Latz struck out six and walked none in his final attempt to add to his case for a spot in next year’s rotation. He finishes up with a 2.72 ERA over 39 2/3 innings in eight starts to go along with a 2.93 ERA in 25 relief appearances. One imagines the Rangers will add at least one starter alongside Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi and Jack Leiter, which could leave one spot for Latz, Kumar Rocker and anyone else who might step up.

Latz was pulled after giving up the first run of the game in the fifth. With one out and a man on third, Juan Soto hit a grounder down the first base line. Rowdy Tellez grabbed it and then tried for the double play by tagging first and throwing home. He nearly pulled it off, too, but Francisco Alvarez just beat the tag. Even though the bases were empty with two outs at that point, Latz still got pulled. His latest nice effort has him sporting a 2.25 ERA over 20 innings in four starts since he moved from the pen to the rotation. He’ll probably face the Marlins next weekend, and if he does, he’ll be a nice streaming play. However, it’s not assured that he’ll start, since the Rangers do have two days off coming up and Tyler Mahle due back from the IL.

Latz has made six starts and 23 relief appearances for the Rangers, but this was just his second decision, both of them wins. He’s 1-0 with a 2.73 ERA and a 24/11 K/BB over 29 2/3 innings in his six starts. Latz doesn’t have a true standout offering, but his 92-96 mph fastball has been really effective this year. He has a good case for remaining in the rotation after Tyler Mahle returns this weekend, but the Rangers might think he’d be more valuable out of the pen.

Latz shut the D-Backs out over five innings before issuing two walks with one out in the sixth. He’d leave both runners on the bases as he was relieved on the mound at 71 pitches. Both inherited runners would end up scoring. Latz struck out one. The 29-year-old left-hander ends the day with a 3.15 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and a 62/31 K/BB ratio across 68 2/3 innings. He’s in line for a matchup against the Brewers in Texas on Monday.

Latz, who struck out five, should have been done after four in his first start in five weeks and third of the year, but the Rangers wanted to try to get him a win with an 11-1 lead after four. He went on to give up a Christian Moore homer before being lifted at 66 pitches. He’s expected to remain in the rotation in Nathan Eovaldi’s place, and he could be a streaming option at times in September. However, since he’s not really stretched out yet, it probably doesn’t make much sense to use him next week against the Diamondbacks.

Latz provides the Rangers with some additional long relief depth heading into Wednesday’s bullpen game in place of an injured Jacob deGrom, who is dealing with shoulder fatigue. The 29-year-old southpaw has posted a respectable 3.23 ERA across 55 2/3 innings (25 appearances, three starts) this season in the big leagues.

Latz has exceeded the most optimistic of expectations this season with a sparkling 3.23 ERA and 52/27 K/BB ratio across 55 2/3 innings (25 appearances, three starts) this season in the big leagues. Unfortunately, there isn’t a spot for him with the Rangers after a flurry of moves at the trade deadline.

The 29-year-old hurler punched out three batters on the night while issuing a pair of walks. The only blemish on his day came on an RBI single off the bat of Zach McKinstry in the second inning — though with Tarik Skubal on the other side that was almost enough to hang a loss on Latz. He got 10 swings and misses on 84 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 25 percent. He’ll tote an impressive 2.89 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 51/23 K/BB ratio (53 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Braves.

Latz has been a multi-inning option for the Rangers, but hasn’t made many traditional starts. He’s been effective when given the chance, however, and took a no-hitter into the seventh against the Orioles in his last one. The Tigers are a tough opponent, but those who feel like taking a “risk” could do worse than Latz.

Latz was in the pen 10 days ago before suddenly being extended to throw 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball as a bulk guy last time out against the Royals. He started tonight and got through six hitless with two walks before giving up a single to Ramón Laureano and a walk to open the seventh. He was lifted then in favor of Chris Martin, who proceeded to give up homers to three consecutive batters to blow a 4-0 lead. Latz finished with four strikeouts and 11 whiffs. Although he allowed seven hard-hit balls, five of them in excess of 103 mph, it was a 74-mph grounder up the middle that ended the no-hitter. We wouldn’t recommend picking up Latz, but this has been quite an impressive run. He’s not necessarily due to make another start with Nathan Eovaldi coming back, but the Rangers could certainly make room for him if they wanted to.

It’ll ostensibly be another spot start for Latz with Nathan Eovaldi (triceps) set to return from the injured list later this week. The 29-year-old lefty is stretched out enough to handle at least a couple frames against the Orioles. He’s not a recommended streaming option for fantasy managers.

Latz figured to be more of an opener in his second big-league start and first in 2021, but since he struck out six and faced the minimum through three innings, the Rangers stuck with him. That turned out to be the wrong call; the fourth started with a homer, a strikeout and a walk before Latz was pulled during a visit with the trainer. The word after the game was that he had a cut on his thumb, though it was also the case that the Rangers were eager to lift him when they did and that reliever Jacob Webb had only just started warming up. Latz’s seven strikeouts topped his previous career high by three. He’ll likely head back to the bullpen now, but it’s possible he could start once more against the White Sox next weekend.

Latz fortifies Texas’ bullpen depth with an additional long reliever ahead of Wednesday’s game against the division-rival Angels. The 29-year-old southpaw made a career-high 46 relief appearances last year as one of the club’s key middle relievers, but didn’t make last month’s season-opening roster.
