The 27-year-old Oviedo missed all of 2024 after undergoing Tommy John surgery and then was delayed to start 2025 with a lat strain. However, he posted a 3.57 ERA in nine starts in 2025 while showing off an upper-90s fastball and improved shapes on his two-seam and four-seam fastball. Pair that with a slider that has been a plus pitch for him, and teams see the makings of a solid back-of-the-rotation starter. Rosenthal reports that the Pirates would much rather trade Mitch Keller and his $54.5 million salary over the next three years, but both right-handers are names to watch this offseason.

Oviedo, 27, gave up both runs in the first inning on a homer by Ronald Acuña Jr. After that, the right-hander was solid; albeit in a game where he received no run support. Oviedo finishes with an ERA of 3.57 in 2025 with a 42/23 K/BB over nine starts. If he’s still with Pittsburgh, he’ll compete for a spot at the back of their rotation in 2026.

Oviedo was pulled with a 4-2 lead after walking TJ Friedl with two outs and the bases empty in the fifth. Friedl was then caught stealing to end the inning, which meant that Dauri Moreta, who didn’t come back out for the sixth, ended his night with one out recorded and no batters retired. Oviedo probably won’t pitch again this weekend, as the Pirates have handled him carefully in his return from Tommy John. He ends up 2-0 with a 3.57 ERA and 39 strikeouts over 35 1/3 innings in eight starts. Given his arbitration status and the Pirates’ pitching depth, he’s someone who could be involved in trade talks this winter.

Oviedo was solid for four of the five innings, and while an 80 percent success rate is good for a lot of things in life, its not ideal for a starting pitcher; especially when that one bad inning is a four-run first. Oviedo allowed five hits, walked three and struck out three in the mediocre — at best — effort. He’ll try and find the form that was so good in his previous few outings against the Reds on Thursday.

Oviedo allowed single runs in the first two innings, but the kept the Orioles quiet the rest of the way. He’s 2-0 with a 2.19 ERA in five starts since moving into the rotation last month. The Pirates have to be feeling pretty good about their starting pitching depth going into 2026. It’s just a matter of whether they’ll use any of it to try to improve their anemic offense. Oviedo will face the Cubs next week.

Oviedo had to fight through some adversity right off the bat when the often sure-handed Jared Triolo booted a ball in the first that brought home a run and left runners on second and third with one out. That was it though, as the Brewers couldn’t push across another run and Oviedo felt in control for the rest of this outing. He forced 10 swings-and-misses including four with his slider and used that as his primary pitch. It’s been an encouraging handful of starts since he came off the injured list and will try to keep the momentum going next time out against the Nationals.

Oviedo tossed two scoreless frames before giving up a solo homer to Carlos Narváez in the third. A walk and a base hit brought a second run in for Boston in the fourth inning. Oviedo gave the Pirates one more scoreless frame, ending his day with six strikeouts over five innings. The 27-year-old right-hander has pitched well in his return from Tommy John surgery, with a 3.60 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 20/8 K/BB ratio across 15 innings over four starts. He’ll take on the Brewers in Pittsburgh on Friday.

Oviedo struck out five and walked one while throwing just 53 pitches as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery. The 27-year-old is an intriguing arm for fantasy leagues. He sat 95.4 mph on his for-seam fastball with elite extension. He also has a vicious slider that can be a wipeout pitch when he commands it and a five-pitch mix overall. The pitch count ceiling is a bummer for Oviedo’s fantasy value, so he’s not an immediate add, especially with a start against Boston coming this weekend.

The 27-year-old hurler has made two starts for the Pirates this season, posting a 4.50 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 9/4 K/BB ratio over six innings of work. It’s a decent matchup for streaming purposes, though it’s unclear how deeply Oviedo will work into the ballgame, so his chances of earning a victory could be diminished.

This was probably going to be a spot start for Oviedo, but he made a nice case for sticking around. After giving up a homer to George Springer to begin the ballgame, he allowed only one hit and one walk the rest of the way. It’s his first big-league win since Sept. 21, 2023, which was about three months before he underwent Tommy John surgery.

Oviedo is getting a start against the Blue Jays today and then will likely head back to Triple-A to make room for Bubba Chandler on the roster. It’ll be his second major league appearance since Tommy John surgery that took place prior to the 2024 season.

Oviedo was charged with two runs during his lone inning of work on Monday night in his first big-league outing since September 27, 2023. The 27-year-old righty needed 43 pitches to get through the opening frame of his season debut. The Pirates are going to ship his back to the minors to bring in some bullpen help.

Oviedo was making his return from Tommy John surgery after almost two years without appearing on a major league mound. The outing didn’t go as planned for the 27-year-old right-hander. Oviedo barely made it through the first inning, needing 43 pitches to do so. The Pirates decided to call it a day at that point and essentially pivoted to a bullpen game. He’s lined up to face the Reds at home this weekend. Oviedo is more of a guy to put on your watch list than even on your bench at this point.

Oviedo will take the ball on Monday night against the Tigers for his first start in the majors since September 27, 2023. The 27-year-old righty has missed the last year and a half recovering from Tommy John surgery. We’re advising more of a wait-and-see approach for fantasy purposes, but it’s worth noting that Oviedo was a relevant mixed-league option at times earlier in his career.

The 27-year-old hurler has made six minor league rehab starts to this point, registering a 3.12 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and a 21/4 K/BB ratio over 17 1/3 innings. It’s unclear how deep he’ll be able to work in that first start, but with Bailey Falter dealt to the Royals and no viable replacements available, he should have a shot to stick around in the Pirates’ rotation.

Oh great, another option for the Pirates to call up instead of Bubba Chandler. Oviedo was placed on the 60-day IL back in March after battling both lat and elbow issues in the spring. The 27-year-old struck out five and didn’t walk anybody on Tuesday while throwing 42 of 62 pitches for strikes. He now has a 3.12 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with a 21/4 K/BB ratio across 17 1/3 innings during his rehab and could be activated as soon as next week.
