O’Hoppe returns to Los Angeles’ lineup prior to Tuesday’s series opener against the Brewers after missing exactly one week with a concussion. The 25-year-old backstop has launched 19 home runs across 109 games this season, but a lackluster .217 batting average has dragged down his fantasy appeal.

The 25-year-old backstop has been sidelined since September 8 after he was struck by the backswing of Jacob Wilson. Prior to landing on the injured list, he was hitting .217/.260/.386 with 19 homers, 43 RBI, two stolen bases and a 133/21 K/BB ratio over 416 plate appearances.

O’Hoppe will get some additional time off to rest and recover after suffering a freak head injury during Sunday’s game against the Athletics when he was struck by a warmup backswing from rookie Jacob Wilson. It’ll be Travis d’Arnaud and Sebastian Rivero handling the catching duties in his absence.

Both Angels catchers had brutal months of August, with O’Hoppe’s .363 OPS actually topping d’Arnaud’s .337 mark. O’Hoppe still figures to finish out the year as the Angels’ starting catcher, but he’s been enough of a disappointment offensively and defensively this year that it’s worth questioning whether he should be handed the job in 2026.

The big fly was a 407 foot shot that left the bat at 103.9 mph for his 19th home run of the season. It was also only O’Hoppe’s second home run of the second half. The 25-year-old has not had the breakout season that many were hoping for and has gone just 18-for-82 (.219) in 23 games in the second half with two home runs, six RBI, and a 25/5 K/BB ratio. He’s exclusively a two-catcher league option.

O’Hoppe swatted a two-run homer off Brandon Walter in the third, and then went deep again with a runner on in the seventh off Kaleb Ort. The 25-year-old backstop is up to 16 homers in 2025, and they’re the first homers O’Hoppe has hit in the month of June. Perhaps this is the game that gets him going again, as he was hitting an ugly .089/.128/.111 in the month prior to Saturday’s game.

O’Hoppe has really struggled with the bat since the end of May, and the 25-year-old will begin Wednesday’s contest on the bench with Travis d’Arnaud behind the plate.

O’Hoppe’s plate discipline issues haven’t stopped him from posting a .799 OPS this season, but the strikeouts are really piling up of late. He’s fanned at least twice in each of his last five starts, and it’s been three weeks since he started a game and didn’t strike out at least once. He has a 35.1 percent strikeout rate for the season, up from 29.7 percent last year. Only Michael Toglia, who was just sent down by the Rockies, has a higher strikeout rate among qualified hitters. O’Hoppe’s power production is up, too, but it’s hard not to think that the strikeouts will catch up to him at some point.

As expected, O’Hoppe is back in Los Angeles’ lineup after clearing concussion protocol. The 25-year-old backstop sat out Tuesday’s game out of an abundance of caution after being hit in the head by a backswing during the late stages of Monday’s series opener. He’s been on fire at the dish of late, going deep five times over his last 11 contests since May 17.

No surprise here following O’Hoppe’s precautionary exit from Monday’s game against the Yankees after being struck in the head by a backswing. The 25-year-old is listed on Los Angeles’ lineup card, so he’s not headed to the injured list ahead of Tuesday’s contest. It’ll be veteran Travis d’Arnaud behind the plate in his absence. We’re anticipating the Angels will proceed with an abundance of caution with one of their emerging stars, but it sounds like he’s managed to avoid serious injury. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

Angels manager Ron Washington told reporters following O’Hoppe’s early exit that the 25-year-old backstop wants to play on Tuesday night, but they don’t want to take any chances and will evaluate him for a possible concussion. He was hit in the head on a swing by Yankees rookie Jorbit Vivas in the eighth inning before coming out of the game an inning later. He’s been one of the hottest hitters in baseball recently, hitting .308 (8-for-26) with four homers and seven RBI over his last seven games. There should be a definitive update on his status prior to Tuesday’s showdown in Los Angeles.

It’s a routine off day for both O’Hoppe and Neto to close out a series in Sacramento. O’Hoppe has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the past week, batting .370 (10-for-27) with four homers over his last seven games. It’ll be Travis d’Arnaud handling the catching duties with Kevin Newman at shortstop.

O’Hoppe put the Angels on the board with a solo homer off Gunnar Hoglund in the fourth inning, his 11th of the season. He then drove in a second run with a base hit in the fifth to give the Angels the lead. The 25-year-old catcher is slashing a strong .264/.296/.500 with the 11 homers and 25 RBI across 152 plate appearances.

O’Hoppe gave the Angels a 2-0 lead in the first with a two-run single off Clayton Kershaw. The biggest blow came in the seventh, however, as he hit a three-run homer to turn a 7-6 deficit into a 9-7 lead and gave O’Hoppe his 10th homer of the 2025 campaign. The 25-year-old’s .254 average and .289 on-base percentage don’t inspire, but the power is legitimate, and makes him a solid — if flawed — fantasy option.

The hard-hitting backstop opened the scoring in the ballgame in the second inning with a 408-foot (102.4 mph EV) solo shot off of Casey Mize. He also led off the fourth inning with a single but was ultimately erased on a double play. The 25-year-old has been outstanding to start the 2025 season, slashing .280/.309/.581 with nine homers and 15 RBI.

O’Hoppe tagged Louis Varland for a 412-foot (109.2 mph EV) solo shot in the sixth inning that pulled the Angels to within six runs at 9-3. That would be his only hit in the ballgame. He’s off to a terrific start at the plate once again this season, slashing .280/.299/.573 with seven long balls and 12 RBI.

O’Hoppe returned to Los Angeles’ lineup for Thursday’s series finale against the Rangers following a three-game absence dating back to last weekend due to an unspecified illness. The positive news for fantasy managers is that he’s feeling better and back handling the catching duties.

O’Hoppe’s absence comes as a moderate surprise after he expressed optimism ahead of Tuesday’s series opener that he’d be ready for Wednesday’s showdown. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. It’ll be Travis d’Arnaud handling the catching duties for the third straight contest in his absence.
