Noel was just claimed on waivers on Monday, but will now be let go after the Orioles were able to land INF/OF Marco Luciano on waivers earlier today. Noel will hope somebody else wants to take a flyer on his big-time power and limited contact.

Noel was designated for assignment in December after hitting just .162/.183/.297 with 52 strikeouts in 153 plate appearances last season. He has tremendous raw power, but struggles to make consistent contact and has a real issue with hitting right-handed pitching. The Orioles will likely hope he can emerge as a short-side platoon option with their many left-handed hitters.

The A’s might have dropped someone else for Justin Bruihl had Noel had an option remaining, but that he’s out of them at age 24 does cut into his value. A helpful platoon player as a rookie in 2024, Noel came in at just .162/.183/.297 with 52 strikeouts in 153 plate appearances last season. He has top-of-the-line power, but it seems unlikely that he’ll ever make enough contact to rate as a useful regular. He could, however, bounce back well enough to contribute against lefties.

He also committed a key error that helped allow the go-ahead run to score in the seventh, which was probably the bigger issue today than him failing to reach base against a dominant Tarik Skubal. Noel and Jonathan Rodríguez, who also committed an error in right, will probably head to the bench now with the Guardians set to face right-handers for the remainder of the series against the Tigers.

Noel clobbered a 394-foot (109.7 mph EV) solo shot off of Hoby Milner in the seventh inning that pulled the Guardians to within a run at 4-3. The 24-year-old slugger also singled in the ballgame. He had a rough season overall during his time with the Guardians, slashing a cringe-inducing .162/.183/.297 with six homers and 13 RBI.

Noel’s 411-foot homer was responsible for the only run off Skubal in six innings. It was his fifth long ball in 141 plate appearances this season. He’s batting just .161/.177/.285 in his role as a starter against left-handed pitching.

Noel has hit just .140/.162/.215 in 111 major league plate appearances this season, and he wasn’t hot in Triple-A of late. The Guardians will likely turn to him against lefties, but he’ll probably be on the bench versus most right-handers.

The 23-year-old slugger was up with the big league club for a couple of days while Kyle Manzardo was on the family medical emergency list, though he went hitless in four at-bats in his limited action. Noel will return to an everyday role at Triple-A Columbus where he’ll continue to refine his craft.

Noel returns to the majors with Kyle Manzardo away from the club for the next couple days to deal with a family medical emergency. The 23-year-old slugger was demoted back in early June to Triple-A Columbus after hitting .146/.168/.223 with two homers and nine RBI in 107 plate appearances over 46 games.

Noel had played 26 games at first base in the minor leagues last year, but has been used almost exclusively in the outfield or at DH in the majors. The 260 pound Noel was optioned to Triple-A at the beginning of the month after hitting .146/.168/.223 with two homers and nine RBI in 107 plate appearances for the Guardians, so there is certainly more to work on for him than defense. However, with Chase DeLauter nearing his MLB debut and C.J. Kayfus now working out in the outfield, Noel’s best shot at MLB at-bats may be as a short side platoon with Kyle Manzardo at first base.

The homers were the two hardest balls hit in Triple-A games Thursday, leaving his bat at 113.1 and 112.2 mph. The Guardians had the right idea in getting Noel regular at-bats in Triple-A for a spell, but the 23-year-old should be back to help out at least against lefties in the second half.

Noel has been relegated bench role this season and has struggled mightily when given opportunities, hitting .146/.168/.223 with two homers and nine RBI in 107 plate appearances over 46 games. The 23-year-old slugger will attempt to re-discover his form while playing everyday at the Triple-A level. He’s a non-factor for fantasy purposes at the moment, but does boast significant power upside, if he ever fully puts it together.

It’s a rare opportunity for Noel, who is batting .169 (12-for-71) with two homers and nine RBI across 30 games this season. The 23-year-old boasts immense raw power, but there aren’t a ton of avenues for him to get into Cleveland’s lineup on a regular basis.

Noel rode the pine for eight straight games prior to this stretch. He returned to the lineup Apr. 23 against a lefty — the only lefty that the Guardians have faced since Apr. 13 — and now has started four of six games against righties at the expense of Nolan Jones and Angel Martínez. The Guardians still don’t entirely trust Noel; they prioritized contact and had Martínez pinch-hit for him in the 11th inning today, leading to a game-winning single. Noel has gone 4-for-20 with two homers and eight strikeouts during the stretch of starts, so he’s not really guaranteed much of anything yet.

Noel entered the day with a .167/.200/.190 line in 45 plate appearances, which is why he’s only been playing a lefties. The Guardians could give him time over the struggling Carlos Santana if they want to get him going, but we’re not optimistic it will happen. The club isn’t slated to face any lefties for at least a week, so it could be right back to the bench for Noel.
