MacIver, a longtime Rockies prospect, made his major league debut with the A’s last season and hit .186/.252/.324 in 111 plate appearances as a backup catcher. He has options remaining, so the Rangers are probably looking at him as Triple-A insurance, assuming that they carry on with their Kyle Higashioka-Jonah Heim combo behind the plate.

The 28-year-old backstop was making his big league debut on Sunday and had been 0-for-3 heading into the eighth inning. There, the A’s tied the game on an RBI triple off the bat of Lawrence Butler before MacIver lined an 0-1 cutter from Strahm into center field to give the A’s the lead. MacIver also cut down Johan Rojas attempting to steal second base in the ninth inning to end the ballgame. He isn’t likely to see enough playing time or deliver enough production to make him relevant from a fantasy perspective, but it was still a very memorable debut for MacIver.
