The Diamondbacks have struggled to get Lawlar on the field consistently in the infield, so this move is noteworthy. The team has Ketel Marte locked in at second base and just signed shortstop Geraldo Perdomo to a multi-year deal. With Blaze Alexander showing intriguing upside at third base, the Diamondbacks may be exploring the idea of turning the page on Alek Thomas and playing Jordan Lawlar in centerfield. It will be a situation to monitor in Spring Training.

Incredibly, Lawlar didn’t play Saturday in the D-backs’ first game after being eliminated. The start today was his first in a week and first in the field in two weeks. He actually wound up hitting .308 with seven doubles and two steals in 44 plate appearances this month. Still, Torey Lovullo doesn’t think he’s ready defensively right now, and at this point, it’s hard not to assume that Blaze Alexander will open 2026 at third base for Arizona.

Lovullo added that Lawlar, who has committed five errors in 11 games this season between shortstop and third base, has some defensive improvements that need to be made. We’re anticipating those will be addressed in the offseason as the 23-year-old top prospect remains one of the organization’s core long-term building blocks.

Being 0-for-30 and getting lifted for defense seems like a bad spot to be in. Lawlar, a shortstop still learning the finer points of third base, is 0-for-11 with eight strikeouts since being recalled Friday, but the D-backs will surely stick with him, and there’s still a chance he’ll offer some mixed league value the rest of the way, The 23-year-old has hit .328/.414/.576 in 91 career Triple-A games; he won’t remain this overmatched for long.

With Pavin Smith (quad) landing on the injured list on Friday, Lawlar finally gets another opportunity to show what he can do at the big league level. The 23-year-old slashed .313/.403/.564 with 11 homers, 50 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 300 plate appearances at Triple-A Reno. Fantasy managers can only hope that he finally gets everyday at-bats over the final month of the season to show that he belongs at the game’s highest level. If that happens, he may end up being an impact addition.

Lawlaer had missed multiple weeks with a hamstring strain, but is back in the lineup now and has gone 11-for-36 with one home run and five RBI in eight games since returning to the lineup. The Diamondbacks will likely want to see him play consecutive games in the field before calling him up to the big league roster, but with Eugenio Suarez no longer in town, Lawlar looks like the favorite for third base reps, perhaps beginning in September.

Lawlar had been out since the end of June with a strained hamstring. He played third base last night and figures to mostly stay there as the D-backs groom him as Eugenio Suárez’s replacement. The current plan is probably for something like a Sept. 1 promotion, but maybe he could speed that up by getting off to a hot start.

It sounds like the team plans to take a very cautious approach with their prized 22-year-old infielder and that he could wind up missing up to a month’s worth of action while recovering. Any fantasy managers that have been stashing him in redraft leagues in the hopes that he would be getting the call soon can safely cut bait.

Lawlar is one of the game’s very best prospects, but his frequent injuries are a cause for concern. If he can stay healthy, he could have some mixed-league value over the final two months should the Diamondbacks opt to sell and trade Eugenio Suárez.

The double was hit 113.3 mph, which is a new high EV for him in tracked games. It also was the high mark for all Triple-A hitters Thursday. Lawlar is batting .286/.408/.603 with four homers and five steals in 15 games since the Diamondbacks returned him to Triple-A.

Lawlar is back in Triple-A and right back where he left off. At some point, he’s going to get a shot at full-time playing time at the big league level, but it seems like the Diamondbacks would need to fall out of contention this year for that to happen.

Lawlar didn’t get much of a chance to shine, but he didn’t pick up a hit in his limited action in the majors and Arizona will wisely move him back to an everyday role. The 22-year-old will be replaced by Ildemaro Vargas on the active roster. Fantasy managers can cut bait on Lawlar in redraft leagues, but there’s still enormous fantasy upside in the long-term.

The second error should have been particularly costly, but it led to only one run after Zac Gallen rebounded to retire three straight batters and strand runners on second and third. Lawlar now has three errors and zero hits in 22 plate appearances and eight games since being called up. He did make a bid for a meaningless homer late in a 10-0 game today, but it went just foul. It’s possible the Diamondbacks will send him down soon and add Nicky Lopez as a utilityman.

Lawlar has started only four times in 13 games since being called up back on May 12. The 22-year-old top prospect, who has gone 0-for-13 at the dish, simply isn’t playing enough to make any sort of fantasy impact. It’s a frustrating situation since he’s one of the most talented prospects in the game and projects as a power/speed impact contributor in an everyday role.

This doesn’t seem to be working. Lawlar is 0-for-13 with seven strikeouts in 13 days since being called up. The only complete game he played was in his second day with the Diamondbacks. He’s made three more starts since, but he’s been lifted for a pinch-hitter in all of them, and just once has he appeared off the bench. There’s still a good chance Lawlar is ready to contribute, but the Diamondbacks just don’t have a real need for it right now.

With shortstop Geraldo Perdomo in the midst of a career year and second baseman Ketel Marte playing at an MVP-caliber level, there simply isn’t a regular spot for Lawlar at the highest level between those middle infield spots. The 22-year-old top prospect gets onto the lineup card with veteran Eugenio Suárez receiving his first day off since April 20.

Lawlar has started only twice in seven games since returning to the majors last week. He’s gone hitless in eight at-bats during that span. The 22-year-old top prospect possesses sky-high potential, but he’s simply not playing enough to make any sort of fantasy impact. It’s a frustrating situation for fantasy managers, but Lawlar is the type of talent worth rostering in extremely deep mixed leagues and NL-only formats based solely on his upside.

Lawlar’s hitless outings drops his batting average to an otherworldly .369 mark through 30 games this season at the Triple-A level. The 22-year-old top prospect has been spending time at both second and third base in recent weeks as the Diamondbacks attempt to get him comfortable at multiple defensive spots to open up additional avenues for playing time. He’s likely to arrive in a versatile multi-positional role at some point in the coming weeks and should make a five-category impact for fantasy purposes. He’s one of the few top prospects left in the minors that fantasy managers should be stashing in all formats.
