Aaron Nola will start Game 3 of the NLDS, according to Phillies manager Rob Thomson.

Thompson added that Nola will be followed by lefty Ranger Suárez out of the bullpen. It’ll be an all-hands situation for the Phillies as they attempt to stave off elimination on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium after dropping the first two games of the best-of-five series.

    Recap

Aaron Nola allowed one run on two hits in eight innings in a win over the Twins on Friday.

This was a much-needed strong game to head into the postseason. Nola struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter while posting a 22 percent whiff rate and 31 percent CSW. The only blemish was a solo home run to Christian Vazquez in the sixth inning. It’s been a rough season for Nola, who battled injuries and will finish the regular season with a 6.01 ERA in 94 1/3 innings and a 97/28 K/BB ratio. The Phillies would love to get this version of him in the postseason with Zack Wheeler out.

Aaron Nola yielded four runs in 5 1/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

10 of the 18 balls in play against Nola were hard hit, but he allowed just two runs before giving up doubles to back-to-back batters in the sixth. He was replaced then, and the runner he left on came around to score off Tanner Banks. It’s the 10th time in 16 starts this year that Nola has been charged with at least four runs. It’s going to be difficult to justify starting him in the postseason, but he’ll get one more chance to help his case next weekend against the Twins.

Aaron Nola gave up six runs and two homers in six innings Sunday against the Royals.

Nola gave up a two-run homer to Joe Caglianone and a three-run homer to Salvador Perez. He didn’t even miss with either pitch. Caglianone’s homer came on a curve that would have clipped the outside corner and the bottom of the strike zone if Caglianone hadn’t pulled it 404 feet anyway. The Perez homer was on a slider below the knees. Nola topped the NL with 30 homers allowed in 199 innings last season. This year, he’s given up 17 in just 81 innings while going 4-9 with a 6.44 ERA. He’ll face the Diamondbacks next weekend.

Aaron Nola fanned seven over six innings Monday in the Phillies’ 1-0 shutout of the Mets.

David Robertson, Matt Strahm and Jhoan Duran covered the last three. Nola allowed a season-low three hits while throwing 94 pitches. It’s the second time he’s gone without allowing a run and the fifth time he’s fanned as many as seven through 14 starts. The win puts him at 4-8 with a 6.24 ERA and makes him look like a better play in a home start against the Royals this weekend.

    Recap

Aaron Nola allowed six hits and six runs with two walks and six strikeouts over five innings in a loss to the Brewers on Wednesday.

What a disastrous start by Nola. The Brewers hung a five-spot on him before he recorded an out after a walk, hit batsmen, two singles, and three-run home run by Isaac Collins that barely left the yard. Funny enough, most of the damage was his own doing by putting the first two runners on for free and creating chaos. Then, Sal Frelick drove in the first two with a bloop single before Collins’ wall-scraper. Things were relatively easy for Nola from that point on, but the damage was already done. He’s scheduled for a two-start week — with both at home — coming up against the Mets and Royals.

Aaron Nola picked up his third victory of the season on Thursday night, limiting the Braves to four runs on four hits over his six innings of work.

The 32-year-old hurler struck out four batters on the evening while issuing three free passes. The Braves jumped on him for three runs in the top of the first inning, then Nola settled in nicely and kept them off the board until Matt Olson swatted a solo homer in the sixth inning. He got seven whiffs on 95 pitches on the night — five of them on his fastball — while posting a CSW of 23 percent. He’ll look to extend his winning streak to three as he brings a 6.47 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 66/21 K/BB ratio (64 innings) into a tough matchup against the Brewers in Milwaukee on Wednesday.

Aaron Nola allowed three runs -- two earned -- with six strikeouts over six innings in a win over the Nationals on Saturday.

Nola had a bounce-back start against the Nationals, holding them to three runs, two earned, over six frames. After four scoreless frames, a single, error, and a groundout put the Nats on the board with an unearned run in the fifth. CJ Abrams and Luis García Jr. added a pair of solo homers in the sixth before Nola’s day was done. He struck out six. The 32-year-old right-hander will look to take the momentum of a solid start into a matchup against the Braves in Philadelphia on Thursday.

    Recap

Aaron Nola allowed six runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Nationals on Sunday.

This was Nola’s first start with the Phillies since May 14. It did not go as well as the Phillies hoped, but Nola did strike out four while posting a 27 percent whiff rate and 28 percent CSW. He wasn’t hit overly hard either, with just an 87.6 mph average exit velocity. His four-seam fastball velocity was exactly at his season average, but that’s also down one mph from where he was last year. It’s hard to rely too much on Nola for the time being, and we’d probably keep him on the bench next week against the Braves.

Phillies activated RHP Aaron Nola from the 60-day injured list.

Nola takes the ball for his first big-league start since May 14 when he takes the ball for Sunday morning’s matchup against the Nationals. The 32-year-old former fantasy ace wound up missing three months due to separate ankle and rib issues. There shouldn’t be a governor on his workload after striking out 11 over 5 2/3 scoreless frames in his final rehab start at the Triple-A level where he threw 84 pitches (61 strikes).

The Phillies will activate Aaron Nola to start Sunday against the Nationals.

Nola last started in the majors three months ago today before going down with an ankle injury and later missing time with side soreness. The Phillies will use a six-man rotation to accommodate him, leaving room for Taijuan Walker. Ranger Suárez, who could have pitched on normal rest Sunday, will now face the Mariners on Monday.

Aaron Nola (rib, ankle) will join the Phillies over the weekend before their series against the Nationals.

The Phillies have yet to name a starter for Sunday’s game against Washington. Nola threw 5 2/3 innings while striking out 11 in a rehab start Tuesday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. You get where this is going. It’s not a lock that Nola makes that start, but all signs point to him making his return to the Philadelphia rotation this weekend.

Aaron Nola looked sharp in Tuesday’s minor league rehab start at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, racking up 11 strikeouts while allowing just one earned run over 5 2/3 innings.

Nola scattered four hits on the night and didn’t walk a batter, throwing 61 of his 84 pitches for strikes. Expect him to make his triumphant return to the Phillies rotation over the weekend against the Nationals.

Phillies’ skipper Rob Thomson noted on Friday that Aaron Nola (rib, ankle) will make another minor league rehab start at Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old right-hander got up to 69 pitches over 3 2/3 innings in his latest start there on Wednesday. If all goes well with Tuesday’s start, there’s growing momentum that Nola could rejoin the Phillies’ rotation the following weekend against the Nationals in Washington.

Aaron Nola (rib, ankle) allowed one run on four hits in 3 2/3 innings for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday.

Nola struck out three and walked two while throwing 40 of his 69 pitches for strikes. He posted a 16 percent whiff rate and 28 percent CSW but also sat 91.3 mph on his fastball, which is in line with his season averages. Of course, he has been around 92.5 mph for the last few seasons, but we assume he wasn’t rearing back in a Triple-A rehab start. With Nola likely up to 75-80 pitches in his next start, the Phillies may choose to activate him for next week’s series in Cincinnati.

Nola struck out three and threw 47 pitches (31 strikes) over three shutout frames on Friday afternoon in his first rehab outing. He’ll get another start under his belt to continue building up his pitch count and stamina in a couple days, but he appears on track to make it back to Philadelphia by mid-August.

Aaron Nola (rib, ankle) fired three innings of scoreless baseball in his latest minor league rehab start at Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday afternoon.

The 32-year-old hurler struck out three batters on the day while allowing three hits and one walk. He got up to 47 pitches in the contest so it’s likely that the Phillies will want him to make at least one additional rehab start to bump up his workload before rejoining their rotation. Taijuan Walker, your spot is still safe for now.

Aaron Nola (rib, ankle) will make a minor league rehab start on Thursday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Nola is targeting roughly 60 pitches in his first rehab outing. The 32-year-old righty has been out since mid-May recovering from ankle and rib issues. He’ll likely need at least one additional tune-up outing to increase his pitch count and stamina before making it back to Philadelphia at some point around mid August.

The team will see how Nola responds and then decide the next step. The veteran would likely progress to throwing bullpens before a rehab assignment. At this point, the best-case scenario would be a return right after the All-Star break, but early August may be a better bet.

It’s just a procedural move that opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for Buddy Kennedy. Nola will be eligible to come off the injured list right after the All-Star break, but there’s no guarantee he’ll be ready to return given his rib and ankle injuries.

Aaron Nola is going to be shut down for two weeks after being diagnosed with a stress reaction in right rib.

Nola will have to build back up after he resumes throwing, so he’s probably going to be out until after the All-Star break. Mick Abel will continue filling in for him for now, and while we’re not all that optimistic he’ll remain nearly this successful, those wanting to take a chance on him now have a good excuse to do so.

Aaron Nola (ankle) has been shut down from throwing temporarily due to right side soreness.

Nola’s upcoming live batting practice session, which was set for Thursday at the Rogers Centre, has been scrapped for precautionary reasons. Phillies manager Rob Thomson classified the side soreness as “very mild” in nature, but the club can’t really afford to take any chances and risk a full-blown oblique strain. The 32-year-old veteran righty should resume throwing in some capacity later this week. The setback pushes his return back even further, likely until at least late June.

It’s a significant step in the right direction as Nola works his way back from a sprained right ankle that he suffered back in mid-May. Aaron Nola (ankle) played catch on Tuesday.

Nola told reporters he felt something in his sprained right ankle while attempting to throw off a bullpen mound on Tuesday and has yet to throw an actual full-fledged bullpen session since hitting the shelf back in mid-May. There’s little incentive for the Phillies to rush the 31-year-old workhorse back at this stage of the year, so they’re presumably taking it slow and deliberately with his recovery process. Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect Nola back until some time later in June given where his throwing program is at the moment. It’ll be Taijuan Walker continuing to take the ball in his place.

Aaron Nola (ankle) is still dealing with soreness in his right ankle.

“No bullpen today,” Phillies manager Rich Thomson said in regards to Nola. “He was still a little sore today. It’s day by day. We’ll see if he’s OK tomorrow,” The team was hopeful he could throw a bullpen before one of the three games against the A’s, but it doesn’t appear that’s likely to happen now. Nola seems very unlikely to return to the Philadelphia rotation before the end of May, and this could push into the middle of June.
