Martini is a near-lock to elect free agency and search for an opportunity elsewhere after being removed last week from Colorado’s 40-man roster. The 34-year-old journeyman outfielder hit .225/.288/.294 in 111 plate appearances over 43 games this season for the Rockies.

Martini lasted weeks longer than he should have, if he even should have been on the roster in the first place. The 34-year-old journeyman was hitting .225/.288/.294 in 111 plate appearances. For better or worse, the Rockies will probably simply turn his at-bats over to Sam Hilliard.

It was surprising that Martini made the Rockies out of spring training, and it’s even more surprising that he’s still with the club now, given that he’s hitting .230/.294/.300 and he’s driven in a total of four runs in 109 plate appearances. Four! The Rockies don’t have any outfielders banging down the door for a callup, but they might as well give Martini’s at-bats to Tyler Freeman and see what he can do with them.
