No word yet regarding how much time Mize will miss after undergoing an MRI that revealed an adductor strain. The 28-year-old was lifted from Tuesday’s start against the Braves with groin tightness after just 2 1/3 innings. He holds a strong 2.90 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 35/11 K/BB ratio across 31 innings this season. It’ll likely be Sawyer Gipson-Long taking his spot in Detroit’s rotation since Justin Verlander (hip) isn’t close to returning from the injured list.

Mize expressed optimism after leaving Tuesday’s start with groin tightness after 2 1/3 innings, but there won’t be a definitive outlook on his status until he undergoes imaging to determine the severity of the issue. He’s in obvious jeopardy of missing his next start against the Rangers on Sunday.

Mize is likely to undergo further evaluation and imaging to determine whether he’ll require a trip to the injured list. The 28-year-old righty left Tuesday’s start with a trainer in the third inning after allowing two runs over 2 1/3 frames. It would likely be Sawyer Gipson-Long taking his rotation spot, but that’s purely speculative at this point. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days.

Mize left the contest after fielding a routine ground out by Drake Baldwin. He appeared to be dealing with some leg discomfort earlier in the frame. He was charged with two runs over 2 1/3 innings before exiting. There should be an update on his status shortly.

He walked three and allowed three hits, lowering his ERA to 2.51. Mize has been throwing more splitters this season, and the pitch is much improved. His strikeout minus walk rate was a career-best entering this start. Mize’s next scheduled start looks like a road trip to Atlanta, a tough one to trust him for despite the promising start to the year.

Mize allowed only four baserunners on the evening and worked himself out of a slight jam in the sixth inning after allowing a leadoff double to Caleb Durbin. Mize was pulled in the seventh with the game still scoreless after allowing a two-out single to Jarren Duran, and he has allowed just one run or fewer in three of his four starts this season. Mize saw 58 of his 94 pitches on the evening go for strikes, and had his strikeout pitch working for most of the night. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday at home against the Brewers.

Mize struck out five. He needed just 74 pitches to get his 17 outs, and though he exited with two on in the sixth, that was only because a Kevin McGonigle error had extended the inning. Mize stands 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA and an 18/6 K/BB in 16 innings over his three starts. Still, his velocity is down some from last year, and he doesn’t seem like a mixed-league guy right now. He’ll make his next start in Boston against the Red Sox.

It seemed like a good spot for Mize, but his lack of whiffs caught up with him in this one. He struck out four and walked three while posting a 19 percent whiff rate and just a 64 percent strike rate. His fastball velocity also started at 92.8 mph but was down to 89.3 mph by the fifth inning, which is a bit concerning. Both his splitter and slider were also four mph slower by the end of the game. Perhaps it was weather-related, as it got a bit colder later in the night, but this is something to monitor in his next start.

Mize was working around baserunners through his first three innings of work. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the third before giving up his first run on a solo homer by Jose Fernandez in the fourth. Mize settled in to complete two more clean frames, completing six innings. The splitter was a real neutralizer for him, inducing nine of his 15 whiffs to collect nine strikeouts. It was an impressive first start for the 28-year-old right-hander. Mize will take on the Twins in Minnesota on Monday.

Mize also issued four free passes on the evening while recording a pair of strikeouts. After a scoreless first inning, the Pirates tagged him for two runs in each of the next three frames — including a two-run blast by Jhostynxon Garcia in the third. Mize threw just 43 of his 67 pitches for strikes in the ballgame, getting five whiffs and posting a miserable CSW of just 15 percent. He’ll try to right the ship and improve upon his unsightly 7.15 ERA his next time out.

Mize gave up four hits and handed out one free pass in an outing that was all over the place against a group of mostly minor leaguers. The 28-year-old former first-overall pick will open the season at the back-end of Detroit’s overhauled rotation and offers minimal fantasy appeal for shallow mixed leagues.

Mize fanned two while facing mostly minor leagues today. DeShawn Kiersey Jr. homered off him for the first earned run he’s allowed in five innings this spring.

Mize’s velocity today was right around his 2025 norms, but interestingly, the spin rates on all his secondary pitches were significantly improved (his fastball held steady). That might be something to keep an eye on in the spring progresses. Mize isn’t looked at as being much of a factor in mixed leagues, but he was quite solid last year and is in a nice situation in Detroit.

Mize pitched well overall in 2025, registering a 3.87 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 139/36 K/BB ratio over 149 innings. He seemed to fade down the stretch, but that’s to be expected given how limited his workload had been by injuries over the last few seasons. He doesn’t miss enough bats to be a real fantasy asset, but he’s a good rotation option for the Tigers.

Mize seemed to be in better shape today than when he was lifted after three innings against the Guardians last week, but the Tigers didn’t want him facing Josh Naylor for a second time in the fourth. He allowed just two hard-hit balls, which were also the only two hits. One was a double by Naylor in the second.

Mize threw 62 pitches, and 37 of them went for strikes. He exited after issuing a walk to José Ramírez, with that runner being erased on a double-play after Tyler Holton took over. The one he gave up came on a solo homer in the first by George Valera. Mize will likely start Game 3 of the ALDS against Seattle if Detroit can win Thursday.

That’s mildly concerning for the Tigers. Mize was fine this season, with a 3.87 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 139/36 K/BB ratio over 149 innings, but he pitched to a 4.92 ERA in 60 1/3 innings after the All-Star Break. Meanwhile, Flaherty has a 4.64 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 161 innings this season. It feels like the Tigers need to win Game 1 with Tarik Skubal on the mound to have any chance in this series.

Mize scattered six hits on the night and didn’t allow a base on balls. The Red Sox scratched out a run against him in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Masataka Yoshida. Mize then exited with two runners in scoring position with one out in the seventh inning and one of those runs ultimately scored against the Tigers’ bullpen. The 28-year-old right-hander got 14 swings and misses on 80 pitches on the evening, registering a strong CSW of 34 percent. He concludes a strong regular season with a 14-6 record, 3.87 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 139/36 K/BB ratio over 149 innings in 28 starts.

Mize gave up five hits, walked three and struck out five. In a game the Tigers desperately needed to get off the mat in the AL Central race, the 28-year-old right-hander was just okay. Mize allowed three runs and struck out five batters while exiting in the sixth inning with two outs. He’s allowed three runs or less in five of his last six starts. Mize has a 3.91 ERA and 131/36 K/BB ratio in 142 2/3 innings this year. He’s scheduled to face the Red Sox on the road in the final weekend of the regular season.

The 28-year-old hurler punched out eight batters on the night while issuing one base on balls. The Guardians scratched on a run against him in the second inning then Gabriel Arias tagged him for a solo shot in the fourth inning. Mize also allowed an RBI double to Bo Naylor before exiting in the sixth inning. He got 16 swings and misses on 87 pitches on the night — 10 of them on his splitter — while registering a CSW of 33 percent. He’ll carry a 3.88 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and a 126/33 K/BB ratio (137 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Braves.

The Tigers are listing that one as TBA. If might be a bullpen game if the team gets a strong showing from Charlie Morton on Saturday. Mize presumably will start Tuesday against the Guardians following an off day on Monday.

Mize piled up eight strikeouts on the night and didn’t walk a batter. All of the damage came on a pair of solo home runs — one by Aaron Judge in the opening inning and another off the bat of Cody Bellinger in the fourth. He was in complete command otherwise. The 28-year-old hurler got nine whiffs on 88 pitches on the night — six of those on his splitter — while registering a CSW of 33 percent. Now 14-5 on the season, he’ll look to replicate this fine outing as he carries a 3.83 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 118/32 K/BB ratio (131 2/3 innings) into Sunday’s showdown against the Marlins in Miami.

Pitching on six days’ rest, Mize got some extra work on the side in between starts, which seemed to pay off today. His fastball and sinker were both up by one mph from his season average and his spin rates were unusually high. He didn’t miss a ton of bats, settling for three strikeouts and six whiffs on 37 swings, but he got his 15 outs while using just 69 pitches. Fortunately, he retired all three batters he faced in the fifth, leaving Juan Soto on deck to end the inning. There’s very little chance he would have been allowed to face Soto a third time with a man on base, and exiting then would have left him ineligible for the win. Mize improved to 13-5 with a 3.87 ERA ahead of a start in New York against the Yankees.

Mize has scuffled considerably over the last months, and this was yet another clunker. He allowed seven hits, two walks, and four strikeouts didn’t compensate for those issues. The right-hander has an ERA of 3.95 on the season, but that mark was 2.86 at the end of June. He’ll take on the Mets on Tuesday.

Mize didn’t record a single strikeout in the ballgame while issuing one base on balls. All of the damage done against him came on a three-run uprising in the third inning that included an RBI single by Bobby Witt Jr. and a two-run double off the bat of Salvador Perez. The 28-year-old hurler got just three swings and misses on 87 pitches on the night, posting a laughable CSW of only 15 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he carries a 3.68 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 103/30 K/BB ratio (117 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Athletics in West Sacramento.

Mize had one ineffective inning, and that was in the fifth when he gave up a three-spot. His other run allowed came in the seventh after he had left the game. The former first-overall pick outside of that was outstanding, and he allowed just four hits with one walk while picking up his 12th win against four losses. Mize will look to keep it going against the Royals on Friday.

Mize gave up three hits, walked two and struck out five. The 28-year-old right-hander has now won back-to-back starts after he had three bad outings in a row. Mize has lowered his ERA to 3.50 in the process. He’s lined up to face the Twins on the road next weekend.

Mize only gave up four hits, but three of them were solo home runs. Ryan Jeffers slugged a high sinker out to left field in the first inning while Trevor Larnach and Matt Wallner hit splitters that Mize also left up in the zone. Overall, though, Mize bounced back from three bad starts in row to put up a quality start and get his 10th win. He has a 3.50 ERA and 88/26 K/BB ratio in 100 1/3 innings this year. Mize is set to face the Angels at home this weekend.

Oof. Mize struck out two batters on the night. He had his start pushed back an extra day due to soreness in his knee and you have to wonder if it was still nagging at him in this start which led to his early departure. He allowed a leadoff triple to Corbin Carroll and then an RBI single to Ketel Marte to put him in an early 1-0 hole. The Diamondbacks then scratched out an unearned run against him in the second inning. On the night, Mize generated seven whiffs on 59 pitches, registering a CSW of 25 percent. He’ll try to put this one out of his mind as he totes a 3.43 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and an 84/26 K/BB ratio (94 1/3 innings) into Monday’s matchup against the Twins.

Mize will instead start Tuesday. Mize’s normal routine between starts got disrupted a bit due to some minor knee soreness, so the Tigers are giving him an extra day of rest just to be on the safe side. It’s still a situation that fantasy managers should monitor going forward. Troy Melton will start in his place on Monday against the Diamondbacks.
