Olson previously told reporters he was aiming to make it back to Detroit’s rotation for the postseason, but that seems to be a bit optimistic given how much progress he would need to make in the next week or so. The 26-year-old hit the shelf back in early August with a right shoulder strain that required a PRP injection.

Olson expressed optimism earlier this week that he’ll make it back to Detroit’s postseason rotation after managing to avoid season-ending surgery. The 26-year-old righty won’t pitch again during the regular season, but he could be back on a big-league mound again if the Tigers make a deep postseason push.

Olson told reporters Monday that he received a positive that he won’t require shoulder surgery and believes it’s possible for him to make it back for the postseason. There’s nothing definitive regarding an exact timetable, and he’s still expected to miss the rest of the regular season. It certainly sounds like he’ll be an option for Detroit at some point during the playoffs, especially if they make a deep postseason run.

Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris announced Monday that Olson will miss the remainder of the season. The injury revelation came shortly after acquiring starter Chris Paddack in a trade with the division-rival Twins. Olson is unlikely to return before the end of the regular season, though there’s still a chance he could be available for the postseason. The 25-year-old right-hander finishes with a career-best 3.15 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 65/25 K/BB ratio across 68 2/3 innings (13 starts), and can be safely dropped in all redraft formats.

The right-hander walked two and struck out four batters on the night. He had shut the Blue Jays out on three hits heading to the fifth inning, but after allowing a one-out walk to George Springer, the wheels fell off the train. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. smacked an RBI double, Addison Barger was walked intentionally and Ernie Clement followed with a go-ahead three-run homer. Joey Loperfido then clobbered a solo homer to chase Olson from the game. The 25-year-old hurler got nine whiffs on 95 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 27 percent. He’ll attempt to bounce back as he brings a 3.15 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 65/25 K/BB ratio (68 2/3 innings) into Tuesday’s battle against the Diamondbacks.

The 25-year-old hurler scattered just two hits and one walk on the evening. The only real threat against him came in the third inning as the Rangers put runners at the corners with only one out, but Olson rallied to get Josh Smith on a fly ball to left field and Corey Seager on strikes to end the threat. He got 13 whiffs on 90 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 30 percent. He’ll carry a stellar 2.71 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 61/23 K/BB ratio (63 innings) into Wednesday’s showdown against the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

No word yet on the scheduled starter for Saturday, though it has been confirmed that Tarik Skubal will take the mound for Sunday’s series finale. Casey Mize seems the most likely to slot in on Saturday with Jack Flaherty and Keider Montero rounding out the rotation against the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Monday and Tuesday.

Olson exited with a one-run lead, only to watch the Rays score four times in the sixth. Maybe the Tigers could have stuck with Olson for a little longer, but he was at 84 pitches in his second start back from the IL. He hasn’t been allowed to throw more than 94 pitches in a start this year, though that obviously didn’t prevent him from hurting his finger in May. Olson finishes the first half 4-3 with a 2.95 ERA. Hopefully, the lack of wear on his arm will help him stay strong into September.

Olson struck out three batters on the evening while issuing only one base on balls. He struggled a bit his first time through the order and served up a solo homer to Jose Ramirez in the opening inning, but he ultimately settled in nicely and kept the Guardians off the board the rest of the way. He threw just 52 of his 89 pitches for strikes, generating 13 swings and misses while posting a CSW of 30 percent. He’ll carry a 2.89 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 54/20 K/BB ratio (53 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Rays.

Olson is activated and will start Friday’s game against the Guardians. The 25-year-old will be making his first appearance sins May 17, but he’s been an effective option when healthy with a 2.96 ERA through 48 2/3 innings over nine starts.

Olson was expected to make his next start in the big league rotation after striking out five in four innings on 74 pitches in his Triple-A rehab start last Wednesday. With Sawyer Gipson-Long (neck) landing on the IL today, that need for Olson to come back got even greater. Even in a potentially solid matchup against the Guardians, we’d rather keep Olson on the bench for his first outing off the IL. He relies on command of his changeup and slider to be successful and recovering from a finger injury could mean that the feel of those pitches is a little off in his first few starts. He’s worth scooping if he’s available in your league, but he’s a risky start this weekend.

Hinch added that Olson got through Wednesday’s 74-pitch rehab tune-up without any issues, but the club wants to have him re-evaluated later this week following another bullpen session to ensure he’s 100 percent ready before clearing him to return. Barring something unexpected, he should be back in Detroit’s rotation mix at some point early next week.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters Olson could return as early as July 1 against the Nationals, if that outing goes well. The 25-year-old righty has been out since mid-May with right ring finger inflammation. This will be his third, and likely final, rehab start.

The 25-year-old hurler threw 58 pitches his last time out at Triple-A Toledo on Thursday and they want him to be stretched out a bit more before jumping back into the big league rotation. Olson has been shelved since mid-May due to inflammation in his right ring finger. That means Keider Montero and Sawyer Gipson-Long should stick around for at least another week in the club’s rotation.

Olson put his changeup back into the mix last night after avoiding throwing it previously because of the inflammation in his right ring finger. He might need one more rehab start to keep stretching out after throwing 58 pitches in this one, but he’s close to returning to Detroit’s rotation.

Olson is expected to begin throwing his changeup again during the session, which is the final obstacle he needs to clear before he’s ready to rejoin Detroit’s rotation mix. Olson is expected to incorporate his changeup into his next throwing session later this weekend, which is the final hurdle before he’s cleared to rejoin Detroit’s rotation mix. The 25-year-old received an injection to address inflammation in his right ring finger earlier this week and is trending towards being ready to return at some point in the next week or two. There should be some official clarity on his status after his next throwing session. It’ll be Sawyer Gipson-Long continuing to occupy his rotation spot.

The 25-year-old right-hander threw a bullpen session on Saturday, and while things went well he still wasn’t able to throw his changeup. Hinch noted that Olson needs to be able to throw his changeup before he’s cleared to return. It’s sounding more and more likely that Sawyer Gipson-Long will start in Jackson Jobe’s (elbow) spot in the rotation on Tuesday with Olson potentially rejoining the rotation over the weekend if he’s ready to go by then.

Olson remains confident that he’ll require only a minimum stint on the injured list and with Jackson Jobe (elbow) sidelined, the Tigers could certainly use the boost to their rotation that Olson’s return would provide. The 25-year-old right-hander has been shelved since May 18 due to inflammation in his right ring finger.

McGuire gets the nod over top prospect Moises Ballesteros to replace catcher Miguel Amaya on Chicago’s roster ahead of Sunday’s game against the Reds. The decision appears largely motivated by legitimate questions surrounding Ballesteros’ defensive abilities. He’ll remain stationed at the Triple-A level where he’ll continue playing everyday until a more permanent opportunity arises.

Olson will be re-evaluated later this week to determine whether he’ll be cleared to resume throwing. The 25-year-old righty hit the injured list earlier this week and doesn’t figure to require a lengthy absence. There’s a chance he’s back in Detroit’s rotation at some point in early June.

It’s official. Olson heads to the injured list after making an early exit from Saturday’s start against the Blue Jays following six shutout innings with a right finger issue. The Tigers clearly don’t want to take any chances with his long-term health, so they’re going to give him a couple weeks off to put the issue to bed. The 25-year-old righty has pitched to a strong 2.96 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 51/19 K/BB ratio across 48 2/3 innings (nine starts). No word yet on how Detroit will fill his rotation spot, but it sounds like Casey Mize will be ready to return later this week.

Nothing official from the Tigers yet. McCosky adds that it’ll be a bullpen game on Wednesday against the Cardinals in place of Olson’s scheduled start. The 25-year-old righty was lifted from his last start on Saturday against the Blue Jays after six scoreless innings due to right ring finger irritation. There should be some clarity on his status at some point soon, but fantasy managers should prepare for Olson to miss at least a couple starts.

Olson struck out five, walked one, and gave up three extra-base hits on the day. The right-hander has a mediocre four-seam fastball, so he relies heavily on his changeup and slider for success. He struggled to command his changeup today, and he needs both of those secondaries working for him to handle a lineup like Texas’. Things will get a little easier next week against Toronto, and Olson can handle anybody when those two seconaries are working, so he’s worth rostering in most formats.

The 25-year-old hurler walked three while scattering three hits on the afternoon. The only real threat that the Halos mounted against him came in the opening inning as the Angels loaded the bases with two outs, but Olson managed to punch out Luis Rengifo to end the threat. He generated 18 swings and misses on 94 pitches on the day — eight of them on his changeup — while posting a solid CSW of 31 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine effort as he carries a 3.03 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 40/17 K/BB ratio (38 2/3 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Rangers.

The 25-year-old hurler punched out five batters on the evening while allowing two free passes. The Royals put their first two men on against him to start the game and also loaded the bases with one out in the fourth inning but weren’t able to scratch out a single run against him. Olson generated 10 whiffs on 87 pitches on the night — eight of them on his changeup — while posting a CSW of 32 percent. He’ll try to build off of his strongest start of the season as he carries a 4.50 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and an 18/10 K/BB ratio (20 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Padres.

Olson also issued three walks on the night while striking out three. He threw just 48 of his 90 pitches for strikes in the ballgame, which contributed to his early exit. The Twins scratched out a run against him in the second inning on an RBI single off the bat of Ty France, then broke the game open with three more in the fifth while chasing him. Olson got 10 swings and misses on 90 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 23 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he brings a 6.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and a 13/8 K/BB ratio (15 innings) into Wednesday’s battle against the Brewers in Milwaukee.
