The 29-year-old backstop was then optioned to Triple-A Buffalo. He’ll add some much needed catching depth in the organization while Alejandro Kirk is shelved. Tyler Fitzgerald was designated for assignment in a corresponding move to clear a spot on the Jays’ 40-man roster.

The Rangers needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for the promotion of Peyton Gray on Thursday and unfortunately MacIver was the odd man out this time around. The 28-year-old backstop was making his big league debut on Sunday and had been 0-for-3 heading into the eighth inning. There, the A’s tied the game on an RBI triple off the bat of Lawrence Butler before MacIver lined an 0-1 cutter from Strahm into center field to give the A’s the lead. MacIver also cut down Johan Rojas attempting to steal second base in the ninth inning to end the ballgame. He isn’t likely to see enough playing time or deliver enough production to make him relevant from a fantasy perspective, but it was still a very memorable debut for MacIver.
