing. Lauer is now 7-2 with a 2.59 ERA, which is one reason the Jays are in no big hurry to activate Shane Bieber. He’ll face the Dodgers next.

Lauer departed a tie game after a fairly typical performance for him this year. Since joining the Jays rotation on June 6, he’s made nine starts and allowed two runs five times, one run three times and three runs once. He’ll pitch in Coors Field next week, but that’s not so scary, given the state of the Rockies lineup.

The 30-year-old southpaw punched out six batters on the night and didn’t allow a single base on balls. The only blemish on his day came on a solo home run off the bat of Jahmai Jones in the opening inning. Aside from that, he was brilliant. Lauer generated eight swings and misses on 97 pitches on the evening, registering a strong CSW of 34 percent. He’ll look to keep the good times rolling as he carries a 2.61 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and a 71/16 K/BB ratio (69 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Orioles in Baltimore.

Lauer actually faced just two over the minimum today; Willy Adames homered off him in the fifth, and the Giants scored once more on a leadoff double and two flyballs in the sixth. Those were the only two hits, and there were no walks. It’s just the second time in nine starts that Lauer has been given a chance to finish six innings. The Jays seems to be increasingly confident in him, and it’s easy to see why, as he’s now 5-2 with a 2.80 ERA and a 26% strikeout rate. He’s a mixed-league option at this point, but he’s not a great play with the Tigers next on the schedule.

The Jays had a rain-shortened complete game last night and have Thursday off, so they were extra aggressive with the pen today and pulled Lauer after 68 pitches. Of course, they’ve tended to employ a quick hook here anyway; even though Lauer has been plenty effective, he’s completed five innings in only three of his eight starts and never in five outings as a bulk guy. Lauer took the loss today, so he closes out the first half 4-2 with a 2.78 ERA.

Lauer gave up three hits, walked one and struck out six. The 30-year-old left-hander cruised through the first six innings, but allowed two hits to start the seventh inning. Reliever Nick Sandlin allowed a game-tying three-run home run to Jo Adell, the first batter he faced. Lauer has a 51/15 K/BB and 2.65 ERA in 51 innings over seven starts this year. His 4.02 xFIP suggests that ERA is due to regress. Lauer is lined up to face the White Sox next week.

Lauer took a 5-2 lead into the fifth before giving up two doubles and a single with one out. Because of some shoddy baserunning, the Red Sox scored only one run in the sequence, and Yariel Rodríguez stranded two after taking over. Lauer’s win-loss record remained 2-1 as a starter, but the Jays are now 6-1 in his starts, with the only loss being a 3-1 game against the Rays. He’s still probably not a mixed-league guy, at least not unless the Jays starting using an opener for him. He’s due to face the Angels next.

After completing five innings for the first time in his last start against the Diamondbacks, Lauer again had his longest outing of the season tonight, striking out five and walking three. He’ll be retaining his spot in the Toronto rotation with Max Scherzer back, though there’s a good chance he’ll wind up back in the pen at some point. He’ll make his next start Sunday in Boston.

The left-hander walked one, struck out eight, and posted a 31 percent whiff rate and 36 percent CSW. Lauer only needed 75 pitches to get through five innings, and did most of his damage with the four-seam fastball, which induced six whiffs and got seven called strikes. In deeper formats, you can see if Lauer can keep it rolling against the Guardians next week.

The Jays didn’t trust Lauer to finish the fifth with a 5-2 lead. In posting a 2.37 ERA in nine appearances for the Jays, he’s pitched at least three innings seven times, but he’s never completed five innings, which means he really needs to work behind an opener to have much chance of getting a win. The victory today wound up going to Spencer Turnbull, who threw scoreless sixth and seventh innings. The Jays have off days tomorrow and Monday, so Lauer probably won’t be needed again for a while.

The 29-year-old southpaw allowed just one hit and one walk on the afternoon while racking up five strikeouts. He took over after José Ureña had faced the Mariners’ lineup one time through and absolutely dominated for the next 4 2/3 innings. Lauer got six swings and misses on 63 pitches on the afternoon, posting a solid CSW of 29 percent. He’ll probably function in a similar capacity his next time out against the Tigers in Toronto next weekend, making him an interesting streaming option in the deepest of mixed leagues and AL-only formats.

Lauer is up and the expectation is he’ll throw multiple innings during Wednesday’s battle against the Red Sox. The 29-year-old takes the roster spot of Casey Lawrence, who was designated for assignment in a corresponding transaction.
