Loutos was claimed off waivers from the Nationals back in November with the intention that he’d compete for a spot in the team’s Opening Day bullpen. He struggled in Cactus League play though, posting a posting an 18.00 ERA, 2.33 WHIP and a 4/0 K/BB ratio in three innings over his four appearances. He’ll open the season as extra bullpen depth at Triple-A Tacoma.

It seems likely that he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the defending World Champions at Triple-A Oklahoma City.
