The Yankees jumped all over Povich here. They had five runs over the first two innings, including home runs by José Caballero and Ben Rice, and rarely looked uncomfortable in the box. He tried to start this game out by going fastball heavy, but the Yankee bats found no problem lacing it all over the field. He entered this game with a 2.19 ERA and left with a 4.41 ERA. Also, he’s struck out just 11 batters and walked five through 16 1/3 innings so far this season. He’s scheduled to face the Marlins in Miami next time out.

As anticipated, Povich will start on Friday evening against the Yankees in place of Trevor Rogers (illness). The 26-year-old southpaw has looked sharp in two appearances (one start) for the O’s this season, posting a 2.19 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 7/3 K/BB ratio across 12 1/3 innings. With Brandon Young struggling, Povich has the added motivation of pitching to stick in the team’s rotation once Rogers is ready to return. He’s worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.

With Trevor Rogers (illness) on the injured list, Povich will have the opportunity to make at least a couple of starts in the Orioles’ rotation. With as well as he pitched in his start, he could make a case to stick around even longer if he continues to dominate. He’s at least worth a short-term look in deeper mixed leagues.

Since being sent back to Triple-A on April 13th, Povich has allowed two runs on eight hits in 11 2/3 innings while striking out 15 and walking two. Baltimore’s starting pitchers rank 22nd in baseball in ERA and 21st in strikeout rate, so they may opt to make a change if this continues into May.

Povich had a solid start on Sunday against the Giants, but with Dean Kremer now up to take a spot in the rotation, the Orioles can send Povich back down to Triple-A. The left-hander should be the next man up if the Orioles need another starter.

Povich racked up five strikeouts on the afternoon and didn’t allow a base on balls. The 26-year-old hurler retired the first 12 hitters to start the game until Casey Schmitt legged out an infield single. He then came around to score the lone run against Povich on a two-out RBI single off the bat of Daniel Susac. Povich generated 17 whiffs on 97 pitches on the day — seven of those on his curveball — while posting a CSW of 30 percent. With Dean Kremer set to join the O’s rotation on Monday, it’ll be interesting to see if the team proceeds with a six-man operation for a while or if Povich’s spot could be in jeopardy. He holds a terrific 2.19 ERA and 0.97 WHIP over his first 12 1/3 innings on the season.

The expectation when Zach Eflin hit the injured list was that Dean Kremer would get the first shot at replacing him in the O’s starting rotation. It looks like it’ll be Povich instead though who draws that assignment. The 25-year-old southpaw struggled in his first start at the Triple-A level this season, giving up five runs over five innings, though he did record eight strikeouts. He draws a strong matchup against the White Sox in Chicago on Monday and could be worth a look as a streaming option for fantasy purposes.

There are some technical hurdles the Orioles will need to navigate in the coming days, but it seems logical that Povich will be an option to start Monday’s series opener against the White Sox in place of an injured Zach Eflin (elbow). The assumption was that Dean Kremer would get the call, but it sounds like Povich is going to get the first shot here.

Povich was in the running for a spot in Baltimore’s season-opening rotation this spring but struggled to a 4.32 ERA and 6/7 K/BB ratio across 8 1/3 innings in Grapefruit League action. The 25-year-old southpaw will open the year back in the minors with veterans Zach Eflin and Dean Kremer occupying the final spots in the Orioles’ rotation mix.

The left-hander also struck out four, but he walked five and threw only 52 percent of his pitches for strikes. Even with his four strikeouts, he had just a 14 percent whiff rate, so it seems like he was more effectively wild than anything today. He’s going to start the season in Triple-A, and it’s hard to count on him for worthwhile MLB innings this year.

Povich got nine groundouts to go along with one lineout and one strikeout today. Unfortunately, his nice spring to date doesn’t seem likely to go him any good. He’s seventh or eighth on the Orioles’ SP depth chart and is bound to head to Triple-A initially.

He allowed one hit, walked one and struck out one before departing. The Orioles’ additions have knocked Povich down to seventh or eighth on the SP depth chart for now, so he’s probably Triple-A bound to start the year. Still, it’s important that he pitch well and avoid getting passed by anyone else.

It’s a procedural move to free up an additional roster spot after Povich was lit up for five runs over 5 2/3 innings on Thursday against the Rays in his final regular-season outing. The 25-year-old finishes an underwhelming campaign with an inflated 5.21 ERA and 118/43 K/BB ratio across 112 1/3 innings over 22 appearances (20 starts).

Generating soft contact and six whiffs, Povich’s curve was effective the 39 times he threw it today. The other 60 pitches, however, left much to be desired. Three different Rays hit balls at least 110 mph off him. Povich finishes up 3-8 with a 5.21 ERA in 112 1/3 innings. As a rookie last year, he was 3-9 with a 5.20 ERA in 79 2/3 innings. Assuming that the Orioles add at least a little rotation help this winter, Povich should open 2026 back in Triple-A.

Povich also issued four free passes on the evening while striking out five. The Yankees pushed two runs across against him in the opening inning on a two-run double by Amed Rosario. Povich then kept them off the board until the fifth inning where Austin Wells chipped in an RBI single. Povich got nine whiffs on 89 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll look to bounce back and finish the 2025 campaign on a high note as he totes a 5.06 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a 114/41 K/BB ratio (106 2/3 innings) into Thursday’s showdown against the Rays.

Povich got 17 whiffs today. His 25% strikeout rate this season has been a really nice surprise, but since he’s given up 17 homers in 101 2/3 innings, his ERA stands at 5.05. It also hasn’t helped that he’s been far worse with runners on than with the bases empty. He’ll likely next face the White Sox on Wednesday.

Povich was hardly dominant, but he got through five scoreless today before things unraveled in the sixth. He gave up a single and a homer to start the frame yet was still left in to allow one more hit and two walks before finally being pulled with a 7-2 lead. Keegan Akin came in with the bases loaded and no outs and stranded one of three runners. Povich moved to 3-7 with a 5.16 ERA. He’ll probably face the Pirates next week, though with days off Thursday and Monday, the Orioles could choose to skip him.

It looked initially like the Red Sox had something on Povich; his first inning consisted of five pitches, four of which were hit at least 100 mph. Fortunately for Povich, the second of those was a double-play ball, erasing Roman Anthony and making Trevor Story’s subsequent homer less painful. The rest of the outing was pretty quiet, aside from a Rob Refsnyder solo shot in the fourth. He left with the score tied, so he remained 0-2 with a 4.78 ERA in five starts since being recalled. With the Orioles going to a six-man rotation, Povich should make his next start Wednesday against the Padres.

This was a bad start by Povich, but one where the box score doesn’t tell the full story. For starters, those two unearned runs on his ledger were from his own throwing error on a bunt from Chas McCormick that brought a run home. Then, Jeremy Peña took him deep for a three-run blast on an awful hanging curveball in the following at-bat. Things calmed down a bit until the fifth inning. He retired the first two batters, then let Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve on base before he was pulled for Yennier Cano. He promptly allowed a three-run homer to Christian Walker which added the final two runs to Povich’s ledger. Again, it was some good and some bad, but some very bad breaking ball command that ultimately did him in. His next start will come at home against the Red Sox.

Povich worked behind opener Rico Garcia, and while it wasn’t always perfect for the 25-year-old, the decision appeared to pay off. The left-hander was able to miss bats, and outside of a labrous fourth inning, he looked the part. Povich will likely work in a similar capacity against the Astros again Friday.

The Astros typically have just one lefty (Jesús Sánchez) in the top half of the lineup, so going with the right-handed opener makes some sense. It’ll be Povich’s second time pitching in a bulk role; he’s started 30 of his 31 major league appearances since debuting last year.

Povich gave up four hits, walked one and struck out seven. The Phillies are a good lineup, but they aren’t immune to striking out. Povich allowed home runs to Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, but he also struck out seven batters in his first start in almost two months. Povich has a 5.25 ERA, but a 3.89 xFIP, which suggests he could be a matchup-dependent streamer in mixed leagues. He lines up to face the Athletics at home this weekend.

He’ll start against the Phillies tonight in his return. Povich had been out since mid-June with left hip inflammation. The 25-year-old had a 4.15 ERA and a 15/3 K/BB over 13 innings in three Triple-A starts over the last 2 1/2 weeks.

Povich shouldn’t have any limitations from a pitch count perspective after tossing 86 during his final rehab outing on Tuesday for Triple-A Norfolk. The 25-year-old righty has been on the shelf since mid-June working his way back from a hip injury. He’s talented enough to make an impact for fantasy managers, but a wait-and-see approach is advisable since he’s compiled a pedestrian 5.18 ERA across 29 appearances (28 starts) in the big leagues over the last two seasons.

Povich got up to 62 pitches (40 strikes) in his latest rehab outing as he continues to work his way back from a hip injury that put him on the shelf back in mid-June. The 25-year-old lefty should be in play to rejoin Baltimore’s rotation mix at some point in the next few weeks.

Povich was placed on the injured list with his hip injury on June 16, but then aggravated the injury before a June 26 rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk. He’s now started his rehab assignment up again and will likely make his next start at Triple-A over the weekend. However, with Trevor Rogers pitching well in the rotation and Zach Eflin also nearing a return from the IL, there may be no immediate spot for Povich at the big league level.
