Priester took over after a scoreless frame from opener Aaron Ashby and proceeded to keep the contest remained scoreless into the middle innings. The 25-year-old was the beneficiary of one of the more bizarre double plays in postseason history to end the fourth inning when Max Muncy’s 404-foot fly ball to left-center field came up a few inches short of a grand slam and resulted in mass confusion on the basepaths. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Curt Hogg, it was the first batted ball to travel over 350 feet and result in a ground-ball double play in the pitch tracking era.

Priester was awful from the get, as he gave up a solo homer to Michael Busch to begin his outing, and he was charged for three more runs — two of them after exiting. The 25-year-old was a solid option for Milwaukee for the majority of 2025, but this was ugly. Priester could be a starting option if the Brewers advance to the NLCS, but it’s far from a guarantee.

Priester gets the ball with a chance to propel Milwaukee into the NLCS where they would face either the Dodgers or Phillies. The 25-year-old right-hander, who didn’t end up pitching during the Brewers’ Game 2 win over Chicago, was outstanding in his Brewers debut during the regular season and will be making his first career playoff start on Wednesday evening at Wrigley Field.

Priester struck out four batters on the night while issuing one base on balls. He had allowed just one run through the first five innings — an RBI single by Spencer Steer in the fourth inning — but the wheels fell off a bit in the sixth. There, Priester allowed three straight hits to start the frame before turning the ball over to the bullpen. The 25-year-old righty got nine whiffs on 87 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 26 percent. He finishes a terrific regular season with a 13-3 record, 3.32 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a 132/50 K/BB ratio across 157 1/3 innings in 29 appearances (24 starts).

Chad Patrick draws the starting assignment for Wednesday’s series finale against the Padres out in San Diego with Priester getting a couple additional rest days. The 25-year-old rookie has certainly earned them, pitching to a brilliant 3.25 ERA across 152 1/3 innings over 28 appearances (23 starts) in his Brewers debut. He’ll be a key component of Milwaukee’s postseason rotation behind ace Freddy Peralta.

The 25-year-old right-hander allowed just three hits and two walks on the evening. He carried a perfect game into the fifth inning until Jo Adell drew a leadoff walk and Luis Rengifo followed with a two-run blast. That was the extent of the damage done against him. Priester got 16 swings and misses on 93 pitches on the night — eight of those on his slider — while posting a strong CSW of 35 percent. The Brewers have now won each of his last 19 starts. He’ll try to extend that streak to 20 — which would tie an MLB record — when he takes on the Padres in San Diego on Tuesday.

Priester gave up five hits, walked one and struck out five. The 24-year-old right-hander has won back-to-back starts as he improves to 13-2 on the season. Priester has a 3.25 ERA and 118 strikeouts in 146 2/3 innings this year. He’s lined up to face the Angels at home next week.

Priester fought through some early trouble to settle into this game beautifully and wind up sticking around for seven innings. The Pirates made a lot of contact over the first few innings and scratched two runs across by the end of the third. Priester then proceeded to retire 14 of the final 15 batters he faced in a dominant display. Pittsburgh just couldn’t square anything up as he moved his sinker, cutter, slider, and curveball around the zone. He’s scheduled to take on the Pirates next time out.

Mathews was arguably the most exciting pitching prospect in baseball at this juncture last season when he blazed through four level to reach the doorstep of the majors. A combination of injuries and control issues derailed his 2025 campaign, but he’s strung together a handful of solid starts since the beginning of August, putting himself in the conversation for a late-season cameo with the Cardinals. He remains a work in progress in the control department, but there’s enough strikeout upside to dream on for fantasy purposes.

Priester was excellent on Saturday, scattering three hits while holding the Blue Jays scoreless through five innings until two hits, an error, and a sacrifice fly put a run on the board for Toronto in the sixth. Priester would be done after six frames at 82 pitches with three strikeouts. The 24-year-old right-hander will take a 3.28 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and a 107/45 K/BB ratio across 134 1/3 innings into a start against the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Friday.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy told reporters Priester will not require a trip to the injured list but will need a few extra days off. The 24-year-old rookie is on track to take the ball on Saturday against the Blue Jays. It’ll be Aaron Ashby and newly signed veteran Erick Fedde making a bulk relief appearance on Wednesday night in his place.

Priester was unable to stick around long enough to collect a win as he handed out a season-high five free passes and failed to complete six frames for the third consecutive start. The 24-year-old rookie may be hitting the metaphorical wall at this stage of the season, but he’ll have an opportunity to rebound on Tuesday with a favorable home matchup against the Diamondbacks.

Priester had a shutout going until the fifth, when Ke’Bryan Hayes and Spencer Steer homered. He’s given up two homers in back-to-back starts, though unlike last time out against the Mets, it didn’t hurt his ERA this time. He remained 11-2 with a 3.48 ERA, and he’ll likely make his next start in the finale of next week’s five-game series against the Cubs.

Priester gave up 10 hits, walked one and struck out two. The 24-year-old right-hander had allowed two runs or less in six of his last seven starts, but was hit hard by the Mets on Sunday. Priester has a 3.49 ERA and 95/39 K/BB ratio in 118 2/3 innings. He’s lined up to face the Reds on the road next weekend.

Mathews allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out nine. He dominated with his changeup, posting a 42 percent whiff rate and a 34 percent CSW. Mathews had battled some shoulder soreness earlier in the summer and experienced a rough stretch upon his return; however, he appears to be settling in. The 24-year-old has a 3.63 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, and 72/50 K/BB ratio in 62 innings in Triple-A. If he keeps his command in order, he might get some MLB starts in September.

The Brewers have won his last 12 outings, with Priester getting no-decisions the only two times he didn’t pitch effectively. He gave up a homer to Jurickson Profar tonight, but he wound up with 11 groundouts and four strikeouts. He’ll likely face the Mets next time out on Sunday. Unfortunately, that means he’ll miss out on next week’s series against the Pirates to again show them what they’re missing.

The 24-year-old right-hander struck out three batters on the evening while issuing a pair of free passes. The Cubs scratched out a run against him in the second inning on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Dansby Swanson. Priester then served up a solo homer to Nico Hoerner in the sixth inning. Overall, he got 11 swings and misses on 86 pitches on the night — five of those on his slider — while registering a CSW of 27 percent. Priester now sits at 10-2 on the season with a terrific 3.27 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and an 89/36 K/BB ratio over 107 1/3 innings through his first 20 appearances (15 starts). He’ll attempt to keep the good times rolling when he squares off against the Braves in Atlanta on Monday.

Priester had one win two months into the season. He picked up his second in a bulk role on May 30 and he’s just kept going from there; he’s 8-0 with a 2.53 ERA in his last 10 outings. It’s not dominant stuff, but he’s keeping the ball on the ground in front of a strong defense and his command seems to be getting better by the outing. He’ll probably keep helping in mixed leagues, though next week’s matchup against the Cubs is a tougher one.

He struck out seven but also walked five and threw only 41 of his 84 pitches for strikes. The left-hander had just a 39 percent zone rate on his four-seam fastball, but his slider was tremendous on the day, posting a 58 percent whiff rate on its own. It’s been a rough summer for the 24-year-old, but Mathews has clear upside if he can just continue to improve his command. He may get a few MLB starts to end the season if the Cardinals fall out of the playoff race, but he’ll likely need to show more in order for that to happen.

Priester’s breakout season continues, and if people haven’t taken him seriously yet, now’s the time. He allowed just three hits, and he didn’t issue a walk while reaching double-digit strikeouts for the second time in 2025. It’s worth noting that Priester was a Top 50 prospect at one point, but to say that he’s exceeded expectations in 2025 are a few so-so seasons in the minors — and majors — is quite the understatement. He’ll get to pitch in Seattle on Wednesday versus the Mariners.

DL Hall started as an opener for the Brewers and managed to go three innings while allowing only one run. Priester gave up four hits, walked two and struck out five once he entered the game. The 24-year-old right-hander has now won six games in his last eight appearances. Priester has a 3.55 ERA and 70/32 K/BB ratio in 88 2/3 innings this year. He won’t pitch again before the All-Star break.

Priester gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out two. The 24-year-old right-hander may have picked the wrong time for a subpar start with Brandon Woodruff’s return to the rotation seemingly imminent. Priester followed up his 11-strikeout performance against the Rockies with a clunker against the Marlins. He’ll take a 3.59 ERA into his start against the Dodgers at home next week if he’s still with the Brewers.

Aaron Ashby and DL Hall finished the shutout. Michael Toglia had the lone hit, a clean single between the first and second basemen in the fifth. The Rockies had just five hard-hit balls in all: three from Brenton Doyle and two from Toglia. Priester, who topped his previous high in strikeouts by three, wound up with 20 whiffs, including 16 on the 37 breaking balls he threw. It’s the first time in 26 big-league starts that he’s completed seven innings. He’s gone 5-0 with a 2.16 ERA in his last six outings, putting him at 6-2 with a 2.87 ERA overall. He makes for an intriguing play in mixed leagues next week against the Marlins.

Mathews also walked six and struck out one while throwing only 22 of his 55 pitches for strikes. There’s no word on if the 24-year-old was injured, but he did battle shoulder soreness earlier in the season, so this kind of outing is particularly concerning.

Priester gave up nine hits, walked none and struck out four. Priester had completed at least five innings in each of his last eight starts, so this is a bit of a rough outing for him. He has a 3.68 ERA and 50/26 K/BB ratio in 71 innings this year. Priester has a chance to rebound in a plus matchup against the Rockies at home next weekend.

Mathews allowed one hit and two walks while striking out six. He missed over a month while battling shoulder soreness, but he has looked good in his three starts since returning, posting a 17/6 K/BB ratio and 1.38 ERA in 13 innings. Of course, 13 innings over three starts is not great length, so he will need to continue to build up his pitch count before he’s a potential name for the Cardinals’ rotation.

Priester has been pitching for his rotation spot every time he’s taken the mound lately, but with wins in his last four appearances and Aaron Civale gone to Chicago, the matter seems to be settled for now. He’s allowed just six runs over 29 innings in his last five appearances, three of which were starts. (The other two saw him enter in the fourth after DL Hall worked the first three innings.) His peripherals still aren’t great, but they’re getting better; he’s fanned 10 and walked none in his last two starts after amassing a 36/26 K/BB in his first 55 2/3 innings. Priester will face the Twins next weekend.
