Mize seemed to be in better shape today than when he was lifted after three innings against the Guardians last week, but the Tigers didn’t want him facing Josh Naylor for a second time in the fourth. He allowed just two hard-hit balls, which were also the only two hits. One was a double by Naylor in the second.

Mize threw 62 pitches, and 37 of them went for strikes. He exited after issuing a walk to José Ramírez, with that runner being erased on a double-play after Tyler Holton took over. The one he gave up came on a solo homer in the first by George Valera. Mize will likely start Game 3 of the ALDS against Seattle if Detroit can win Thursday.

That’s mildly concerning for the Tigers. Mize was fine this season, with a 3.87 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 139/36 K/BB ratio over 149 innings, but he pitched to a 4.92 ERA in 60 1/3 innings after the All-Star Break. Meanwhile, Flaherty has a 4.64 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 161 innings this season. It feels like the Tigers need to win Game 1 with Tarik Skubal on the mound to have any chance in this series.

Mize scattered six hits on the night and didn’t allow a base on balls. The Red Sox scratched out a run against him in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Masataka Yoshida. Mize then exited with two runners in scoring position with one out in the seventh inning and one of those runs ultimately scored against the Tigers’ bullpen. The 28-year-old right-hander got 14 swings and misses on 80 pitches on the evening, registering a strong CSW of 34 percent. He concludes a strong regular season with a 14-6 record, 3.87 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 139/36 K/BB ratio over 149 innings in 28 starts.

Mize gave up five hits, walked three and struck out five. In a game the Tigers desperately needed to get off the mat in the AL Central race, the 28-year-old right-hander was just okay. Mize allowed three runs and struck out five batters while exiting in the sixth inning with two outs. He’s allowed three runs or less in five of his last six starts. Mize has a 3.91 ERA and 131/36 K/BB ratio in 142 2/3 innings this year. He’s scheduled to face the Red Sox on the road in the final weekend of the regular season.

The 28-year-old hurler punched out eight batters on the night while issuing one base on balls. The Guardians scratched on a run against him in the second inning then Gabriel Arias tagged him for a solo shot in the fourth inning. Mize also allowed an RBI double to Bo Naylor before exiting in the sixth inning. He got 16 swings and misses on 87 pitches on the night — 10 of them on his splitter — while registering a CSW of 33 percent. He’ll carry a 3.88 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and a 126/33 K/BB ratio (137 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Braves.

The Tigers are listing that one as TBA. If might be a bullpen game if the team gets a strong showing from Charlie Morton on Saturday. Mize presumably will start Tuesday against the Guardians following an off day on Monday.

Mize piled up eight strikeouts on the night and didn’t walk a batter. All of the damage came on a pair of solo home runs — one by Aaron Judge in the opening inning and another off the bat of Cody Bellinger in the fourth. He was in complete command otherwise. The 28-year-old hurler got nine whiffs on 88 pitches on the night — six of those on his splitter — while registering a CSW of 33 percent. Now 14-5 on the season, he’ll look to replicate this fine outing as he carries a 3.83 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 118/32 K/BB ratio (131 2/3 innings) into Sunday’s showdown against the Marlins in Miami.

Pitching on six days’ rest, Mize got some extra work on the side in between starts, which seemed to pay off today. His fastball and sinker were both up by one mph from his season average and his spin rates were unusually high. He didn’t miss a ton of bats, settling for three strikeouts and six whiffs on 37 swings, but he got his 15 outs while using just 69 pitches. Fortunately, he retired all three batters he faced in the fifth, leaving Juan Soto on deck to end the inning. There’s very little chance he would have been allowed to face Soto a third time with a man on base, and exiting then would have left him ineligible for the win. Mize improved to 13-5 with a 3.87 ERA ahead of a start in New York against the Yankees.

Mize has scuffled considerably over the last months, and this was yet another clunker. He allowed seven hits, two walks, and four strikeouts didn’t compensate for those issues. The right-hander has an ERA of 3.95 on the season, but that mark was 2.86 at the end of June. He’ll take on the Mets on Tuesday.

Mize didn’t record a single strikeout in the ballgame while issuing one base on balls. All of the damage done against him came on a three-run uprising in the third inning that included an RBI single by Bobby Witt Jr. and a two-run double off the bat of Salvador Perez. The 28-year-old hurler got just three swings and misses on 87 pitches on the night, posting a laughable CSW of only 15 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he carries a 3.68 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 103/30 K/BB ratio (117 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Athletics in West Sacramento.

Mize had one ineffective inning, and that was in the fifth when he gave up a three-spot. His other run allowed came in the seventh after he had left the game. The former first-overall pick outside of that was outstanding, and he allowed just four hits with one walk while picking up his 12th win against four losses. Mize will look to keep it going against the Royals on Friday.

Mize gave up three hits, walked two and struck out five. The 28-year-old right-hander has now won back-to-back starts after he had three bad outings in a row. Mize has lowered his ERA to 3.50 in the process. He’s lined up to face the Twins on the road next weekend.

Mize only gave up four hits, but three of them were solo home runs. Ryan Jeffers slugged a high sinker out to left field in the first inning while Trevor Larnach and Matt Wallner hit splitters that Mize also left up in the zone. Overall, though, Mize bounced back from three bad starts in row to put up a quality start and get his 10th win. He has a 3.50 ERA and 88/26 K/BB ratio in 100 1/3 innings this year. Mize is set to face the Angels at home this weekend.

Oof. Mize struck out two batters on the night. He had his start pushed back an extra day due to soreness in his knee and you have to wonder if it was still nagging at him in this start which led to his early departure. He allowed a leadoff triple to Corbin Carroll and then an RBI single to Ketel Marte to put him in an early 1-0 hole. The Diamondbacks then scratched out an unearned run against him in the second inning. On the night, Mize generated seven whiffs on 59 pitches, registering a CSW of 25 percent. He’ll try to put this one out of his mind as he totes a 3.43 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and an 84/26 K/BB ratio (94 1/3 innings) into Monday’s matchup against the Twins.

Mize will instead start Tuesday. Mize’s normal routine between starts got disrupted a bit due to some minor knee soreness, so the Tigers are giving him an extra day of rest just to be on the safe side. It’s still a situation that fantasy managers should monitor going forward. Troy Melton will start in his place on Monday against the Diamondbacks.

The 28-year-old right-hander punched out five batters on the evening while issuing one base on balls. The Pirates jumped on him for a pair of runs in the second inning on a two-run double by Spencer Horwitz. They then tacked on another run in the third and two more in the fourth before chasing Mize from the game. He got 10 whiffs on 86 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he carries a 3.40 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and an 82/23 K/BB ratio (92 2/3 innings) into Sunday’s matchup against the Blue Jays.

Five of the runs scored in the third, with the last three coming on Luke Raley’s homer. Mize got one out afterwards to end the inning, but he didn’t come back out for the fourth. It was both his shortest start of the year and his first with more than four runs surrendered. He closes out a breakthrough first half 9-3 with a 3.15 ERA.

Mize allowed four hits, walked two and struck out four in his third straight win. As effective as he’s been this year, this is the first time he’s gone without allowing a run since his opener against the Mariners on Apr. 1. His only other career start of at least seven scoreless innings came on Apr. 12, 2021 against the Astros. Mize is tied for third in the majors in wins, and he would be 12th in ERA if he weren’t five innings short of qualifying. That’s a solid All-Star case.

Byron Buxton’s two-run homer in the third was the only damage. Ryan Jeffers almost had a solo shot an inning earlier, but Kerry Carpenter made a leaping catch at the wall. Mize struck out five in spite of having only eight whiffs and a 21% CSW. He still hasn’t allowed more than four runs in a start this season, and he’s given up three earned only three times in 14 starts. He’ll probably make his next start Friday in Cleveland.

It’s a massive relief that Mize is not hurt after experiencing some diminished velocity prior to leaving Sunday’s start in the sixth inning. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that he dealt with some cramping with temperatures in the 90’s and the heat index touching triple digits in Tampa Bay. The 28-year-old righty should be ready to take the ball on Saturday against the Twins.

It’s worth noting that the temperature was hovering around 90 degrees at first pitch down in Tampa Bay, so it might be a heat-related departure. Mize exited after allowing a leadoff single to Junior Caminero in the sixth inning. He had limited Tampa Bay to just one run over five frames with a 24 percent whiff rate and 21 percent CSW. He struck out five and didn’t hand out a free pass. There should be an update on his status shortly, but assuming he is able to make his next start, it would be in a good spot against the Twins.

Mize struck out four batters on the night and didn’t allow a base on balls. The Pirates scratched out an unearned run against him in the second inning then tacked on another pair in the third on a two-run single by Alexander Canario. The 28-year-old hurler got 11 swings and misses on 92 pitches on the night — six on his slurve — while posting a CSW of 24 percent. Now 7-2 on the season, he’ll carry a stellar 2.96 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a 59/18 K/BB ratio (67 innings) into Sunday’s matchup against the Rays in Tampa Bay.

There was plenty of both good and bad to take out of this start by Mize. His seven strikeouts are the second most he’s had in any start this season and most in four starts since coming off the injured list. His splitter was lethal working as his primary pitch forcing seven swings-and-misses while not allowing a single hard-hit ball. Yet, his usage of that pitch became a bit predictable late in this game and strikes were tougher to come by. In the end, he was a tad too inefficient to get through the sixth inning and earn a quality start. He’s scheduled for a two-start week coming up against the Pirates at home and Rays on the road.

The White Sox swung at 42 of Mize’s 93 pitches and missed just four times. They collected six hits. It suggests this could have been an ugly one had Mize been facing a more capable offense. Since coming off the IL, Mize has allowed six earned runs and 18 hits in 13 innings over three starts. As great of a situation as Detroit is for pitchers right now, it’s probably not time to move on from Mize just yet. It might be soon, though. He’ll face the Orioles next.

The 28-year-old right-hander walked two and struck out four on the evening. He served up a long solo homer to Bobby Witt Jr. in the opening inning, then the Royals added another pair of runs against him in the third inning on a two-run single off the bat of Drew Waters. Mize got eight whiffs on 79 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 30 percent. On the season, he sports a 6-1 record, 2.82 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a 45/12 K/BB ratio across 51 innings through his first nine starts. He’ll attempt to get back in the win column as he squares off against the White Sox in Chicago on Wednesday.

Mize was making his first start after being shut down for two weeks with a hamstring strain, and it went well. He gave up a solo homer to Bo Naylor in the third, but held the Cleveland lineup in check outside of that while allowing just four hits and one free pass. The former first-overall pick has pitched very well in 2025 with a 2.45 ERA, and he’ll try and keep it up against the Royals next weekend.

Detroit could certainly use Mize back this weekend with Reese Olson (finger) likely headed to the injured list. The 28-year-old righty has been out since early May working his way back from a mild left hamstring strain. Fantasy managers should anticipate him being ready to take the ball at some point this weekend against the Guardians.

The Tigers are calling it a mild left hamstring strain, which suggests that Mize isn’t facing a lengthy absence. It’ll likely be Keider Montero taking the ball on Tuesday against the Red Sox. The 28-year-old righty has pitched extremely well this season, compiling a sparkling 2.53 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 35/9 K/BB ratio across 42 2/3 innings (seven starts).
