Muncy let the Dodgers tack this option on to his two-year, $24 million deal even though it’s a cut in pay and didn’t include a buyout. Still, he’s always seemed just happy to be there. The 35-year-old hit .243/.376/.470 in 100 games last season.

Muncy drew a walk off of Max Scherzer in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth, but the Dodgers were unable to cash him in either time. He then tagged right-hander Trey Yesavage for a 373-foot (102.2 mph EV) solo shot in the eighth inning that pulled the Dodgers to within a run at 4-3. Muncy also singled in the 10th inning to put two men on with one out, but the Dodgers were unable to push a run across. He finished the postseason hitting .214/.353/.411 with three homers and three RBI in 56 at-bats.

Muncy’s ninth-inning double against Blue Jays reliever Louis Varland represented Los Angeles’ lone extra-base hit of the night. The Dodgers went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and managed just two runs on six hits in the loss.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has flipped Muncy — who launched a pivotal solo homer during the late stages of Saturday night’s Game 2 win in Toronto — and Teoscar Hernández on his lineup card to face Blue Jays veteran Max Scherzer as the best-of-seven Fall Classic shifts to Los Angeles. Here’s the full lineup: Shohei Ohtani (DH), Mookie Betts (SS). Freddie Freeman (1B), Will Smith (C), Muncy (3B), Hernández (RF), Tommy Edman (2B), Enrique Hernández (LF) and Andy Pages (CF).

The Dodgers had just snapped a 1-1 tie earlier in the inning as Will Smith crushed a go-ahead solo shot off of Jays’ right-hander Kevin Gausman. Two batters later, Muncy pummeled a 2-2 fastball from Gausman for a 351-foot (100.9 mph EV) solo shot that increased the Dodgers’ edge to 3-1. That would be his only hit in three at-bats on the evening. For the postseason, the 35-year-old slugger is hitting .229/.372/.429 with a pair of homers and two RBI in 43 plate appearances.

Muncy increased Los Angeles’ lead in the late stages of the contest with a pivotal insurance run when he connected for a 412-foot big fly to straightaway center field on a full-count offering from Brewers ace Freddy Peralta with two outs in the sixth inning. The 35-year-old veteran slugger took over sole possession of the franchise’s record with his 14th career postseason round-tripper. With the victory, the Dodgers take a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series with both clubs headed out to Los Angeles.

The Dodgers started Kiké Hernández at third and Alex Call in left field in Game 1, but tonight it’ll be Miguel Rojas at third and Hernández in left field, with Call on the bench versus Jesús Luzardo. That’s the lone change from the Game 1 lineup versus Christopher Sánchez.

No real surprises here as Los Angeles kicks off its title defense against Cincinnati at Dodger Stadium. Muncy returns to the cleanup spot to face Reds ace Hunter Greene in the opening contest of the best-of-three NL Wild Card Series after missing a couple games at the end of the regular season with a lower body issue. The other notable development here is Will Smith (hand) being available off the bench for his first game action since September 9. Here’s the full lineup Shohei Ohtani (DH), Mookie Betts (SS), Freddie Freeman (1B), Muncy (3B), Teoscar Hernández (RF), Tommy Edman (2B), Andy Pages (CF), Enrique Hernández (LF) and Ben Rortvedt (C).

Muncy missed Los Angeles’ final four regular-season contests due to a non-disclosed lower body injury. The 35-year-old veteran third baseman should be a full-go for the postseason after getting some extra time off to rest and recover.

Muncy sat out over the weekend due to an unspecified lower body injury, but it sounds like it was more of a precautionary measure than anything else. Look for the 35-year-old slugger to return to the Dodgers’ lineup when the bright lights come on for the postseason.

There’s zero incentive for the Dodgers to rush Muncy back after capturing their 12th division title in the last 13 seasons earlier this week and locking up the NL’s third overall seed in the playoffs. The 35-year-old veteran has missed four straight games due to an unspecified lower body injury. It’ll be a red-hot Enrique Hernández continuing to fill-in at the hot corner in his absence.

While it seemed that Muncy was just getting a breather on Friday night alongside Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts, he’s actually dealing with a minor issue. Roberts noted that they’ll give him a few days to work through it, so it’s possible he sits out the entire weekend series against the Mariners.

The D-backs are starting a lefty in Jalen Beeks, but he’s just been a one-inning guy of late and won’t be in the game for long, making Muncy’s absence a bit surprising. Still, this is probably more about maintenance after the injuries he’s dealt with recently. The same goes for Edman. The Dodgers are three games up on the Padres in the loss column in the NL West and no longer have any chance of securing a bye, so they can take it pretty easy at this point.

Muncy is back at the hot corner and batting seventh on Monday night at Dodger Stadium after sitting out Sunday’s game. The 35-year-old veteran third baseman has been snake-bitten by injuries this season and that trend continued over the weekend when he was hit by pitches in the head and forearm. It sounds like he’s feeling better and ready to roll after a brief hiatus.

Muncy takes a seat after being hit by a pitch in back-to-back games in the series. The 35-year-old veteran appears to have checked out fine after being hit by a pitch in the head during Saturday’s contest. He’ll get a break from facing Giants southpaw Robbie Ray on Saturday afternoon and is day-to-day heading into Monday’s showdown against the Phillies.

Muncy can’t seem to catch a break lately. The 35-year-old veteran, who was back in the lineup after being hit by a pitch on the forearm during Friday’s series opener, was lifted from Saturday’s contest a couple frames after being drilled in the side of the head by a 94 mph sinker. There should be an update on his status prior to Sunday’s contest.

Muncy was pulled from Friday’s game with a forearm injury as he was worried about his ability to throw from third base late in the ballgame. He’s back in there at the hot corner on Saturday and will bat cleanup against Giants’ right-hander Logan Webb.

Muncy is back at the hot corner and batting cleanup on Monday night against the Rockies in his return to the lineup following a nearly one-month absence recovering from an oblique strain. The 35-year-old should add some much-needed pop to Los Angeles’ struggling offense.

Roberts added that reliever Alex Vesia is also expected to return for Monday’s matchup against Colorado. Muncy will wraps up his rehab assignment on Sunday before heading back to Los Angeles for the start of the club’s homestand. The Dodgers could certainly use his back in their lineup considering they’ve lost five straight contests.

The 35-year-old was supposed to start the assignment earlier in the week, but an illness set him back a couple of days. He’s likely to remain there through the weekend to get some at-bats in, and if all goes well he would then be cleared to rejoin the Dodgers early next week.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Muncy’s recovery process has been delayed due to a recent chest cold that has kept him from kicking off a rehab assignment. The 35-year-old isn’t too far off from making it back to Los Angeles, but it likely won’t be until after next week.

Roberts also noted that Muncy may only need a couple of games there and could rejoin the Dodgers for next weekend’s series against the Orioles in Baltimore. The 35-year-old slugger has been shelved since mid-August due to a Grade 1 right oblique strain.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts added that Muncy isn’t feeling any discomfort in his right oblique while taking swings and is making progress towards returning. The 34-year-old veteran hit the shelf last week with a Grade 1 oblique strain. He should make it back at some point in early September.

Muncy was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain and while he’s expected to be out longer than the minimum of 10 days, he is not expected to miss the remainder of the regular season. Buddy Kennedy — who was claimed off of waivers from the Blue Jays — will add infield depth for the Dodgers while Muncy is shelved.
