Mountcastle DH’d today in what might have been his final home game in Baltimore. He’s hit .262/.301/.404 with five homers and 20 RBI in 36 games since returning from a strained hamstring. The Orioles have him under control for one more year, but they might decide against paying the $8 million or so it would take to bring him back in arbitration.

Mountcastle’s homer left the bat at 114.3 mph. He also hit balls 106.0 mph and 104.3 mph off Will Warren, with the latter turning into his sac fly. He’s hitting an adequate .272/.309/.408 in 32 games since returning from his hamstring strain. It’s at least a whole lot better than his .246/.280/.348 line in 52 games pre-injury.

Usual leadoff man Jackson Holliday is getting this one off with lefty Max Fried on the mound. With Tyler O’Neill back in the mix and the Orioles having committed to Coby Mayo at first, Mountcastle had been out of the lineup five times in seven games. He seems destined to be moved this winter, unless maybe the Orioles decide that Mayo isn’t the answer at first.

Samuel Basallo will shift to DH with Alex Jackson starting behind the plate. Mountcastle has hit .282/.325/.409 in 28 games since coming off the IL with three home runs, 16 RBI, and two steals. He should be back in the starting lineup on Friday and remains the favorite to start at first base for the Orioles in 2026.

Mountcastle doubled in two runs in the third and singled home two more in the fifth. He’s driven in 27 runs over his 71 games with an underwhelming slash of .258/.294/.365 to go with them. It seems awfully likely that this will be Mountcastle’s last year as a member of the Orioles.

Mountcastle singled in the fourth and then attempted a steal of second on what turned out to be a wild pitch from Logan Evans, allowing him to take third. Daniel Johnson went on to walk and then tried to steal second but got himself hung up in a rundown that allowed Mountcastle to take off and steal home, and Johnson still made it to second on the play anyway. Mountcastle’s only previous steal this season was also of home, so he has that going for him. He’s 5-for-20 with two homers in six games since coming off the injured list.

Mountcastle will make his triumphant return to the Orioles’ lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Athletics where he’ll bat fifth and serve as the designated hitter. It comes at the right time too as the O’s lost Tyler O’Neill (wrist) and Colton Cowser (concussion) to the injured list on Friday and could use an infusion of offense. Mountcastle had been shelved since the end of May due to a hamstring strain.

Mountcastle has been out of action since the end of May with his hamstring strain. The 28-year-old has had success at the highest level, and fantasy managers who need a pick-me-up at first base or a corner-infield position could do worse than giving him a look this late in the season.

The Orioles said they wanted to give Mountcastle a few more at-bats in Triple-A, but he seems ready to go. It’s possible that he could be called up if the Orioles need to put Tyler O’Neill (wrist) on the IL. Mountcastle should be stashed in 15-team leagues.

This explains why Baltimore brought up newly acquired first baseman Ryan Noda prior to Sunday’s game against the Cubs. It sounds like Mountcastle is feeling fine physically, but the Orioles want to give him a few extra games in the minors next week before bringing him back.

Mountcastle is now 7-for-15 on his rehab assignment with two home runs and six RBI. The Orioles have said he will return next week, but the bigger question is what kind of role he could return to. With Ryan O’Hearn likely to be traded, there’s a chance that Mountcastle could be the starting first baseman for the Orioles over the final two months.

That will conveniently coincide with when Ryan O’Hearn likely gets traded to another team. Mountcastle has gone 6-for-12 with a home run and three RBI on his rehab assignment and could return to an everyday role when he’s back for the series against the Phillies next week. His playing time likely depends on whether or not the Orioles want Coby Mayo to be their regular first baseman for the final two months of the year.

Mountcastle has gone 6-for-12 with a home run and three RBI on his rehab assignment and may be close to getting activated. The 28-year-old has one year of arbitration left, so it remains unclear if Baltimore will try to shop him at the deadline or keep him as their starting first baseman if/when they trade Ryan O’Hearn.

It was his lone hit in three at-bats as Triple-A Norfolk’s first baseman. Mountcastle, on the 60-day with a hamstring injury, will be eligible to return Wednesday and could be activated then. He’ll be a better bet for fantasy value if the Orioles shed a bat or two at the deadline.

Mountcastle is eligible to be activated off the 60-day injured list on July 30, but it sounds like the Orioles may give him some additional time based on comments from interim manager Tony Mansolino. The 28-year-old first baseman has been on the shelf since late May recovering from a hamstring strain.

Mountcastle won’t come off the 60-day injured list until later this month, but he’s going to get back into game action next week as he continues to work his way back from a hamstring strain that put him on the shelf back in late May.

Mountcastle has begun a hitting progression, which is a positive development. The first baseman is hopeful he’ll be ready to roll when first eligible to come off the 60-day injured list, and he should be an everyday option when activated.

Oof. Mansolino had said on Thursday that Mountcastle would be out “a while” and now we find out it’s going to be two or three months. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues without injured reserve spots should probably cut bait as that’s an awfully long time to wait for the production that Mountcastle could provide upon his return. Top prospect Coby Mayo is going to get some extended runway at first base over the next several weeks to show what he can do in the majors.

The Orioles received Mountcastle’s MRI results on Wednesday, and it was clearly not good news. Mansolino didn’t specify what “a while” means, but we’d expect at least a month, which could diminish any trade value that Mountcastle has. In the meantime, we’d expect Coby Mayo to take over essentially the same role. However, it’s the Orioles, so they might bring back Jordan Westburg as a DH and keep Ramon Urias in the lineup at third base.

Mountcastle hits the injured list after exiting Friday’s game against the White Sox with hamstring discomfort. No word on the severity. It’ll likely be Ryan O’Hearn taking over at first base in his absence. There should be a rough timeline at some point in the coming days.

It seems as though Mountcastle suffered the injury while stealing home on a double steal during the sixth inning. He’ll head for further evaluation to determine the extent of the injury. Expect the O’s to provide an update on his status as soon as more information becomes available.

Mountcastle is back in the lineup at DH after fouling a ball off his foot during Friday’s game. He was available off the bench during Saturday’s game, but didn’t end up making an appearance. It doesn’t sound like a significant concern moving forward.

The 28-year-old slugger smacked a run-scoring double off of Pablo López in the fourth inning, pulling the O’s to within four runs at 5-1. That would be the extent of their offense in the ballgame. It was also Mountcastle’s only hit in four trips to the plate. On the season, the 28-year-old is slashing a dreadful .204/.243/.315 with two homers and 10 RBI.

Even though the changes at Camden Yards figured to help him, Mountcastle is again looking like someone in need of a trade, It might be best for everyone, since it could open room for Coby Mayo once Mayo gets hot in Triple-A. Mountcastle should be a perfectly fine major league regular, but the Orioles believe they have options just as good or better than him versus righties.

Mountcastle has been hitting the ball well this season with the best exit velocities he’s ever had, but this is his first home run of the season. He plays most games for Baltimore, but is not an everyday player and isn’t consistently placed in the middle of the lineup, so he might need a trade to put together shallow league fantasy value.
