This jives with recent reporting from The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, who suggested that the Red Sox could double down on pitching upgrades after losing out on Alex Bregman. We already know that the Red Sox have been linked to Freddy Peralta, Joe Ryan, and Cole Ragans since the offseason began. Bradford says that the names “floated as targets are no doubt” top-of-the-rotation arms. We’ll see if this amounts to anything.

Peralta is only set to make $8 million next season, so the Brewers are in no rush to move him; however, they seem unlikely to re-sign him in free agency after next season, so perhaps the best move is to trade him now for peak value. As Rosenthal notes, “Any team that acquires Peralta can recoup one prospect by making him a qualifying offer and receiving a likely Competitive Balance Round A pick in the low 30s in 2027.” Peralta will be a name to watch over the next few weeks.

It had earlier been reported that the Brewers were planning to keep Peralta after picking up his $8 million option for 2026. As Rosenthal notes, the Brewers are not dead set on trading Peralta, but if they get a strong enough offer, “they believe the veteran presence of Woodruff and their numerous other rotation options still could leave them in position to contend in the NL Central.” Peralta, who is 29 years old, would bring back a considerable return based on his low salary. If he were to be traded, the Brewers’ rotation would be led by Brandon Woodruff, Jacob Misiorowski, and Quinn Priester, with two of Robert Gasser, Chad Patrick, Logan Henderson, and Tobias Myers rounding it out. Perhaps the Brewers would bring back another starter in a trade, like trading Peralta to the Red Sox for Brayan Bello and others.

There have been plenty of trade rumors swirling around Peralta, but the 29-year-old is signed for just $8 million next year, which is a major bargain. There is a chance the Brewers could look to trade him in the middle of the season if they are unable to contend, but, for now, it appears unlikely that Peralta will be on the move.

McCalvy adds that Brandon Woodruff has declined his portion of a mutual option for next season and will become a free agent while the club also declined their half of Danny Jansen’s mutual option for 2026. No surprises here. Peralta has been the subject of trade rumors since Milwaukee was bounced from the playoffs in the NLCS by the eventual World Series champion Dodgers. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Woodruff return on a new deal, but he should have plenty of interest on the open market.

Peralta’s $8 million club option for 2026 will undoubtedly be exercised, but he’s set to hit free agency next offseason and stands as one of Milwaukee’s most valuable trade chips. The Brewers boast considerable rotation depth heading into next year following the emergence of top prospect Jacob Misiorowski and rookies Quinn Priester and Chad Patrick. The 29-year-old ace has topped 30 starts in three straight seasons since 2023 and would represent a major rotation upgrade for any contender.

Peralta fell behind in the early stages of the pivotal contest when he surrendered a game-tying solo homer to Teoscar Hernández and a go-ahead double to Andy Pages in the second inning. The 29-year-old ace nearly made it through six frames without any further damage, but Max Muncy connected for a solo homer on a full-count offering with two outs in the frame. There’s a chance he’ll get the ball again in the best-of-seven series if Milwaukee turns things around after dropping the first two games at home.

Peralta coughed up a three-run homer to Ian Happ with two outs in the opening frame, which wound up being more than enough run support for the Cubs as Matthew Boyd and four relievers combined on a three-hit shutout. The 29-year-old ace’s clunker forces a winner-take-all Game 5 this weekend in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee will push a considerable amount of chips to the center of the table by having Peralta take the ball for Game 4 after limiting Chicago to two runs over 5 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts in a Game 1 victory. It would likely be an all-hands-on-deck situation for a decisive Game 5, if the Brewers are unable to close out the series on Thursday evening.

Peralta had been 0-1 with a 4.00 ERA in three starts and three relief appearances in five postseason series dating back to 2018. He cruised to the win today after getting nine runs of support in the first two innings. He’ll be able to come back for Game 4 on four days’ rest if the series if the Brewers want to play it that way (and if the series is still going on).

Just a little 44-pitch tuneup for Peralta ahead of his expected NLDS Game 1 start on Saturday. He finishes the season leading the majors in wins by two with 17. He’s fourth with a 2.70 ERA and sixth with 204 strikeouts. Most likely, he’ll finish third in the NL Cy Young balloting behind Paul Skenes and Cristopher Sánchez.

He allowed four hits, struck out six, and issued one walk. Peralta came up short in his bid to win his 18th game of the season, but it had more to do with his offense than anything he did Monday. The 29-year-old could start Sunday’s game against the Reds, but that game has zero meaning for Milwaukee, so it’s far from a guarantee. Assuming he’s rested, Peralta finishes an excellent campaign with a 2.66 ERA, 201/66 K/BB and 1.08 WHIP over 174 2/3 innings. Whether he pitches Sunday or not, Peralta will all-but-assuredly get the ball in Game 1 of the NLDS; potentially against the Padres.

The 29-year-old right-hander piled up 10 strikeouts on the night while issuing two walks. The lone tally against him came on a solo home run off the bat of Denzer Guzman in the fifth inning. Peralta generated a whopping 20 swings and misses on 94 pitches on the night — 12 of them on his fastball — while posting an elite CSW of 35 percent. Peralta will certainly draw votes for the National League Cy Young award this season, posting a 17-6 record, 2.65 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and a 195/65 K/BB ratio over 169 2/3 innings through his first 31 starts. He’ll do battle against the Cardinals his next time out in St. Louis on Sunday.

Peralta, whose velocity was down 1-1.5 mph today, had gone five straight starts without allowing a run. He fanned nine, but he gave up two homers to Jake Burger and he actually balked in a run with Burger in the plate in the third. It’s his first loss since July 30 and second since June 3. The Brewers are off Thursday and Monday, so they might want to give Peralta some extra rest before sending him back out next week against the Angels or Cardinals.

The 29-year-old right-hander punched out eight batters on the day while issuing three walks. The only real threat against him came in fourth inning as the Phillies started the frame with a walk and a single — then loaded the bases with a two-out walk. Peralta dug in and struck out Alec Bohm to get out of trouble. With this outing, Peralta extends his scoreless inning streak to 29 dating back to August 5. He got 14 whiffs on 92 pitches on the day, registering a CSW of 30 percent. For the season, he now boasts an outstanding 2.50 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and a 176/61 K/BB ratio over 158 2/3 innings in his 29 starts. He’ll take on the Rangers his next time out in Texas on Tuesday.

Peralta gave up one hit, walked one and struck out eight. The 29-year-old right-hander hasn’t allowed a run over his last four starts, a streak that spans 23 innings. Peralta has a 2.58 ERA and 168/58 K/BB ratio in 153 2/3 innings this year. He’s lined up to face the Phillies at home next week.

The Brewers could have used some more length from Peralta tonight, but he walked four and threw 96 pitches in five innings. Since the Brewers had used all of their high leverage guys two of the last three days, it fell to Grant Anderson and Carlos Rodriguez to try to get the final 12 outs tonight and they combined to allowed seven runs — four earned — in the 7-1 loss. Peralta has pitched 17 scoreless innings in his last three starts, taking his ERA down to 2.68. He’ll face the D-backs next.

Abner Uribe, Jared Koenig and Grant Anderson finished the two-hit shutout. Peralta, who also tossed six scoreless innings last time out against the Pirates, becomes the first pitched with 15 wins this year, placing him two ahead of Garrett Crochet and Max Fried. He’s probably the only pitcher with a realistic chance of reaching 20 wins, which was last accomplished by Spencer Strider in 2022. Peralta figures to make his next start Saturday or Sunday against the Giants.

In a battle of two of the better pitchers in the National League, Peralta easily outdueled Paul Skenes to pick up his 14th win of the season. The right-hander gave up just three hits, and he issued one walk in yet another impressive outing for the 29-year-old. The Brewers may never lose again, and Peralta will have a chance to go for his 15th win when he faces off against the Cubs on Monday.

The 29-year-old right-hander piled up seven strikeouts on the evening while issuing three free passes. The lone tally against him came on a solo shot off the bat of Eli White in the fourth inning. Peralta generated a whopping 18 swings and misses on 108 pitches on the night — seven each on his fastball and changeup — while posting a CSW of 28 percent. Now 13-5 on the season, he’ll look to keep the good times rolling as he totes a 3.03 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a 141/49 K/BB ratio (130 2/3 innings) into Monday’s matchup against the Pirates.

Peralta matched his season high with four walks in his shortest start of the year. He still had 12 whiffs and a 31% CSW, and he wasn’t hit overly hard aside from Michael Busch’s solo homer, so it wasn’t a total disaster. He’ll likely rebound against the Braves next week.

The 29-year-old right-hander scattered five hits and a pair of walks on the afternoon. The lone blemish against him came on a solo blast off the bat of Kyle Stowers in the third inning. Peralta got a whopping 17 swings and misses on 98 pitches on the day — seven of them on his curveball — while registering a strong CSW of 34 percent. Still 12-4 on the season, he’ll carry an impressive 2.81 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 131/42 K/BB ratio (121 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Cubs.

Peralta walked three and struck out four while allowing five hits. Two of those runs came on a Shohei Ohtani homer, and outside of that, it was a solid — if unspectacular — outing for the 29-year-old. Peralta now has 12 wins on the season against four losses, and even after giving up a four-spot, his ERA is a strong 2.85 in 2025. He’s an absolute must-start for next weekend against the Marlins.

Peralta took a no-hitter into the sixth and almost got through seven scoreless, but Daylen Lile was able to drop a soft liner in front of Isaac Collins to plate the Nationals’ lone run and end Peralta’s outing. Peralta, who made the NL All-Star team but won’t pitch in the game, will take a 2.66 ERA into the second half. He’ll probably next work Saturday against the Dodgers.

Peralta struck out seven and walked one in what turned out to be a pretty easy outing after the Brewers erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the first. He’s now won five straight starts, which isn’t easy to do these days, and he’s only two off his career high for victories from 2023. The NL All-Star is likely to start again Sunday against the Nationals.

Nick Mears and DL Hall finished the two-hitter. Peralta struck out six and walked one. Eight of the 14 balls in play against him were hard hit, but those produced just one single, a 112-mph laser off the bat of Pete Alonso. The only other hit came on a soft grounder from Luis Torrens. Peralta improved to 9-4 with a 2.91 ERA, and he’s a candidate to make the NL All-Star team for the second time in his career. He’ll face the Dodgers next week.

Peralta racked up eight strikeouts on the night and didn’t walk a batter. He shut the Pirates out through the first five innings, but returned for the sixth where he allowed a pair of singles and a three-run blast to Nick Gonzales before turning the ball over to the bullpen. The 29-year-old hurler got 14 whiffs on 94 pitches on the night — six of them on his fastball — while registering a CSW of 28 percent. Now 8-4 on the season, he’ll bring a 2.90 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 98/34 K/BB ratio (93 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Mets in New York.

Peralta wasn’t sharp during Thursday afternoon’s matinee at Wrigley Field, but still managed to outperform his Chicago counterpart Jameson Taillon to pick up his seventh win of the year. He gave up only two hits, but both wound up leaving the yard courtesy of burgeoning star Pete Crow-Armstrong and veteran Dansby Swanson. He finished with six strikeouts and also issued a pair of walks. He’ll carry a solid 2.76 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 90/34 K/BB ratio across 88 innings (16 starts) into a home tilt on Tuesday against the division-rival Pirates.
