Peralta struck out six and walked three, lowering his ERA to 3.52 for the season. His four-seamer is down a full mph from last year, and his slider was being hit much harder than usual entering Thursday. It hasn’t mattered much as he continues to perform as a solid fantasy starting pitcher, though with a tick less strikeout upside than we’re used to. He has a tricky spot next time out against the Rockies in Coors.

There’s a hump that Peralta just can’t get over at the moment. Just like in many of his other starts this season, he cruised early and then ran into trouble during the fifth and sixth innings. It wasn’t much hard contact – a swinging bunt, some walks, and ball that caromed off the second base bag – but he was pulled with two outs in the sixth after having given up the lead. His fastball and changeup were sharp, combining for 14 of his 16 total swing-and-misses. We’re just still looking for some consistency from his slider. His next start is scheduled to come against the Nationals.

Peralta led the NL with 17 wins for the Brewers last season, but he’s definitely not seeing that kind of support right now, either offensively or from his bullpen. Since winning on Opening Day, he’s taken two losses and two no-decisions while giving up eight runs, six of which scored after the left the game. Today, he was pulled with two outs and two on in the sixth and Brooks Raley immediately gave up a three-run homer to Carson Kelly. 11 days ago, he left a game with a bases loaded and two outs in the fifth and all of the runners came around to score. It the relievers had stranded those five runners, Peralta’s ERA would be 2.36, instead of 4.05. Peralta should have a better outing next week at home against the Rockies.

Peralta fanned six in his best start to date this year. Alas, Nick Kurtz’s solo shot in the third accounted for all of the scoring in this one. Peralta will make his next start against the Cubs in Wrigley.

ABS ruined Peralta’s day. The Mets’ Opening Day starter struck out Jorge Barrosa and Ketel Marte to start the fifth, but he was pulled after a single, a walk and a HBP loaded the bases. Huascar Brazoban took over against Adrian Del Castillo and initially struck out him out on his fifth pitch of the at-bat, only to have it overturned for being barely inside. Del Castillo singled on the next pitch and Nolan Arenado doubled afterwards. Three starts into his season, Peralta is 1-0 with a 4.80 ERA. His velocity was down a little day, but that was probably a product of it being a chilly day in New York. He still generated 14 whiffs and a 38% CSW. He’ll face the Athletics next.

The one run on Peralta’s ledger came after he left the game when Huascar Brazobán allowed an inherited runner to score with two outs in the sixth inning. Regardless, Peralta was sharp here. The only trouble he ran into came in the fifth inning when he wriggled out of a jam after putting runners on second and third with no outs. He threw far more changeups in this start against the Cardinals left-handed heavy lineup compared to Opening Day when he featured his slider more. He played that pitch off his fastball beautifully and they combined to force 13 of his 15 swings-and-misses. His next start is scheduled to come at home against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Despite getting five runs to work with in the first, Peralta nearly went without a win today. He took a 6-3 lead into the fifth, when he gave up a single and an RBI double to open the inning. One more batter reaching probably would have gotten him lifted, but he retired Oneil Cruz, Brandon Lowe (who had homered off him twice) and Bryan Reynolds in order to escape. Peralta finished up with a 34% CSW. His velocity was down a bit early on, but it got better as the outing went along. Peralta will make his next start Wednesday against the Cardinals.

The 29-year-old right-hander punched out five batters on the evening while issuing only one base on balls. The Astros scratched out a run against him in the opening inning as Taylor Trammell worked a leadoff walk, stole second base and scored on an RBI single by Yordan Alvarez. Peralta then locked in and retired the final 10 hitters that he faced. He got 11 whiffs on 56 pitches on the evening, posting a strong CSW of 36 percent. He has been strong in Grapefruit League play, posting a 2.70 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and a 12/2 K/BB ratio over 10 innings in his three starts.

Both runs came in the first. Peralta retired the first two batters he faced but then gave up a triple, two singles and a walk before retiring Duke Ellis to end the inning. Peralta struck out four with a solid 36% CSW today. He has a 3.00 ERA and a 7/1 K/BB through six innings.

Peralta had an easy day despite his velocity being down 2-3 mph from last year. He’d surely be further along now if hadn’t decided to skip the World Baseball Classic, but it seemed like the smart move as he enters his walk year while joining a new franchise.

The Mets didn’t have an obvious big hole in their rotation, so the upgrade they wanted wasn’t going to come cheap. This qualifies, however, and the Mets didn’t have to sacrifice from the major league team to make it happen. Peralta is under control for just one more season, but he’s a bargain at $8 million and the Mets should have a chance to retain him for the long haul. The 29-year-old is coming off his best season to date, finishing fifth in the NL Cy Young balloting with a 17-6 record and a 2.70 ERA. Dogged by durability issues earlier in his career, he’s avoided the IL and made 95 starts the last three years. He’ll probably regress somewhat from his 2025 performance, but he’s a legitimate Opening Day starter for a team that needed one.

The Mets will also get Tobias Myers, The Athletic’s Will Sammon confirms. Coming off his fifth place finish in the NL Cy Young balloting, Peralta will join Nolan McLean, David Peterson, Clay Holmes and likely either Kodai Senga or Sean Manaea in the Mets rotation. Sproat could be a candidate to go right into Milwaukee’s rotation, though it seems more likely that he’ll open up in Triple-A. Williams is probably a year away, but he could be a starting shortstop or center fielder for the Brewers in 2027. The Mets will have Peralta for $8 million this year before he becomes eligible for free agency next winter.

Sherman says the Brewers have asked for both Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams, and it sounds like the Mets may have relented following the addition of Myers to the proposed deal.

Michael Marino reported earlier than the Brewers were asking for top prospects Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams in return for Peralta, but maybe they’ll be willing to settle for one of those two and another prospect the Mets don’t value as highly. The Yankees are also known to be among those interested in Peralta.

Would the Brewers want Jasson Domínguez, who could be available with Cody Bellinger back in New York? The Yankees also have major league starting pitching to part with in the form of Luis Gil, Will Warren or even the newly acquired Ryan Weathers. If the Brewers do decide to pull the trigger and deal their ace, this does seem like the most obvious trade fit.

Marino reported that “Jonah Tong’s name briefly came up in talks with the Brewers about Freddy Peralta before the Mets quickly ended that discussion.” The Mets then rejected a follow-up offer that was Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams for Peralta. Given that Peralta is a free agent at the end of the upcoming season, it makes sense that the Mets may not want to deal one of their top prospect who could have multiple years of value; however, it feels likely that some team will be willing to do that to acquire Peralta.

This jives with recent reporting from The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, who suggested that the Red Sox could double down on pitching upgrades after losing out on Alex Bregman. We already know that the Red Sox have been linked to Freddy Peralta, Joe Ryan, and Cole Ragans since the offseason began. Bradford says that the names “floated as targets are no doubt” top-of-the-rotation arms. We’ll see if this amounts to anything.

Peralta is only set to make $8 million next season, so the Brewers are in no rush to move him; however, they seem unlikely to re-sign him in free agency after next season, so perhaps the best move is to trade him now for peak value. As Rosenthal notes, “Any team that acquires Peralta can recoup one prospect by making him a qualifying offer and receiving a likely Competitive Balance Round A pick in the low 30s in 2027.” Peralta will be a name to watch over the next few weeks.

It had earlier been reported that the Brewers were planning to keep Peralta after picking up his $8 million option for 2026. As Rosenthal notes, the Brewers are not dead set on trading Peralta, but if they get a strong enough offer, “they believe the veteran presence of Woodruff and their numerous other rotation options still could leave them in position to contend in the NL Central.” Peralta, who is 29 years old, would bring back a considerable return based on his low salary. If he were to be traded, the Brewers’ rotation would be led by Brandon Woodruff, Jacob Misiorowski, and Quinn Priester, with two of Robert Gasser, Chad Patrick, Logan Henderson, and Tobias Myers rounding it out. Perhaps the Brewers would bring back another starter in a trade, like trading Peralta to the Red Sox for Brayan Bello and others.

There have been plenty of trade rumors swirling around Peralta, but the 29-year-old is signed for just $8 million next year, which is a major bargain. There is a chance the Brewers could look to trade him in the middle of the season if they are unable to contend, but, for now, it appears unlikely that Peralta will be on the move.

McCalvy adds that Brandon Woodruff has declined his portion of a mutual option for next season and will become a free agent while the club also declined their half of Danny Jansen’s mutual option for 2026. No surprises here. Peralta has been the subject of trade rumors since Milwaukee was bounced from the playoffs in the NLCS by the eventual World Series champion Dodgers. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Woodruff return on a new deal, but he should have plenty of interest on the open market.

Peralta’s $8 million club option for 2026 will undoubtedly be exercised, but he’s set to hit free agency next offseason and stands as one of Milwaukee’s most valuable trade chips. The Brewers boast considerable rotation depth heading into next year following the emergence of top prospect Jacob Misiorowski and rookies Quinn Priester and Chad Patrick. The 29-year-old ace has topped 30 starts in three straight seasons since 2023 and would represent a major rotation upgrade for any contender.

Peralta fell behind in the early stages of the pivotal contest when he surrendered a game-tying solo homer to Teoscar Hernández and a go-ahead double to Andy Pages in the second inning. The 29-year-old ace nearly made it through six frames without any further damage, but Max Muncy connected for a solo homer on a full-count offering with two outs in the frame. There’s a chance he’ll get the ball again in the best-of-seven series if Milwaukee turns things around after dropping the first two games at home.

Peralta coughed up a three-run homer to Ian Happ with two outs in the opening frame, which wound up being more than enough run support for the Cubs as Matthew Boyd and four relievers combined on a three-hit shutout. The 29-year-old ace’s clunker forces a winner-take-all Game 5 this weekend in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee will push a considerable amount of chips to the center of the table by having Peralta take the ball for Game 4 after limiting Chicago to two runs over 5 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts in a Game 1 victory. It would likely be an all-hands-on-deck situation for a decisive Game 5, if the Brewers are unable to close out the series on Thursday evening.

Peralta had been 0-1 with a 4.00 ERA in three starts and three relief appearances in five postseason series dating back to 2018. He cruised to the win today after getting nine runs of support in the first two innings. He’ll be able to come back for Game 4 on four days’ rest if the series if the Brewers want to play it that way (and if the series is still going on).

Just a little 44-pitch tuneup for Peralta ahead of his expected NLDS Game 1 start on Saturday. He finishes the season leading the majors in wins by two with 17. He’s fourth with a 2.70 ERA and sixth with 204 strikeouts. Most likely, he’ll finish third in the NL Cy Young balloting behind Paul Skenes and Cristopher Sánchez.
