Ohl returns to the big leagues with Minnesota moving on from veteran reliever Brooks Kriske. The 25-year-old rookie has posted a pedestrian 5.66 ERA and 16/5 K/BB ratio across 20 2/3 innings over seven appearances (three starts) since making his big-league debut back on July 29.

The 25-year-old right-hander also issued a pair of walks while striking out just one batter in the contest. He was hurt by his defense during a five-run first inning, as Luke Keaschall booted a would-be double play ball that opened up the flood gates and led to four unearned runs. Ohl got four whiffs on 67 pitches on the night, posting a miserable CSW of only 15 percent. He’ll carry a 7.90 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and a 10/5 K/BB ratio (13 2/3 innings) into Thursday’s matchup against the Athletics.

Ohl made his first MLB start, and it didn’t go particularly well. He did strike out three, but of the four hits he allowed, three of them went over the fence. Ohl can provide value to an MLB staff as a multi-inning arm, but it’s hard to picture him ever having fantasy value. It’s worth noting Thomas Hatch was excellent in relief with 4 2/3 scoreless innings, and it could be Hatch and not Ohl who makes his next appearance as a starter.

Ohl made his MLB debut Wednesday with three innings of four-run baseball, and he’s able to return a couple days later after Minnesota whacked a third of it’s roster in deals. Ohl could make starts, but he’s very much a streamer at best for the final two months of the campaign.

Ohl allowed four runs over three innings in his MLB debut on Tuesday in a loss to the Red Sox. However, he also struck out four and showed off an elite changeup. While his long-term MLB future may be as a long reliever, he has had plenty of success in the minors this season and figures to get another shot later this year.
