Lowe made up for Sunday’s performance, when he struck out three times with a combined eight men on base in the loss to the Rays. He’s hit .286/.386/.429 with two homers and 15 RBI in 29 games since joining the Red Sox.

Congrats to Nathaniel and his growing family. Lowe will have to miss the next three games, which includes Thursday’s game against Cade Povich that he would have been on the bench for anyway. Expect the Red Sox to use Romy Gonzalez and Rob Refsnyder at first base in the short-term.

Lowe wasn’t in the team’s starting lineup with a left-hander on the mound for the Yankees, but he still made an impact off the bench. Lowe came on as a pinch-hitter with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth inning and lined a two-run single into center — accounting for all of the Red Sox’ offense in the game. He also led off the ninth inning with a single. He has clearly been rejuvenated following the trade to the Red Sox. On the season, the 30-year-old is slashing .224/.300/.386 with 17 homers, 75 RBI and one stolen base across 510 plate appearances.

Lowe came to the plate with the bases loaded and trailing by a run in the fifth inning and smacked a sacrifice fly that tied the game at 2-2. He also delivered a go-ahead RBI double off of Luke Weaver in the seventh that proved to be the difference. The 30-year-old first baseman is now 2-for-8 (.250) with a homer, double and four RBI in his first three games with the Red Sox.

Lowe’s two-run shot off Yaramil Hiraldo tied the game at 3-3 in the ninth. He later walked before Boston’s rally stalled in the 10th. He probably would have been the hero for the Red Sox if the team hadn’t started Abraham Toro tonight. Toro, though, was allowed to ground into an inning-ending double play after Lowe’s walk to load the bases in the 10th. We were rather hoping Lowe’s signing meant Toro wouldn’t see the field again, but the Red Sox decided to use him at first base and Lowe at DH tonight. Toro wound up 0-for-5, but at least that was the only double play he grounded into.

Lowe should take over as Boston’s first baseman against right-handers, turning Abraham Toro into more of a utilityman and also taking some time away from Romy Gonzalez. The 29-year-old was cut by the Nationals after hitting just .216/.292/.373 in 490 plate appearances. He had a .277/.360/.438 line for the Rangers from 2022-24. The Red Sox will have Lowe under control for 2026, but since he’s making $10.3 million in arbitration this year, he’ll have to pull off an outstanding finish in order to avoid being non-tendered.
