Peterson’s horrible season just keeps getting worse. The first two batters of the game got hits off him and both came around to score. However, the real avalanche came in the fourth inning. Peterson walked three – including one to push a run home with the bases loaded on his final batter – and allowed two hits. All in all, two runs came home. Then Sean Manaea promptly hit his first batter before allowing a loud grand slam to Brady House. Even the context of two inherited runners scoring does little to help our opinion of Peterson who now has a 6.53 ERA and may not have a safe spot in the Mets’ rotation moving forward.

Peterson left in line for the win today, but that was spoiled in the ninth inning. Maybe because he knew he wouldn’t be expected to throw 90-100 pitches, Peterson’s velocity was up 1-1.5 mph today. He had just one strikeout and one whiff, but he also allowed little hard contact. It’s unclear how the Mets will exactly proceed with Peterson now, but that he’s in line to pitch at home against the Rockies next weekend makes him a streaming possibility.

Peterson is still likely to pitch in a bulk role. Myers has topped out at three innings so far, throwing a total of 13 innings with a 3.46 ERA in six appearances. This seems like good news for those intending to use Peterson on Sunday, since it makes it more likely he’ll earn a win. It might not be great news for Peterson’s long-term value, though, just because the Mets seem rather down on him at this point.

Peterson, 30, allowed an RBI single to Will Smith in the first inning, but the big blow was a three-run shot to Andy Pages two innings later. He was solid over the second half of the start, but damage done; particularly with the Mets providing a goose egg of run support while he was in the game. Peterson has an unhealthy 6.41 ERA over his four starts, and he’ll have a chance to get things going in the right direction Sunday against the Cubs.

At first, this looked like it would be a catastrophic outing by Peterson. The Diamondbacks put up five runs over the first two innings and scorched seven hard-hit balls on their way to doing so. Yet, Peterson wound up settling in and retired 10 of the final 11 batters he faced. A bit of an oddity for Peterson, he opted for his four-seam fastball rather than his sinker as the game wore on and that yielded better results. He’ll take an ugly 6.14 ERA into a date with the Dodgers next Monday.

The 30-year-old left-hander struck out five batters on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. The Giants got to him early and often in this one, striking for three runs in the opening inning including an RBI triple by Luis Arraez. They also scratched out another pair of runs in the third inning and added another while chasing Peterson in the fifth. He generated eight swings and misses on 68 pitches on the night, posting a strong CSW of 34 percent. He’ll attempt to put this one behind him and get back on track as he carries a 4.66 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and an 8/4 K/BB ratio (9 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Diamondbacks.

Peterson did an excellent job managing traffic while holding the Pirates scoreless over 5 1/3 innings. He scattered six hits and two walks while striking out three and generating nine groundouts. One thing to note was his 90 mph average fastball velocity, down a couple of ticks from 92.3 mph last season. The 30-year-old left-hander will make his next start against the Giants in San Francisco on Thursday.

Peterson’s average fastball came in at 90.7 mph today, down from 91.6 mph previously this spring, 92.2 mph last year and 93.1 mph in 2024. There was never any doubt that he’d open up in the Mets rotation, and the team has picked him as one of their five starters with Sean Manaea opening up in the pen. However, Peterson’s history of being effective as a reliever might work against him if he doesn’t get off to a nice start. He’ll take his first regular-season turn Saturday against the Pirates.

Peterson was making his first official spring start after pitching three scoreless innings against Team Israel last week. He gave up a homer to Nelson Velázquez in the first, but it was smooth sailing from there. Although he disappointed some in finishing with a 4.22 ERA last year and the Mets currently have more than six starters to choose from, he wouldn’t seem to be in any current danger of being bumped to the pen.

Peterson’s fastball velocity today was down about 1.5 mph from last year, but his other pitches were right around his 2025 norms and he was obviously effective. He got nine whiffs on the 20 swings against him, and none of the four balls that Team Israel put into player were hit harder than 90 mph.

Peterson was a slightly below average starter last year, but he’s still getting a $3.475 million raise after going 9-6 with a 4.22 ERA in 30 starts. He’ll surely open up his walk year in the rotation, but if he falters again, there’s a chance the Mets’ pitching depth could push him to the pen at some point.

Sammon makes it clear that the Mets aren’t actively shopping Peterson, but they would move the 2025 All-Star if it helps them fill needs elsewhere, likely to acquire an outfielder to replace Brandon Nimmo. Since coming back from hip surgery after the 2023 season, Peterson has a 3.67 ERA in just under 300 innings and is likely to earn $7.6 million in arbitration in 2026, so he would be extremely affordable for whatever team wanted to acquire him. That also means the Mets would “hold a high asking price” in any deal.

Peterson surrendered two runs in the first on a single, a walk and a fly to right that Juan Soto turned into a double. The second started with a walk and three hits that surrounded a sac bunt, and the Mets pulled him at that point. He probably would have gotten a chance to recover if this didn’t make for five subpar outings in a row, but the team has obviously lost some faith in him. He’s not nearly so far gone that he should be ruled out going forward, but it’ll be fascinating to see the Mets’ pitching decisions from here on in. While Peterson is due to start Sunday against the Marlins, it’s anyone’s guess whether that will happen.

Peterson’s disastrous second half continued here. He allowed runs in each of the first two innings, but seemed to settle in reasonably well afterwards. That is, until a mammoth grand slam from Manny Machado in the fifth inning on a 3-2 curveball that caught far too much of the plate. It turned Peterson’s line from palatable to awful and the circumstances by which he got there were even more frustrating. He hit Jake Cronenworth with two strikes, walked Fernando Tatis Jr. after getting ahead of him 1-2, and then Luis Arraez dropped down a bunt single to set the stage for Machado. Peterson now has an ugly 4.86 ER since August 1st and is scheduled for a tough meeting with the Cubs up next.

On the plus side for fantasy managers, Peterson racked up eight strikeouts on the night while issuing only one base on balls. After being staked to an early 4-0 lead, Peterson kept the Phillies’ offense at bay until Otto Kemp’s two-run blast in the fourth inning. They added another on an RBI double by Bryce Harper in the fifth inning. The 30-year-old southpaw got a whopping 19 swings and misses on 86 pitches in the ballgame — 10 of them on his curveball — while posting a strong CSW of 35 percent. He’ll attempt to get back in the win column as he totes a 3.77 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and a 148/60 K/BB ratio (162 1/3 innings) into Thursday’s tilt against the Padres.

Peterson cruised through the first two innings as his lineup built up a big lead. Yet, he ran into trouble in both the third and fourth as the Reds put four runs on the board. Then it felt like he got over the hump and was ready to pitch deeply into this game when he began the sixth inning with just 70 pitches. Somehow, it took him 21 pitches to face three batters and he only retired one before being pulled. He didn’t have good feel for any of his pitches really as too many sinkers bled over the heart of the plate and got hammered while his breaking balls were often noncompetitive. This was his fourth clunker in his last six starts which has brought a 2.83 ERA up to a 3.72 ERA. He’ll have a stiff test next week as the Mets head to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies.

Peterson struggled out of the gate against the Marlins, giving up five runs on five hits and a walk to open the game in the first inning. After a clean second inning two walks and three hits brought another pair of runs in to score before Peterson was relieved with no outs and the bases loaded. The 29-year-old left-hander will look for better results when he takes a 3.55 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and a 136/58 K/BB ratio across 152 innings into a start against the Reds in Cincinnati next Saturday.

Peterson had a shutout going until the sixth, when he gave up a two-run single to Sean Murphy after carelessly walking Nacho Alvarez Jr. That ended his day at 98 pitches. He had 20 whiffs, 10 of them coming on the 22 sliders he threw, and not one of his 40 breaking balls produced a hard-hit ball. This would have been a gem if he didn’t lose the strike zone at the end. He’ll face the Marlins next.

Peterson allowed just four hits in a big rebound outing after giving up six runs to the Braves last time out and four runs to the Guardians before that. It’s his first 10-strikeout game of the year. He’s had exactly one of those every season since making his major league debut in 2020. He figures to face the Braves again on Sunday.

Spotted a six-run lead, Peterson could not escape a fourth inning that spun out of control after he walked the eighth and ninth batters in the Braves’ order. He missed to his arm side all game long and was visibly frustrated on the mound as he let the Mets’ big lead evaporate, a trend that’s become all too normal lately. He’s scheduled to make a two-start week next with road games against the Nationals and Braves again.

Peterson had allowed two runs or fewer in five straight starts. He generated 15 missed swings and had a 33% CSW today, but he gave up homers to David Fry and Angel Martínez. They were just the eighth and ninth homers he’s allowed in 133 innings this season. He’d given up just two previously in 11 starts at Citi Field. Peterson will face the Braves next week.

Peterson seemed to get stronger as this game went along. The Giants scratched across two runs in the second inning and then only put three more runners on base over Peterson’s final four innings. It was his fifth consecutive start working at least six innings and his 14th time doing so this season as he’s grown into a bonafide workhorse for the Mets. He’ll take a 2.83 ERA into his next start against the Guardians at home.

Peterson had to work around a lot of traffic to limit the Giants to just the lone run, as he gave up eight hits and also issues three free passes. Still, he kept San Francisco completely off the board outside of a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning off that bat of Jung Hoo Lee. Peterson now has an ERA of 2.83 and a record of 7-4, with a K/BB of 101/41 for good measure. He gets the Giants again next weekend.

Peterson gave up four hits, walked one and struck out four. The 29-year-old left-hander continues to enjoy a breakout season. Peterson lowered his ERA to 2.90 on the year with another exceptional outing. He has a 97/38 K/BB ratio in 115 innings this year. Peterson is lined up to face the Giants on the road next weekend.

He’s taking the place of Giants’ left-hander Robbie Ray who will start in the Giants’ first-half finale on Sunday and wouldn’t be available to pitch in the All-Staar Game. Peterson is definitely worthy of the honor — registering a 3.06 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and an 93/37 K/BB ratio across 109 innings in 18 starts for the Mets in the first half. It’s the first All-Star selection for the 29-year-old southpaw.

Peterson deserved better. He blanked the Orioles over his first seven frames, but he allowed a runner to reach in the eighth, and Gunnar Henderson hit a pinch-hit homer off Ryne Stanek to prevent him — and the Mets — from getting a win. Peterson allowed just five hits in the contest without issuing a walk, and he struck out six. He’ll take an excellent 3.06 ERA into the All-Star break, and he’ll likely start one of the first games after that mini vacation.

Peterson, who was coming off consecutive losses in which he gave up five runs apiece, got the win tonight, moving him to 6-4 with a 3.18 ERA. Peterson is an excellent groundball pitcher, but this is the fourth straight outing in which he’s walked three batters and struck out no more than five. He had a 71/25 K/BB ratio over 79 2/3 innings in his first 13 starts. In his last four, he has a 16/12 K/BB and a 5.64 ERA in 22 1/3 innings. He’ll face the Orioles next week.

The Pirates were all over Peterson in this one. He got through the first inning unscathed, but they sent nine men to the plate in the second and scored four runs. Of the eight balls they put in play, seven were hit harder than 100 mph and almost none were hit on the ground. In fact, Peterson was a bit lucky to leave that inning with only the four runs allowed. He couldn’t locate any of his pitches and looked much more like the Peterson we saw early in his career rather than the one who’s had an ERA under three over the last calendar year. His next start is scheduled to come at home against the red-hot Brewers.

Peterson struck out four batters on the evening while issuing three free passes. The 29-year-old southpaw kept the Phillies’ offense off the scoreboard through his first three innings of work, but they broke through with five runs in the fourth inning including a solo blast by Kyle Schwarber and a three-run homer by Edmundo Sosa. Peterson got eight whiffs on 72 pitches on the evening, registering a CSW of 25 percent. Even with this rough outing, Peterson still sports a terrific 2.98 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a 78/31 K/BB ratio across 90 2/3 innings through his first 15 starts on the season. He’ll look to get back on track when he squares off against the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Friday.
